I'm Sick of Love Songs

I'll keep this related to audio. While many aren't crazy about country music, and this is a love song of sorts, it has clever lyrics.

Record Year
Written by Eric Church and Jeff Hyde

Since you turned the tables on me
I’ve been steady and learnin’ lonely
Keepin’ this turntable spinnin’
Everything from Jones to Jennings
Slowly plannin’ my survival
In a three foot stack of vinyl
Since you had to walk outta here
I’ve been havin’ a record year

I bet you thought before you left
I’d just sit in silence by myself
Turn this house into a jail
Dyin’ slow in a living hell
But love’s got a funny way of keepin score
And your leavin' lit up my scoreboard
I usually make it through Side A sober
All bets are off when I flip her over
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
I’m havin a record year

Quarter notes and Hank’s half time
Are pounding on this heart of mine
Song to song, I pass my time
        With these speakers on ten
Your good and gone keeps me up all night
Along with Songs In The Key Of Life
I’m either gonna get over you
Or I’m gonna blow out my ears
        Yeah you’re out there now
Doing God knows how and I’m stuck here
        Havin’ a record year

Your leaving left me going crazy
Im countin’ on a needle to save me
I drop it in the groove
And we go 'round and 'round
And down in a spiral
I guess I really oughta call and thank you
I rediscovered Red Headed Stranger
Got down with old James Brown
And found new grass revival
If you find your way back, I owe you a beer
For my record year

Quarter notes and Hank’s half time
Are pounding on this heart of mine
Song to song, I pass my time
        With these speakers on ten
Your good and gone keeps me up all night
Along with Songs In The Key Of Life
I’m either gonna get over you
Or I’m gonna blow out my ears
        Yeah you’re out there now
Doing God knows how and I’m stuck here
        Havin’ a record year

Yeah I’m having a record year

Islander, great songs, especially those mummies (has sex so technically a love song). Love their beat.  YOu have eclectic tastes in music. Something I heartily approve of.

Songs abut drinkin?  Tell me more! (better not be 99 beers on the wall)

As it happens, the first three songs were by Toronto bands that were big in the 1980s.

So you want drinkin' songs?  Here's a classic:

George Thorogood - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer:

George does seem to like his drinkin', or at least he likes singing about it.  This was recorded in 2013, and it looks like he's not aging too badly.  He was asked what he does to stay healthy, and his reply was that he gets plenty of sleep.  "The doc never told me, 'George, you're getting too much sleep.', so I figure I'm doing something right."

George Thorogood and The Destroyers - I Drink Alone (LIve at Montreux 2013):

Then there's Joe Walsh.  He was drunk non-stop for decades, but he finally quit in 1994.  Then he discovered that he had to learn how to play his guitar while he was sober, something he hadn't done since he was much younger.  With encouragement from his wife, he got it together and started touring and recording again.

Here's a song from his 2012 CD, Analog Man.

Certainly not new, but still good....I suppose it could be a twist on muff divin

Mmmmhhh mhmm, yeah yeah
Holy Diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becoming of me

Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean

Gotta get away
Holy Diver

Shiny diamonds
Like the eyes of a cat in the black and blue
Something is coming for you
Look out

Race for the morning
You can hide in the sun 'till you see the light
Oh we will pray it's all right

Gotta get away, get away

Between the velvet lies
There's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies
Life's a never ending wheel

Holy Diver
You're the star of the masquerade
No need to look so afraid

Jump, jump
Jump on the tiger
You can feel his heart but you know he's mean
Some light can never be seen, yeah

Holy Diver
You've been down too long in the midnight sea
Oh what's becoming of me
No, no

Ride the tiger
You can see his stripes but you know he's clean
Oh don't you see what I mean

Gotta get away, get away
Gotta get away, get away
Holy diver, soul survivor
You' re the one whose clean
Holy Diver, Holy Diver
Never come to knew, coming after you
Holy Diver
Holy Diver, yeah

Alright, get away, get away, get away
Holy diver, holy diver, holy diver mmhhmmm

Social Distortion if you're into fast paced guitar playing and punkish rock, Brian Setzer Orchestra, The Offspring, U2, Judas Priest, Metallica, to name a few.

With friends like you, who needs enemies?
You ain't right, you ain't never gonna be,
You're out of the car, I'm afraid you've been declined.
You shake my hand, while you're pissing on my leg
I'm cuttin you loose, I don't need this misery
Your soul is toxic, you ain't no friend of mine.

You talk real trash when I'm not around
To build yourself up, you gotta to tear me down.
You'll have to excuse me, I've got better things to do.
You smile through your teeth, you talk out your neck
Every chance you get you're gonna stab my back.
Your time's run out, I've got nothing left for you...

[Chorus:]
I'm leaving you far behind.
I'm leaving you far behind.
Stop wasting all, all my time.
I'm leaving you far behind.

So I'm pulling out the weeds, I'm taking stock
You can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk
Your narcissistic ways have gotten the best of you.
So I'm leaving you to sink, in all your glory
For you and me it's the end of the story.
Get out of my way, I've got better things to do...

[Chorus x3]

With friends like you, who needs enemies?
You ain't right, you ain't never gonna be
Your soul is toxic, you ain't no friend of mine.
