New Klipsch THX System PICS!!!!

I don't like the fact that the left and right front channels require stands. Maybe they're intended to be somewhat built-in to a dedicated home theater, so the stands wouldn't be needed? But hey, who cares what I like? The cabinet finish looks pretty cool and the overall designs are very nice. MSRP?

the MK mains

the MK sub

the full MK THX system...

definately not as sexy as the Klipsch's Smile.gif

And FWIW, the price of the MK SOUND THX speaker system above, the price is $9247. For the cheaper system, $5,249 This is a 5.1 system as you can see, and it is NOT self powered. The self powered version is about twice as much.

Pretty nice looking Klipsch setup. 2 subs, pretty nice. But from the looks, can it really sound that much better than the RF-7's? Or is it just power ratings that make it "THX Certified"? I would rather have the RF-7 system in that color/metal finish Smile.gif

Interesting... would take a little getting used to. I do like the style of the rear surounds. Subs look something like the Velodyne CHT series, but vented at the top instead of the bottom. Is this the very THX series BobG was so mum about? If so, where did you get the pic? Nice Post.

Klipsch sent me a set to try out in the home theater

I am building and I took a few pics to share with

everyone. Klipsch is really a generous company, more

than you would think. I must say they sond amazing

in my room, especially with the Aragon preamp they

sent over. We had a little party over here, ribs and drinks for all. It was a fun affair.

In all honesty, they emailed them to me Smile.gif

I'm not one to get too excited about the looks of a speaker. I try to focus on the saying that speakers should be heard but not seen--especially the drivers. The cabinets seem to have a refined modern look but I certainly would put the grill covers on (I know the photo is to show the speakers). Klipsch seems to be emphasing with the RF7's and now these that the cones & horn look cool with the grill off...maybe in a speaker show room but not in my home. They may actually sound better w/o the cover, too, but to my kids the cones say "poke me". I keep turning my head and seeing the horn as the mouth and the cones as the eyes to what looks like the head of a robot. I want to look at the $10K plasma screen or other items in a room although with 5 boxes along the front wall the room is filling up.

I must confess though. I really like the looks and sound of those big $8k and up Martin Logan electrostatic hybrid speakers, but probably couldn't fit the cool towers in my house...certainly couldn't justify the price.

So do you think the new THX speakers will sound better than a heritage HT and make me want to relegate my Cornwalls to 2-channel only and use this new setup?

Okay, I'll open myself up to the abuse....I like the older Klipsch speakers better and probably always will. Give me oiled oak anyday.

They're Klipsch so they're better than any other brand but the main speakers in this system just don't appeal to me. The surrounds are nice though.

So, what's the verdict? Will these new THX speakers sound better than the Klipsch RF-7s, RC-7, and RS-7s with SVS CS-Ultra subwoofers?

no way to tell until you listen to them. Though it may be a safe bet to say that the SVS subs may still win out.

But how do you think the RF-7s will compare to the THX speakers? Those woofers on the THX speakers look mighty small to me.

Part of the THX spec is that the front three speakers have to be identical, and they have to have a 2nd order roll off that is 3dB down at 80hz. This is to mate up properly with THX certified processors bass management. Which has a 4th order low pass on the sub output and a 2nd order high pass that when summed with the natural roll of the speaker results in a 4th order slope that matches the sub low pass filter.

So a pair of 5" drivers covering this range should be fine. Although I don't think they will be able to reach full dolby reference level in larger rooms.
