Boxx
These Pioneer units can be excellent.

Boxx
Hmmm.... right around the corner. I JUST MIGHT. What's nice about the 707 is that it has auto-reverse. I would check with the seller to see if he has a pioneer take-up reel for this unit.
Tarheel
You will need some sensing tape for both ends of the tape to trigger the auto reverse. I could send you a couple of tapes if you need some blanks. May have a bit of the sensing tape as well.
billybob
I love the sound of a good reel to reel. Looks jam up!
Marvel
I had one given to me a few years ago, and finally passed it on to seti. The only issue I had was the contacts on the pushbutton switches. Some contact cleaner to care of that. I wanted one that could take larger reels, but they don't come around as often.
Schu
after doing research... 250 seems to be at the top of the range for this unit. Edited August 19, 2014 by Schu
jcmusic
Bruce, Look for an Otari MX5050 BII best bang for the buck deck out there these days. It's a workhorse and sounds great they come up on EBay
jcmusic
Me personally I would stay clear of the Pioneer decks they sound like snakes. Sssssss.
billybobg
I picked up a non-working Akai a couple of years ago for $30. $40 for parts and a bit of a learning curve and I've got a decent deck. Parts are available from a couple of sources. Quite often it's just a belt, demag and some lube. I pick up some tapes off of ebay occasionally, but honestly I don't use it all that often. Kind of a nice conversation piece and the grandkids look at it like the antique it is:)
