Kopo
Anyone local familiar with the LS’s that’s willing to come to Clearwater? Id like to audition them for you and get your opinion. I also recently purchased a McIntosh 2100 and C24. I feel something is off a bit and being new to the vintage gear scene I’d like an opinion from a local audiophile. I supply lunch and adult beverages 😉
Alexander
My old stomping grounds , I will get hold of a friend that is in Largo that also just purchased a set of 1986 LS's and see if he be interested.

JohnJ
@Kopo That sounds right up @Emile 's alley. He's a tinkerer of cones & crossovers and might be very close by...depending on which side of that new Skyway bridge he's on today! 1

wvu80
What is the serial number on the LS? It would also help to further identify what you have if you will list the crossover type (ie Type AA). The point being that LS's are great speakers but there are a few years where the sound went backwards with the Type AL and AL-2 crossovers. This is easily fixed by replacing said XO's but it will cost you a couple hundred bucks.

Kopo
Wvu80. along with the serial number stamped on to the top edge of the rear cabinet is there also a number on the crossover plate that I should look for?
Marvel
The crossovers will have, on the aluminum plate, the model of the crossover, as A, AA, , AL, AL2, AL3 Here's an old AA from a Klipschorn. Bruce

JohnJ
@Emile With your talk of vino appeasing possibly offended neighbors when you jam out with your collection.... Though you might not mind if I volunteered you for lunch and a brewski 1

Drag a bottle of grape juice outta the stash and grab a bucket of Chicken wings from the Colonel. You got this!
JohnA
They are 1979 or older with the K-77 tweeters. The heavy wire (monster?) is a mod. You *may* need to replace the caps in the crossover at that age. 1

I would suggest just listening to them for at least a month, see how they sound to you. And listen to everything @JohnA said directly upstream ^^^.
Marvel
Since no one has mentioned this... if you haven't already done this... Loosen each screw on the crossover terminal strip and re-tighten. Even wires tightened can tarnish and affect the connection.
