HarryO
I'm not trying to be the voice of reason or anything, but if the guy is a crook of the magnitude implied, I'm thinking chances are pretty good he's going to get taken care of by someone he scammed. In that case the list of suspects will be easy to find. A simple internet search will go a long way to finding people that put too much in print. Now I'm not saying a crook doesn't deserve it, but I'm not sure it's up to us to exact revenge. Also, if I personally were to exact revenge on someone that scammed me for more than a couple of bucks I know for a fact I wouldn't say a word to anyone and just do it. It would make sense to me to keep the evidence down to a minimum and not tell on myself before hand. If anything happens to the guy I think I'd have my alibi solid. Things do have a way of coming around and biting you right in the Tush. Hey, I do watch TV detective shows. Harry
Klipschfoot
You have records of what has transacted. He stole from you. Follow up with police. I would be happy to do a drive-by. That area of town is, as Gary said, not so good. Next time anyone wants to conduct business through any portal, post it. If we act as agents for each other, there is little chance for these kind of hoodlums to scam a forum member. Tell prospective sellers/buyers that you will send "Tony" for the merchandise/money at a neutral place. Everyone knows "Tony." I presume we all know each other somehow. With those checks in play, we all win. Good Luck and Godspeed.

Spongeworthy
My take is that: (1) The police won't do anything for under 5K, maybe 10. I say that because I've been there - 1,500 with all the proof you could ever need in a court of law. Receipts, address, phone numer. The local police would not do as much as dial his number. Unbelievable, I know. Believe it. (2) We are typically not tough guys on this forum with maybe a couple of exceptions. We are audio geeks. I for one will not put myself in harms way for a few hundred bucks. (3) Scumbags like this will eventually get theirs. Just like a casino - house will eventually win. Sorry for all involved. pauln
There are attorneys and current/ex law enforcement folks in this forum... Might help to have prudent advice on do's and don'ts prior to rattling this guy's cage. If some of you are planning an aggressive house call you might want to settle in advance who gets your gear in the event you don't make it back to avoid the post morten embarrasment of folks calling dibs... Maybe something much less drastic could be done... is there such a thing as contracting a hacker to steal his identity so we could use it to harrass other scammers? Bonzo
The first problem you will run into by involving Law Enforcement is jurisdictional issues. As the transaction crossed state lines, it becomes a Federal case. Local agencies in California and/or Maryland likely will not touch it. In California it would only rise to the level of petty theft, a misdemeanor, anyway. Good luck getting the FBI to take a $300 theft case. However, if this guy makes a habit of this, which it appears he dose, they may have other cases or complaints on him. One more added to the pile might help? I would also contact the Postal Inspector as the transaction was done via the mail and you used Postal MO's. They also may have other complaints on him. So sorry this happened and good luck, Mark
ejlif@sunset.net
Jordan, I'm happy to hear that you at least got back some of your money. I would be thrilled with 1000.00 back at this point. This has got to be the weirdest thing I've heard of with this guy behaving like this. I contacted one of his other dealings who had left him feedback and he said that it took forever to get him to ship his CD player and the communication was terrible. I can only imagine what a catastrophy this guys life must be. I'm heading out to Baltimore around Sept 20th to see the motocross of nations race, so I will pay a visit to his address while I'm there. I'll have 3 of my tough moto x buddies with me, so I'm not to scared about showing up at his door no matter what the neighborhood. I can't imagine it's worth any amount of money to have to look over your shoulder all the time the way this guy must. Hell if I were gonna steal money I would make it more than a measly 1200 or 1300 in your case. Really I know the best thing I can do for myself is probably just drop it and get a different cart, maybe a better one yet and just quit worrying about this ***. Kharma will get revenge on him for all of us I'm sure of it. Michael, I hope you are reading this......what a puss you are! Ryan

oldbuckster
Maybe the $300.is a restocking fee ? Relax alittle longer, see what shakes out, why would he send some back and not the rest of the money? Very strange happenings to say the least...........Good Luck, keep your fingers crossed, hope for the best !!!!!!!!!!!
Mike Lindsey
why would he send some back and not the rest of the money? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say he spent it or paid his bookie...
shload
Or maybe a Doctor......I spent 10 un-planned days in ICU & 3 months of recovery at home and fell behind in some things. Family and friends helped me keep up, but in the list of things to get straight...insurance..doctors..rent...Audio would not be right upfront. I think the communication and some payment, would leave me to believe this will work out. I was 39 when this happened to me, I can't even imagine would it would be like to try and keep up with things at an older age. Just a different view vs. the arson and battery threats. Deang
This is between Jordan, the scammer, AudiogoN, and whatever law enforcement agency Jordan brings into this. Forming a conspiracy to inflict harm on this guy, on a public forum no less -- could see some of you in a worse situation than this scammer. If something happens to this guy, you're all suspects. Not real smart.
meagain
I admit to not reading this whole thread - just scanning my email subscription..... but do we know for sure this guy isn't in the hospital? or otherwise compromised to where a family member is trying to triage things for him? I ask because I experienced something like this (a different story than one guy dieing on me)..... I went nuts and it turns out something really 'did' happen. I mean, if my husband got sick and I had to scramble to make angry buyers happy, I could see myself screwing up on a refund. Oh OK - I'll go read everything. Sorry, it's a long thread. Mike Lindsey
I think rounding up the posse was just in good fun, Dean. I don't think anyone plans on getting face to face with this scumbag. I mean, have you even seen Gary and Larry in person? [] Mike
ejlif@sunset.net
well looks like he is going to at least be suspended from Audiogon. I filed a dispute against him and since he didn't answer back within 3 days then he looses. At least he won't be able to get to anyone else. I hope he's in the hospital and in a lot of pain, he deserves it. There is no way that he is innocent. He sold the same item to two people which is enough to consider him bad bad bad.
