Islander
Happy Canada Day! Listening to CBC Radio One broadcasting live from the festivities on Parliament Hill. picky
Well Happy Canada Day. Is it really called Happy Canada Day ? Nice looking flag, always liked the red and white with the Maple leaf. Yes, dtel, it's "Canada Day". Their Independence Day is July 1st while ours is July 4th. Detroit and Windsor used to hold a joint celebration called the "International Freedom Festival" for many years and both cities would share the cost of the fireworks display shot from three barges on the Detroit River which separates both cities (and countries). At one time it was the largest annual fireworks display in North America. However, since times have gotten more difficult, I believe the joint festival has sort of gone by the wayside. Both countries still enjoy the fireworks, but I believe it is now funded by large businesses such as Target rather than civic or governmental resources. There has always been a very close relationship between the Michigan and Ontario residents. We consider Canadians our brothers and sisters and we depend on one another for many things. -Glenn
