S+J
So I ordered 2 Klipsch heresy iii speakers and it seems that one isn't working. I am about 99% positive that I hooked it up correctly. When I moved it around it made a noise like something was loose. How would I go about opening it up to see if on the inside something is unhooked some where or damaged. The outside itself is not damaged at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am just not sure what to do.
jjptkd
I would probably remove the 12" woofer myself as you can see everything inside from there.
Ceptorman
If it's new you can send it back and the warranty will take care of it. Or, you can open it up and check the wiring, it sounds like the wiring isn't connected properly
CECAA850
If there's no sound whatsoever, it might be easier to just check the wiring at the crossover by removing the terminal cup. It's a lot lighter than the woofer.
jason str
Maybe a few good whacks with a hammer.
S+J
Yeah there is no sound at all. So start with the terminal?
The History Kid
I'd also start with the terminal cup. Shine a light in there and see if you can get your eyes on wiring that's loose. Sounds to me like it may be something even running to the cup.
jason str
First thing i would do is hook up the one that does not work with the wire from the one that does. This way you will know it is in fact the speaker.
Ceptorman
Did you try to switch the speaker wires from your amp? See if the sound stays with the same speaker.
S+J
Switched the speakers. And the one that didn't work last time didn't work again. Looks like I'll try and opening up the terminal.
S+J
So this is a very awful picture of what I'm seeing. Seems as if the terminal wasn't connected to anything.
S+J
Okay so it definitely is not connected. Now how to connect it again?
Max2
Well, you're not going to bi-amp those unless you removed the wires from the top lugs, not that you needed to anyway. You bought these new? Are there two unhooked wires coming off the X-over as well?
S+J
Yes there are two unhooked wires coming off of the x-over.
S+J
And I they were returned ones so they were as close to new as I could get.
Max2
You have a soldering iron? Edited April 25, 2016 by Max2
S+J
Yes I do
Max2
Two wires hanging from X-over go the the top feeding the mid and tweet and the two others for the bottom lugs feeding the woofer I think. Lots of people here very familiar with these new X-overs for the Heresy. You may have to solder directly to the board for the woofer, but maybe just caps. Can you get a better picture of the X-over? You should be able to see where to re-solder the bottom lugs
S+J
Here is a better picture of the x-over
Max2
Im out on a limb here, but the black stripe grey wire to negative top lug and other grey wire to positive. Can you get a full picture of top side X-over?
