goldenear57
I knew that would get your attention! [] Anyway, I am looking for a simple rack to put my components in that can help hide them when not in use. Prefer black. I have an intergrated amp, tuner, cd player and perhaps the future a turntable. Show me what you have and where you got it. Thanks!
Groomlakearea51
You can make one for about $100 using a sheet of 3/4" birch plywood, a sheet of luan for backing, and some wheels to roll it around on when you need to move it. The beauty of doing it yourself is that you can make the shelf heights correct for cooling, shelf depths, etc. Table saw, screws (or finishing nail gun), and some high quality semi-gloss (or satin) black paint ( I use "sparkling black", exterior grade, latex enamel from Ace Hardware; it looks like lacquer, can be rolled, and can be easily cleaned and every year or two, a fresh coat put on). The Dude
Check out my rack in my avatar, its 4 pieces of granite with 4 5/8 all thread, and pvc pipe in between as spacers cut to size. I am thinking of making another like this with 3/4" plywood or maybe some sacared purple heart wood i have to find a use for some of this but someday I will. The Dude
There are different variations of this, you could just use nuts and washers sandwiching the pieces of plywood which would make it easier to adjust. I even had some 1/2" thick glass but I couldn't get it cut like I wanted to plus it was all scratched up so I scraped it. I like how mapleshade uses some sort of brass adjuster nut but I don't know were to find anything like that. Good luck.

The Dude
Thanks, I just need some audio gear on it now[].
jhoak
Well it was a bit more than $100 because of using all oak and oak veneered plywood but it works for me.

jhoak
Nice Maggies!!! Thanks! They're part of a general "downsizing" as I get ready to go back to living in an apartment. I doubt that my Cornscalas and my neighbors would get along all that well. Anybody in the market for a really nice pair of Cornscalas? psg
I made mine using two 5x5' sheets of 1/2" baltic birch ($50). One sheet cut into thirds in both directions provided 9 shelves so that every single component gets its own shelf at whatever height I choose. I even had two shelves left over and used one to make a matching projector ceiling mount. You can just make out the rack (inset into the wall) on the right, but it still needs a molding trim around it.
Rudy81
Got this one on Craigslist. Don't know the manufacturer, but beleive it is a server rack. Needed a coat of paint and works like a champ. I built a sturdy base with heavy duty casters. I can move the rack at will fairly easily.
greg928gts
Couldn't believe it when I nabbed this one out of a local newspaper ad for $75. Greg
Rivernuggets
Bought this Ikea cabinet used on CL for $75. Has a simple lock which is great for toddlers or visiting small relatives. If needed, you can install a small fan in the back board to exchange air. I always listen with the doors open too keep components happy. This is a pic from online, too lazy to take one of ours.
