So yesterday I got out ye olde carpet cleaner (Bissel) and attended to that and a few other areas of the house. Like the well worn and now expired Weed Eater, the Bissel has been reengineered to some basic but still useful capacity and it is similarly endowed with the universal fix-all -duct tape-. Duct tape. [Y][] As far as duct tape, let's see....taped up the airdam on the car with it one time until I could get the appropriate fasteners. oscarsear Posted May 1, 2012 Author Share Posted May 1, 2012 I usually apply the stuff when device mechanical attachments fail or get weak. On the carpet cleaner I use it to augment the gasket seal dimensions so that it 'sucks' better. Got an old metal rock rake with a loose head -not loose anymore-. And I do use it for shipping stuff, on the corners and edges of the boxes. These vulnerable areas will tolerate more abrasion than the cardboard alone. I've got a strip of the stuff holding my mailboxes inner latch clasp in place. The chintzy plastic retention clip fell out, never to be found. I use it to bundle up piles of Palm leaves when I put them out in the trash. I cut the trees on Sunday and it is a two week process to get them all out (I have a lot of trees). I use really cheap duct tape for this. I used to use duct tape to hold furnace filters together (like 2 20x20 filters to make a 20x40) but now I just use masking tape. Jsaint Posted May 3, 2012 Share Posted May 3, 2012 When you have a chance visit a production and stage rental company and try a good quality "Gaffer's tape" and "Snot tape" commonly used for attaching color gels to lights or each other. Gaffers tape has a colored cloth base and is super tacky but comes off of walls and paint kind of like super "post-it's". I have stuck strips (to use during production) on my jeans peeled those off as needed and tacked a small 2lb light to a wall removed the tape 30min later wrapped it on a Sharpie marker to use another day. Gaffers tape is the cool city cousin Duct tape always talks about. Snot tape is like the stuff they use for sticking credit cards or Cd's to paper but in a tape roll. I use it anywhere Blue tack or Museum wax is too thick or inconsistent and of course to stick colored gels together for lighting. Give me a pair of vice grips a tube of super glue, JB weld some assorted tie wraps, self fuse tape, gaffers tape and a leatherman tool toss all that in a bucket buddy and I can fix anything! oscarsear Posted May 4, 2012 Author Share Posted May 4, 2012 I've got some gaffers tape I use when the project will be seen. Super Glue, cyanoacrylates, the reaction catalyst is plain old water. That's why it sticks instantly to any skin. Used on dry surfaces, on a dry day and it fails to seize. What to do? Exhale on it. Exhaled breath is always 100% humidified at body temperature.
