rplace
I know there was a long post about this box, but too lazy to search. At the time is seemed that Amazon was selling it cheaper then most. I went to buy it and they were out...but they did have listings for "used" ones from who else Amazon. I am guessing returns. Text said missing shrink wrap. Well I took a chance because it has same 30 day return policy. It arrived today box is perfect, shrink wrap is opened only to let LPs out...still clinging to box. LPs are visually perfect. One lable is bubbled up a tad. A few of the covers have splits 1 inch long where LP moved through during shipping. I will only know how good they are when I play them but the appear to be perfect from a vinly point of view. These are out of print and pushing 200 bones on line now. I gather from reading that they cannot be beat in sound. Amazon price with free shipping was $104. If they play perfect they are a bargain. All paperwork appears to be in the box/sleeves too. 04249/12500 is my number. Pretty low for ordering after sold out. You bargain hunters might want to give this a try. Less then 15 bucks an LP seems pretty reasonable to me if they are in fact the best sounding versions you can currently get. Carry on! rcarlton
My understanding is they are redoing the covers...you will note erronious numbers on the Doors mono cover. Split covers because of shipping, noisy pressing, etc. Rhino took them off the market and is apparently reprinting the covers and repressing the LP's so they are perfect. All of us who have the somewhat less than perfect sets will need to write Dr. Rhino for replacements (all you need is your receipt) plus for the inconvenience they will also send you a 7-inch vinyl "Light My Fire" single (mono/stereo). "Dear Doors fans,As some of you know, the recent release of The Doors Vinyl Box Set hasbeen problematic, and so an apology and an explanation from Rhino is inorder. While the sound on the LPs has been extremely well-received, there havebeen some unfortunate problems with the packaging that we are workingto resolve. The release of this Box Set has not met the high standards of eitherRhino or The Doors, and we are taking steps to rectify this. Rhinosincerely apologizes for any inconvenience and/or disappointment causedby these problems. As a result, Rhino has decided to recall all unsold stock fromretailers and wholesalers, and re-supply with stock that is perfect.Additionally, for those of you who have already purchased the Box Set, please contact dr.rhino@rhino.comwith requests for replacement for damaged LPs, jackets or boxes andthey will be supplied as soon as possible without charge forreplacement or shipping. We ask for your patience as we manufacture more jackets, but we assure you that everyone will be taken care of. Additionally, Rhino is making a limited edition 7-inch vinyl "Light MyFire" single (mono/stereo) which we will supply as a free gift to allpurchasers of the Doors Box Set who contact Dr. Rhino or www.thedoors.com.Sincerely,Rhino RecordsBurbank, CA " "Hi, All - I have an update for you:I have just finished discussions with Rhino, and here's what they are doing - They are going to print BRAND NEW sleeves and covers of all seven LPs,all from a different company - Stoughton - which is known worldwide forbeautiful, uberquality, archive-worthy heavy-duty high-end printing. All covers will be extra thick, all will be UV-coated individually, andthey will be slightly larger to accommodate the weighty 180g virginvinyl pressings.Rhino is printing 12,500 complete sets of sleeves and covers, for ALL people who request them.DON'T request them now, though!!!!Just wait, and as soon as they are ready, I'll let you know, and you'llALL receive a complete new set of these Stoughton covers & sleevesfor your Box Set, all at no charge to you for the jackets or theshipping. As for those of you who want your box resealed, I'm working on that, but it will definitely cost you shipping both ways, unfortunately. What I'd suggest for those of you who HAVE Box Sets that you have NOTopened, go ahead and request the new jackets/sleeves WHEN I ANNOUNCE IT(not before, PLEASE), and put those WITH your sealed box - then you'reall set!For those of you who have already opened your box, stand by, I will tryand better your position, but as of now, what I wrote above is all I'vebeen able to get. So far. __________________ Thanks - JeffJeff JampolThe Doors Music Co.Los Angeles, CA"
nu2toobs
My local record store has the original release. I may buy it and not open it for an investment more than anything. The value should go up on the first release.

rcarlton
Morrison Hotel Changed the cover to a mat finish like original. The rest of the covers were hard to tell from the originals. Over all Rhino did a pretty good job. Expect the replacement records by mid-November plus Light My Fire 7-inch single.

Mike Lindsey
I believe my new covers are waiting for me when I get home tomorrow. Mine all have the 1 - 2 inch scrape across the tops of the covers, so I'm hoping this new set will be an improvement. As for the sound of these new re-issues I only have one word to say. Amazing!! :-) Mike

garymd
It's not too late! Just yesterday I emailed Rhino because my vinyl is a bit noisy. Not all but a few of the LPs. They asked for a list of replacement parts and I told them the only really quiet LP is Strange Days but my covers were OK except for a couple I had to re-glue. I also mentioned I've never played the mono LP. How did they respond to this? After the LPs are recut later this month, they'll send me new EVERYTHING - LPs, Covers & the bonus single. How's THAT for customer service??? SWEEEEET indeed!!

oldtimer
For those who have this set, are you using the poly sleeves they provided or have you switched the lp's to our favorite mofi rice paper backed sleeves? My set arrived today, HUZZAH! It's in the mid 8000s serial wise and so far looks very good. No time to audition yet.
