  1. Good Morning. Drove into work in a heavy fog. Just took it nice and easy. Some people just don't get when you can't see, you really need to slow down. All well that ends well. At my desk, listening to some Melody Gardot. Yes, I have a nice system here too.

  2. Morning gang We have come around to my Fav day again, Tacos and they will be Bison. Wife in tow we hit the local Costco and stocked for the month. AnchorSteam had a case of four six packs of various tasty brews, will be sampling today. Now we are FINELY in a weather loop, cold, like 60s, few rain drops recieved will be just enough for Skeeters. Ah, just looked up to the CCTV monitor, we have Fog forming. From summer to winter overnight, so much for Fall........

  4. And others just don't get that a yellow light doesn't mean "go like hell to beat the red and make a left turn into oncoming traffic." The other driver was cited, but did not have insurance. Hit my driver side front fender/hood area and pushed me right into a cement wall / guardrail at the corner of the bridge just beyond the intersection at about 35 mph. My engine caught fire and the front fenders were pushed underneath the door skins making it very difficult to exit the car. Fortunately a few very alert civilian first responders located a fire extinguisher and put out the fire before it became too problematic. I still seem to be having a type of periodic flash-back to the shock I experienced in the accident, some lower back pain, a general fatigue and some short term memory issues (for some reason I thought this thread was named "Coffee and Cables" not "Cables, Coffee, and Cocktails" and I could not find it for a while ). I realize that if it wasn't for the front crumple zone built into this car, the air bags and seat belt I wouldn't be here typing this today. As it was the dash/instrumentation area was pushed back onto my knees.

  5. Morning folks. Rainy day here with moderate flooding. Not suppose to clear till Thursday. Finished reading my James Patterson book last night while watching the Panthers pull out a squeaker over the Colts. A library run is on the agenda to pick up a couple more books. LF still away. Breakfast and coffee done. Nice looking sub Luther. Never had one. Not even sure how you plug them into your system Via the xover? I've always though about ducted ports for my speakers....kind of like Full Range did on his Scalas. Those are some handsome speakers. All for now so..... Cheers Ladies and Gents

  6. Happy Tuesday all. Another pretty fall day in our neck of the woods but the weather folks say possible rain/snow mix tomorrow. We'll see. Sticking one's head out the window produces a more accurate forecast much of the time. We were sick of the usual TV crap last night so we located an old John Wayne movie "Fort Apache." Great old flick. Gonna seek out more of those. Have a great day.

We were in an air bag deploying crash when a women drove through a red light while on the phone. It's an experience I do not recommend.

  11. My wife got rear ended by a Dodge. Her rear bumper skid plate shoved his car down and she ended up on top of his hood. Her car is 4 wheel drive, so she just drove off the hood and parked on the side of the road.

  12. I've been in 3 accidents with air bag deployment, all 3 vehicles fairly new and totaled. None my fault. I've been in 2 other accidents prior to air bags and both of them totaled as well. I still flinch when I see a car creep into an intersection.

  15. Glad you made it through that Fjd. When was the accident? I was in a bad one during college days. Five of us in a Ford wagon hit a tractor trailer making a 3 point turn on a 3 lane road. No street lights and no moon....like driving along and a wall jumps in front of you. The guy in what should have been the safest seat (middle of the back seat) and next to me was killed. What bothers me these days is when I look in the rear view mirror and see someone texting in heavy traffic Just waiting to hear tires squealing.

  20. This sub has a built in amplifier, so I just run an RCA cable from the pre to the amp. Adjust the crossover point and volume at the sub.

  21. They need an amplifier and a signal. Either run speaker cables or a low level RCA (from your pre-amp or receiver) to the sub amp and then speaker wires from the sub amp to the sub driver.

