oldtimer
So London Calling is classic rock now. Sharif don't like it...... Cool tune even so. Lets say anything over 25 years is classic, sort of like the cut off for taking the smog test. "Oh, there is a train that leaves the stationheaded for your destinationbut the price you pay to nowhere has increased a dollar more." oldtimer
I know no one is playing when a Zep tune goes unnamed after 3 hours.
Ray Garrison
"Give lyrics of about 10 words minimum to national classic rock artists..." I'd consider something to be "classic" if almost anyone recognizes it immediately when they hear it, and it's been around for at least a couple years. I don't thing Jeff meant it had to be a "golden oldie". I bet a *LOT* of the challenges here are from songs done less than 25 years ago. Jeff, you out there? Thoughts? uh, Celebration? Celebration Daze? something like that... lessee, 25 years old... Why don't you ask him if he's going to stay? Why don't you ask him if he's going away? Why don't you tell me what's going on? Why don't you tell me who's on the phone? Why don't you ask him what's going on?
Jeff Matthews
Thoughts? [*-)] I think London Calling fits the bill enough. The rules call for judgment, and there's plenty of room for grey area. The idea of trying to limit the genre was to keep the thread moving, instead of bogging down when a 14 year old posts Nine Inch Nails or something. You get the idea. I can't place the current challenge. How about a clue? Play on....
theryugobuddy
I think someone had a Hootie and the Blowfish challenge many pages back , huh? Pearl Jam has been on here. That's not far out of the realm. I think its more a sound than a specific era. I'd consider alot of the 80's to be classic rock--like the Cars, Simple Minds, the Cure, etc. But I agree about NIN, industrial, rap, alot of alternative stuff--keep that stuff off! How about the classical sheet music that guy posted? Please refrain and start another thread with that stuff-- This is a great thread--I look forward to checking it out. I can't believe the prettiest girl thread is gaining on it--
oldtimer
You have to realize that those photos take up a lot more page space than this thread, Buddy, so it's not as close as it looks.

Ray Garrison
Elton John Island Girl back in a mo... Okay, try this one. Everyone's heard it, everyone knows it, but you might not know it was recorded by a "real" group, a classic one at that. I'd like to buy the world a home and furnish it with love, Grow apple trees and honey bees, and snow white turtle doves.
Jeff Matthews
Yes, I heard it before. Something like the Mamas and the Pappas. Somebody on here know this...
theryugobuddy
Wasn't that a Coke jingle they played at Christmastime 20 years ago? "Its the Real Thing"?
Ray Garrison
Okay, maybe that was a bit far out in left field. Group that sang it was the New Seekers. They also sang Look What They've Done To My Song Ma, Complete lyrics: "I'd like to buy the world a home and furnish it with love, Grow apple trees and honey bees, and snow white turtle doves. I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company. {Repeat the last two lines, and in the background:} It's the real thing, Coke is what the world wants today." Sorry about that. Getting back to basics... At the party she was kindness in the heartthrong. Consolation in the old room now forgotten. Yellow tigers frostm' jungles in the dark eyes. Keep just pressing Goodbye windows tired starling.
Jeff Matthews
Okay, who couldn't guess "White Room" by Cream? Next: "Black Nepalese, it's got you weak in your knees Just seeds and dust that you got bust onYou know it's hard to believe" Name that Tune!
