JiminSTL
Yes, of course, many people are talented. And the result/outcome is even more enjoyable when you have a good story to tell, and to enjoy it with good people!
Woofers and Tweeters
Oh my, what an opportunity. If someone is going to chew out the shapes for free, why not go with Walnut, Cherry or (gasp) Mahogany AB plywood? Who else has Mahogany Chorus? Won't be for "free", but, I sure like the way you think, "jweber". tap tap tap of the finger... Mahogany Chorus? me likes oh Can they veneer? I have Walnut and Oak, but I haven't seen Maple, Bird's Eye Maple or Cherry Chorus. I can only imagine Mahogany, especially if you do the face. Taking the the grill off would be topless audio porn

Taking the the grill off would be topless audio porn indeed, "topless audio porn" Thinking now that it is probably a good idea to go ahead and have the grill panel holes drilled on the new motor boards. Re-cloth the grill frames and find some badges. With two large German Shepherds, having the grills on for the unexpected, definitely an important addition (the dogs play pretty rough sometimes). I just know I am going to dislike covering these babies up. Even more, seeing the grill peg holes. But, if a woofer gets torn due to rough house, I would likely cry... Can't wait to talk to the Carpenter, tomorrow

wvu80
they made these cabs with MDF -and that can go ways into great sound -as the cab is sealed - Sealed? Then what are the two giant holes underneath the woofer?
Matthews
Sealed? Then what are the two giant holes underneath the woofer? This is going to be an up coming question, in the new thread. I plan on installing port tubes with flared mouth in the port holes of the new cabs. The new cabinets will be of the exact same internal dimensions. Will need some help/opinions?
billybob
Measured those holes awhile back. Think they are almost exactly 4 inches. Had a pair of Tangent that had 2 flared fronts each. They looked close. There are threads here on the mod. lat I looked Glad you got the grilles. Heck, glad you are happy with your Chorus Choices, choices, isn't that nice.

Can't wait to talk to the Carpenter, tomorrow I'll make you a deal: You get them done in Mahogany and it turns out that you don't like them, I'll trade you for some Walnut Chorus II that I have.
MookieStl
Does this mean my free lunch is off?? Don't go too crazy on the new cabinets. You don't want to have too much invested next time you make a switch. Never heard a bad thing about the Chorus but there is a limit to what you can expect for a return. But, you always have jweber if you go Mahogany! Good luck, sounds like a fun project.
Matthews
Does this mean my free lunch is off?? Nope, "Mookie"... Just got back from a meeting with the Amish carpenter. He wants TOO MUCH money to build these cabinets, $300 each. I am back to doing it all myself. I am going to take apart the original cabs today so I can get the motorboard out as a single piece. I have some questions about the new fabrication. The motorboard is thicker than the 3/4" plywood I will be using. Do I need to go ahead and glue additional plywood sheet (sandwich) to get to the needed 1" thickness before it goes to the CNC machine? The Mahogany plywood won't be delivered until mid next week. I am thinking to have as much ready for a trip to St. Louis as possible. Just show up and make the cuts. And of course, a nice lunch together, on my tab These are the difficult cuts, "Mookie"... sounds like a fun project Indeed, this is going to fun. Going to take a little longer than I had anticipated, but fun EDIT: so, "Mookie", I just had different thought. Can I just bring an entire, assembled cabinet? Am thinking I would like to keep these put together, give them away FREE to someone who may have a use for them. They really are not that bad, just a two areas, on one board that are not repairable. That board needs to be replaced... Edited September 7, 2015 by Matthews

Going to take a little longer than I had anticipated, but fun I don't think $300 per cabinet is that bad, but when Mookie offered it for free, $300 each sounded high. If you're back to doing it yourself, why are you going to take Mookie out for lunch? :o Mark
Matthews
why are you going to take Mookie out for lunch? Mark, "Mookie" kindly offered to cut my motorboards on his CNC machine. I think, at the very least, a free lunch is in order...
MookieStl
Bring the cabinet as is and the wood. We will make it happen. Looks like it is 1/4" layered on top of the 3/4". Might need to get two thicknesses of the plywood. The face of the motherboard is 1/4". Are you still going "grilless"?