  23. Thanks. Since I had the appropriate uninsured motorist coverage, my insurance company totaled it out and got me back on the road. The aspect that I had a hard time wrapping my head around was that I've driven well over one million miles and have seen plenty of situations unfold that I could avoid easily. This one there was just no place to go. It sure was an experience that I wouldn't wish it on anyone; however, I was pleasantly surprised how many of the civilian first responders remained calm, quickly assessed the situation and prevented something a lot worse. Thanks. End of July. There is one more situation that I encountered the first of October. It seems that some drivers do not look to see if someone is stopped at a red traffic light before they try to proceed through the light. I picked up a very mint car for a nice price coming off of a three year lease and about a mile or so from my office, I get rear-ended by an Explorer. Had I not caught a glimpse in the mirror and let off my brake, it may have been much worse. Not much damage to his vehicle, but mine is currently at $6,000 in repairs and they still need to assess the frame. A few friends have said it is time to go buy a lottery ticket since my luck should be turning around any time now.

  28. I've ALWAYS used seat belts since the early sixties. When airbags were first introduced I viewed them as a tax on everyone smart enough to wear seat belts to protect those unwilling to protect themselves. I feel that way no longer. FYI, the car in the avatar did not have airbags, but a 5 point harness and roll bar helped to make up for that technological shortcoming.

  31. Sweet jesus is all I can say after finally hearing my new mains on a decent amp... Hooked them up to my Marantz SR-18U and these 3's show me the true meaning of wow what have I been missing? Ive had a set of Eosone RSF1000's for the last 10 years, they are no slouches in the output department by any means, but on the same amp they were just trampled in output and put to shame in SQ! I was always skeptical about horns, not anymore. I'd heard friends klipsch mains before and always thought that they were lifeless and overly bright and then It dawned on me that most of the power they were using were cheap entry level recievers. The only reason I went with the 3's were the excellent reviews I had seen and I figured what I had heard was part of user error. I love these, and cant wait to delve into even more klipsch gear!!! Just had to share my joy! (wife rolls eyes)

  33. Fjd, so good that you're on the right side of the grass and suckin' air!! We live in a relatively 'young' metro area and I can't believe the sheer numbers of rude, selfish and inconsiderate drivers, mostly under-30 or 35. And ...unlike the dark ages when I grew up .... many are female. Interesting comments on the Yellow Pages. There was a time most of us couldn't get by without 'em, and it really wasn't that long ago. Killed off by the net. I believe all the former Baby Bells (which are mostly owned by AT&T) have sold off their Yellow Page operations to smaller operators. Guess there's still a profit margin if run by smaller player. See ya soon............

  40. To my little family! I am proud to present Samantha Mae! Born 10/21/15 at 1:57pm 6lbs 11oz. We were about to head to the hospital, and while my wife was taking a shower to get ready, she yelled my name and said the baby was coming. A few pushes later this little bundle was born...... in our bathroom Fun story to tell when she's older.

  41. Turns out the wife is more cunning than previously believed. I've been waiting to get my hands on my Wiener . . . wait . . . that doesn't sound quite right. The Wiener is a TDA3118 board designed by gmarsh on the diyAudio forum. I participated in a group buy. See http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group-buys/276508-wiener-group-buy-2-stereo-pbtl-editions-available.html Well, the much anticipated amp finally arrived from Nova Scotia a few days ago, Before I could lay eyes on it, SWMBO squirreled it away to wrap as a birthday present next week, BTW, I find myself listening to more rap lately . . . mostly at intersections, but I digress. Two can play at this game. Today Amazon delivered a 5 speed 8" drill press. Now I will be able to drill nice clean holes in the aluminum enclosure to house the Wiener, so as not to frighten ladies and small children. Before my better half laid eyes on it, it was unboxed and on the bench. The box will come in handy when I sell off one of my surplus Technics SL1500 turntables. It's always great to have an excuse to get a new tool. I'm referring to the drill press. Especially when it can be legitimately characterized as a business expense. I'm sure the IRS will find the de minimis personal use to drill a few holes in some aluminum to be acceptable. Now it's time to relax with an Odd Side Ales Bean Flicker Blonde Ale With Coffee. Enjoy the evening.

  46. Cool little car, I had one, it was the smallest car I ever owned. It was so small I could sit upright in the drivers seat and roll up the passenger window without leaning over. I don't remember what it was but something broke and I was just lucky to get the part so i fixed it and sold it.
