jheis
Thanks Allan: Had a hard time whittling my list down to 30. If you want to get in on this I'd suggest you act fast. Some of the titles on the early lists posted by Allan are no longer listed on the site, so I expect they're selling out fast. James
fini
What's the deal with the K2 discs? Will they play on any CD player?

garymd
What's the deal with the K2 discs? Will they play on any CD player? Yes. I have a few Cannonball Adderly K2 discs and they will play on anything and sound great. My favorite is "Know What I Mean?" with Bill Evans. They do a beautiful version of A Waltz For Debbie, an Evans classic.
coda
From the CD sleeve. . This album was mastered in analog utilizing the 20-Bit K2 Super Coding System. Developed by JVC, the 20-Bit [system] integrates three important digital audio functions: 1. The JVC 20-Bit 128-times over-sampling high resolution analog to digital converter 2. The JVC K2 Super Coding resolves the high resolution 20-Bit signal to the 16-bit compact disc format while retaining the integrity of the low level information 3. The JVC K2 Interface effectively eliminates time base jitter in the digital data stream. The end result is a compact disc of extraordinarily higher resolution than that of today's conventional compact discs. The 20-Bit K2 Super Coding System allows the listener to hear every subtle sonic nuance from the breathing of the musicians to the explosive crack of the snare drum. Enjoy! the sweet deal are on those Coltrane and BE box sets imo..
Allan Songer
Yes, the Box Sets are a STEAL. I just don't need them--I have all that stuff on original vinyl and just can't find it in me to pop for the CD sets. But anyone who DOESN'T have the records should JUMP on them!!
garymd
Was there a Coltrane box set? If so, it's gone. I'll bet that Trumpet box set is good if you like early swing. The modern trumpet (Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, etc.), Volume 2, HAS to be great. For $12, it's worth the risk IMO.

Dflip
Guys, thank you very much for the heads up and the list. I had a nice list of 20 that I thought I would enjoy and then went to the checkout part and Fantasy Jazz and Concord have the same checkout policy, no sales outside of the U.S., that includes Canada. I have the Cannonball Adderley K-20 bit recording and it does sound great, actually I have four K-20 bit recordings and they all sound so much better than the regular CD's. I paid $18 - 22 Canadian for these CD's in the past 4 years and there are just so few available in the stores up here. I have the regular Hampton Hawes Trio, vol. 1 and the music is wonderful. Enjoy the offer, I can't take advantage of it, unless one of you would like to add some of mine to your order and then ship them to me via USPS. I could easily pay you the PayPal amount, plus the USPS shipping and taxes. It might be of some use to one of you who can't make 30, but would be willing to assist and benefit yourself in the process. [A] I am going out for the day, but should be back later tonight. E-mail works the best, dflip47@sympatico.ca Allan, Gary, thank you for your contributions to this list. At $2.98 a Cd it is almost impossible to go wrong. Dflip
I was able to find a connection in the States, so I placed an order for 30 cd's mostly 20-bit recordings. It may take me a week or two to get them, but I'm sure they will sound good.
colterphoto1
ANYBODY- can ya help me out? I didn't buy any of the Hawes or Garland pieces. Called the customer service line but they are unwilling to change any orders. So if you need a few extras to fill out your order or want to swap for something I got, could you double up on a couple of the Hawes/ Garland CD's? Those ones that Allan suggested would be super cool. I flubbed my order and the only way I could get back to 30 was to double up, so I got two of the Guaaraldi Fate to the Wind Cd's. I hope I didn't mess up by ordering those Super K (?) series CD's. I thought that was just a mastering process, didin't know it took a special kind of player for them...... or does it? I want to put mine in my iMac jukebox for house tunes or to mix down mood musics- will they work for that? Michael
colterphoto1
Chris, I see you took Allan's suggestions on the Garland and Hawes, but NO MILES???? Maybe you already have some. You should have Kind of Blue in your collection at a minimum. Maybe we can swap notes on our beginning collections? I see Gary answered my Kbit questions above. Good to know that they are superior technology and will play on anything! Michael
Dflip
Colter, unfortunately I already sent in the order, otherwise I would have added a few to the package and had my friend in Rochester send them to you. Maybe someone else will be able to help. I have a couple of the K-20 bit recordings already and they play fine on my cd player. The recording quality is a lot better, but I must admit, $2.98 US is a lot better than the $18 - 21 Cdn that I paid for the few I already own. Good luck. Bye the way, this was my order at $2.98 each.
