Heritage_Head
I had originally planned on selling my sharp 70” and getting the 80” or bigger if one came out in the next year. But then after thinking about it I thought when would it end (would I just keep buying bigger flat panels)? I have no idea what I’m doing but I made the splash into the projector world. I ordered a 125” 2.35 AT screen from Seymour AV (electric retractable). And the JVC RS45 projector. The screen was ordered a few weeks ago and should be ready by next week and the projector is on its way and will be here Monday (pretty excited lol). I want to also thank youth and psg for all your help in answering my many questions. Buying this stuff was almost harder than picking out a house to buy lol. I’ll get pics up as I have them. Scrappydue
Congrats!!! I can't wait to move into a permanent home. So I can start the projector choosing.
Moderators Youthman Posted July 26, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 26, 2012 Sweet bro! Congrats! You are going to love that HUGE screen. You just can't get that same movie experience with an LCD unless you want to drop $10k. The JVC seemed like it was the better buy than the Panny. Let us know what you think after you get everything setup. And definitely want to see some pics.
TasDom
I ordered a 125” 2.35 AT screen from Seymour AV (electric retractable). And the JVC RS45 projector. Will you be using as a drop down screen in front of your LCD/LED tv?
Heritage_Head
Yes it will drop down in front of everything. I read that the AT screen wont effect the sound but I guess I will have to wait and see.
Heritage_Head
You can get screens custom built to fit your room. Like I wanted a screen to come down just past the center speaker and wide enough so it covers the 7s. It’s a tight fit I hope I took good measurements lol. TasDom
That will be soooo sweet!!! Movies on the big screen and everything else in general on the tv to save usage on the projector bulb [Y]
Heritage_Head
That’s what I was thinking too. Playing games and watching hdtv is great on the 70”. It’s when I put in a blu ray is when I’m really wanting more. Being able to move the black bars up off the screen and watch something that’s 10ft wide will be pretty cool. [] The wait is killing me. CECAA850
Nice! I wish I had a room that I could put a projector in.
Vital
Very nice! You can't go wrong with the JVC, that's what I'm going with hands down when I make the leap! Looking forward to seeing pics when it's setup! I've been seeing some really good deals on Ebay for the JVCs.
psg
Great stuff! You will be blown away! Your picture will be a match to your sound! [] Can't wait to see pics and hear your impressions. You'll be glad you went with AT.
Moderators Youthman Posted July 27, 2012 Moderators Share Posted July 27, 2012 I ordered a 125” 2.35 AT screen from Seymour AV With a screen that big, I think you are going to LOVE having a cinescope screen. I know I am VERY glad I went with a 2.35:1 screen as opposed to 16:9. Most of my viewing is on bluray so that was the better option for me and since you have the LCD behind it, you have the best of both worlds. I originally was going to do the same as you but then I realized, we don't have cable and don't have a TV in the house and watch MAYBE 10 hours of TV per year. Heritage_Head
With full screen content it will be around 100”. So I’m hopeful the full screen movies will still be pretty good. Of my blu rays (not counting tv shows and other non-movie blu rays) it’s about a 90 10 split (%). So most the movies are the cinemascope aspect. But I do watch a ton of TV. My plan atm is to watch most of that on the 70” lcd. But I’m sure at first it will be hard not to watch everything on the projector lol. You'll be glad you went with AT. It was that or get a much smaller screen. I wonder if I should have the grills off when I have the screen down? themrclean
You will want to have the grills off when playing through the screen. Also, you will want to have the speakers as close to the screen as possible, preferably a few inches. And by the way, you will love having a picture that big, and that JVC will give you great contrast and excellent black levels. Enjoy!! Heritage_Head
I think I can get them pretty close. Do you have or have had an AT screen?
themrclean
No, but I researched it a lot before I got the screen I have. Think of it like blowing through a window or door screen. If you hold your lips close to the screen and blow almost all of the air goes through, if you back up a foot or so and blow half of the air bounces back. Weird analogy but same basic concept. psg
That is really screen dependant. Most manufacturers state a minimum speaker distance and not a maximum...
JasonJCarney
Projection is the way to go. You won't regret it for HT. The only drawback IMO is not being able to watch with the lights on. As long as that doesnt matter to you then your in for a treat. Rent or buy the IMAX film "HUBBLE"...it's amazing!
Heritage_Head
So the projector came last week and I just got the call from r+l carriers. The screen is here and will be delivered tomorrow.
