Steven,
I was really surprised at how much a bigger sound Khorns yield over LaScalas + sub. Didn't think Khorns would or should make enough difference to notice. They just load the room better than LaScalas + sub. LaScalas are no slouch at all, i'm running a pair now and sometimes use a sub with them and am delighted with the sound. Eight years ago had to get rid of Khorns when i moved into a different house. If you've got the corners, you will love the Khorns. The sound made me smile.
Nico, interesting point.
Though i prefer the sound of a tractrix midhorn alternative, this may be exactly why Klipsch has retained the K401 in the current manufacture Khorns and LaScalas.
Carl,
yeh. i think it would sound pretty good, too.
I've got the pre-kit unbuilt, but keep pushing that little project out farther on the horizon. Bottlehead says the batteries on the pre will give about 200 hours of service. not bad, really.
Thought this was interesting. These folks take quality very seriously. Also Bottlehead has as part of their offerings some entry level kits designed to a price point. I'd take it as a compliment the to the TPA3122 chip turning out 4wpc. Looks like it would be a fun project.

I had a Cary Rocket 88 and it wasn't my cup of tea, i prefer the sound of the Dyna Mark III.
In terms of build and such, it was built like a tank. very solid and beautiful piece of gear.
The Mark IV does look cool, i've thought that myself for some time.
However, i think the Mark III would be better for resale having a (IMO) larger fan base.
I used to have a pair of Will Vincent Mark III's and sorry i ever sold them.
