Where the heck is everybody? :-)

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I agree!! So let's make this a 3-way conversation:

Mike,

I like to play golf also. What's your handicap? Mine's a 10.

Shape,

Noticed from some of your other posts that you spent some time in Tejas. By the way, you have a be-u-tiful system!

Yeah... everybody is jealous of Wes's system. Smile.gif

I'm currently a 6 but will probably be a 5 when the new handicaps get posted at the end of the month. I try and get out about 6 times a month, and take 3 or 4 golf vacations a year. Why is it that all my hobbies (audio, corvettes and golf) are expensive? Biggrin.gif

Chris,

That's the difference between Massachusetts and Florida. I can play all year round. Plus I just got back from playing 9 rounds in Myrtle Beach. Biggrin.gif

Mike

Edit: Forgot to mention, you're on! Next time you're in the Orlando area, let me know. I play at a nice course called Metrowest every weekend. Come on down, and bring your sticks. Smile.gif

badbob,

Yea, lived in Texarkana for 5 years before the move to Michigan. Worked there as a DOD Civilian after completing a 2 yr. draft tour w/Army. Between night classes and work, never had much social time. I see you're just North of Irving, TX. Always wanted to see the Cowboys play, but never made it though. May move back there or to New Mexico after retirement.

Thanks for the comments on my system. I'm a big Klipsch Fan & have been truly blessed.

Do like the Lone Star State!

Wes

Mike,

How's everything? I'm still around, but if I were you, I'd beat it on over to AudiogoN where there's a pair of Welborne Labs Moondogs and a pair of Apollos.

BTW, I hope everythings coming up roses for your girlfriend also.

Klipsch out.

Mike,

Were ZR1's available as Convertibles? Just don't recall ever seeing one.

btw - still going through my old LP's. Have one from a late 70's group called Sea Level titled "On The Edge". Have you heard them? Think they only produced two LP's though.

I think that this area (as well as the board as a whole) will pick up in the fall, when all of the outdoor diversions are less of an option. Home audio is less of a priority when you are not home to enjoy it. I noticed this when I sold gear - the action picks up around the first of August, with students going back to school, straight through to the Holiday season. Mobile Homeless and Company, please come back!! Now that I have my HT set up, I'll need your advice to set up my 2 channel tube setup (once I can afford and find those Khorns)! We really do miss you around here!

Nice ride there Mike! Thank god I'm not a "gearhead" - my wallet cannot handle that hobby, when I already have too many expensive ways of enjoying myself. Concerts and Audio take up enough fundsSmile.gif

My "golf handicap" is that I don't really enjoy it that much - when I get the urge to play golf, I sit down until it goes away! Besides, the 19th hole is the only one worth playing anyway!! I would rather stay at home on the computer and drool all over Wes' system picsSmile.gif Call it "audio porn" - a setup that good should be illegal!!

On the Cowboys: I would like to see them play too - my Bears, that is!!

Have a good Memorial Day weekend.

Mike,

Sorry I didn't respond to your comments yesterday. I saw where you were the last person to post but when I went into the topic I never could see your comments. Anyway I forgot to mention that I just purchased a new (used; in great shape) set of Ping i3's that I have been dying to try. I'm on my way to the 'flog' in about 5 min.

Wes,

I've been here for about 15 yrs. Originally from Miss. I now tell everyone that Miss. is a nice place to VISIT! But it has come a looooong way. I do like it here in Texas.

ROCK ON!

Well,

I don't golf, but I do have my warmer month hobbies. I tour on my bike, a 1983 BMW R100RT 60th Anniversary Edition (one of 300 made). It is nearing its 100,000th mile, and still runs like new. There's just something about excellence in engineering and simplicity that I kinda like. So, if you see this bike flying past you on out-of-the-way highways, it could well be me on it!!

I also will hopefully get my old '72 Chevy pickup in good running condition this summer or early fall. It has 4-bolt main 350 in it with a turbo 350 tranny, but I intend to remove running gear and replace it with that out of a '73 Pontiac Gran Prix: Big Block 400, turbo-hydramatic 400 tranny, and positrac rear-end. I will retain original running gear in storage for posterity...but the better gas mileage and power of the Pontiac running gear is what I need right now! Current MPG with the 350 is just 9-10 mpg, but with the change to the Poncho parts, it will improve to 17 mpg on highway!! Big difference!! Those old Poncho Big Block 400's have lots of power, great longetivity, and with the 400 tranny, make a great change-over for the pick-up!!...adding gobs of power along with much better gas mileage!! And those old pick-ups with the coil spring suspension all the way around may not be the best for hauling a load, but they sure do ride smoothly like a big Caddy!!

Wes,

Unfortunately, most of the Chevy 400's encountered today are punched-out Chevy 350's with 4 bolt mains. The big block Chevy's are few and far between. I always preferred the Poncho big block 400 because of its power, longetivity, and fuel mileage even with a 4 bbl on it!! Of course, anytime one cracks open those rear bbls on a 4 bbl carb, you can still watch the needle on the fuel guage drop considerably, even on the Poncho 400!! At leasst the 400 is the "baby" of the more common Poncho big blocks, with the 455 being the big-un!!..those 455's have larger main bearing journals in the block for beefier crank ends, but for normal driving the 400 is just fine!! The 400 made a name for itself in performance and longetivity in the late 60's and was in the line-up as the standard engine (with the 455 the optional engine) for the Gran Prix and other Pontiacs until the 350 took over its spot in '74...the 400 still offered as an option for a year or so longer!!

Gotta love the sound of a big-block Poncho 400 with headers, dual turbo muffler exhausts, and the air cleaner lid flipped over for summer driving!! Just the sound of it has young-uns in their modern hot cars wondering just what the hell is under yer hood!! LOL!

A buddie of mine had a '67 Goat originally with a 400

with a turbo 400, with the bench seat, and 10 bolt limited slip.

He changed it over to a 428 with a Muncie 4spd, buckets, and a 12 bolt posi.

(We thought he was crazy, but he wanted to do it.)

The 428 had a Holley 750 dual feed, with the Holley manifold and just headers, that was pretty much it for engine mods.

They managed a 13.70 E.T at the track, but the big Mickey Thompson slicks they used finally got sticky.

And the 13.70 pass was with the cheap remanufactured

clutch billowing grey smoke on the run, taking itself out in the process.

That was the last visit it ever did at the drags.

That was one fun car, nice to see another Pontaic fan,

HDR.

THANX!
