baronkyle
General question for you guys. Which Sherwood receivers are the most collectible, in your opinion? (Tube or SS) Secondly, I am listing a question for a friend. He has a Sherwood S-7800. Does anyone know what lamps these take on the tuner dial face? No service manual on hifiengine and the unit has a mix in there right now.
Dr Morbius
I'm not sure how good that model is, (their first solid state amp) - but their tube amps before the S-7800 are very fine and collectible!
Mallette
Extremely variable brand, sort of like Radio Shack. Some great stuff and some crap, but in general often they were great bargains back in the day. Dave
mustang guy
I always thought of Sherwood as the bottom end of hifi. My favorite old tube stuff is the Fisher, and solid state is big transformer Jap receivers like Marantz, Pioneer and Toshiba. I would like to have anything McIntosh some day, but if I do buy one, there goes the budget... If you are being sold Sherwood, look at Fisher instead. A bit more expensive, but it was the stuff being sold in the back room whereas Sherwood was in the front of the store.

Kento31
Hello, I found this post while looking for a downloadable schematic for my Sherwood S-7800 that amazingly is still going strong!!. The bulb type for the front panel bulb is a type #53 bayonet style. These bulbs are rated at 14 volt. I am replacing all 4 of mine, so I pulled one out of my S-7800 yesterday to confirm this. Fish
Ahh...kinda surprised this forum with some great speakers/gear has SO little info on great Sherwood receivers. I still want to answer this question for future inquiries. The s7910 and 9910 are outstanding in construction and sound. I have top of the line HK, Anthem, Classic Pioneer,Sansui, Kenwood, Marantz, Onkyo others of the 70's. The 7910 competes EASILY with any of them and not bested by any of them, but does best some. One of the better sounding and powerful sounding units I have heard from the golden era. If you get a chance to hear/buy one, you may get a surprise. I sure got nothing to gain, just want to give a heads up to anyone interested in the future.
