BigStewMan
but the heart of the question deals with the choices that we’re making now. True. If you know you can do something that will make you happier, then, do it. That's a no-brainer. The anxiety comes from either not knowing or inability... or both. well, we won't know for sure if that thing really make us happy unless we do it. Yes, the anxiety comes from both. I think the “not knowing” part is probably, like Gilbert said, a frustration from not trying it. As far as the “inability…” why be anxious about something that we know we’re incapable of? i guess we can be frustrated BECAUSE we’re lacking the ability; but, we’re probably more pissed at ourselves for not trying harder to overcome that obstacle--which takes us back to the not knowing if we could have. oldtimer
You are digressing. I never said anything about not knowing what you want. Crap. I forgot mommas advice not to try to have a coherent discussion with a lawyer.
Jeff Matthews
The fallacy is that you think it would be a ten if you chose such and such. The fact is you don't know how it really would have turned out. To me, that is the same as saying, "You might think you want a Mercedes, but you could be wrong." oldtimer
If you choose A, your life will be a ten. But reality is if you chose A there is no telling where your life may go. That is way different from wanting something yet being wrong that you wanted it. It may end up being a path to heaven, or conversely hell. The point is that you should not look back to past decisions if there is no way to actually make a different one by going back, which in our lives is a given, as far as I know. BigStewMan
It's the difference between choosing and wanting. there is no difference. if you chose something, you had an option--you chose the one you wanted.i don’t think “what could be” is the question to ask yourself. It’s not what could be; but, what is. If you are content with what choice A brought you, then you pick that over and over again. If you’re not content, then you pick something else next time. oldtimer
No dude. You only have the choices you are presented. You rarely get the choices of what you really want. They are not the same.
BigStewMan
then how do you decide NOT to chose the other one? if you chose, you wanted that one more than the other one. doesn’t mean the one you chose was ideal. but, you differentiated between the two somehow. oldtimer
Maybe Jeff is right and I am the dense one. Oh well, I will just have to keep making the choices that I have instead of making the choices that I wish I had....
Max2
Sounds like a great movie to me. Even if we already knew the consequences of our mistakes from the past, our offsets and "new" directions would just create new obstacles that may change everything for the better or worse as we proceeded in unfamiliar territory. Two or three decisions and suddenly you're making choices outside your previous life. It all sounds exciting, new and promising, but it may lead to just the opposite. Sure, the are a few choices everyone would like to erase or change for their own benefit or more importantly, benefit friends and family. In the long run the new decision wouldn't be "you." You would be perplexed with a lifetime of choices and blurred directions that would likely drive you to a coin flipping nightmare that never ended.
Moderators Travis In Austin Posted October 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 28, 2015 Once In A Lifetime Lyrics And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack And you may find yourself in another part of the world And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife And you may ask yourself Well...How did I get here? Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground And you may ask yourself How do I work this? And you may ask yourself Where is that large automobile? And you may tell yourself This is not my beautiful house And you may tell yourself This is not my beautiful wife Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Water dissolving...and water removing There is water at the bottom of the ocean Under the water, carry the water at the bottom of the ocean Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again Into the silent water Under the rocks and stones There is water underground Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground And you may ask yourself What is that beautiful house? And you may ask yourself Where does that highway go to? And you may ask yourself Am I right?...Am I wrong? And you may say to yourself yourself My God!...What have I done?! Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again Into the silent water Under the rocks and stones There is water underground Letting the days go by Let the water hold me down Letting the days go by Water flowing underground Into the blue again After the money's gone Once in a lifetime Water flowing underground Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Look where my hand was Time isn't holding us Time isn't after us Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Same as it ever was... Yeah, the twister comes Here comes the twister Same as it ever was...
Moderators Travis In Austin Posted October 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted October 28, 2015 In short, a resounding No!, because I didn't know then, what I know now. Currently living the life I have, because I'm too old to pursue the career I longed for most of my life, but didn't go for it, because I puss'ed out..... didn't have the balls to just go for it. But then, had I done otherwise, I may not have the great wife and children I do now. Moral of the story, don't dwell on the past, live for today. What career is that, if you don't mind saying?
