  1. I used to have a big cook out drinking music party every summer here at the house for the guys that worked for me. A few of the guys had never been to the house before so once they got within a block or so they just rolled down their windows and headed toward the music. The first 2 years the cops came out. The third and subsequent years we worked out a pretty fail safe system. One of my techs was friends with the police dispatcher. She'd call him once they got a complaint and sent someone. We'd turn it down till we knew they had left the area then crank it back up. Unfortunately he doesn't work for me any more so we just take our chances. I haven't had a blow out in a couple years. I think it's time to have another.

  2. Had a rare burst of energy this morning (may be the B12 drops). Took the whole system apart and its sitting on the floor. Cleaned all the surfaces including a moldy window frame, counter tops, and patch cords. Going to take 1 R2R to a local tech, and hopefully persuade Maynard to go over my 20 year old preamp. I've also ordered all new tubes for the horn monos. I also am concerned about phasing since my speaker wire (16 ga) is not clearly marked for my old eyes. I need to research color coded wire to make things easier. Got recommendations? OK enough about me. Nice mugs Gary! Love the color. Best of luck for your son Neil. Hope he finds a new career that he can enjoy. Enjoy your Sunday Gents.

  3. Yesterday I drove my son's 2008 VW Jetta from DC to Michigan. He drove a U-Haul with his life packed inside. Now to carve a new life after police work, without the pressure of needing to make split second decisions with deadly consequences, whether right or wrong. On a lighter note, I was impressed by the SQ of the Jetta's audio system. My Pono player into the auxiliary allowed me to audition the playlist in progress for the 50th reunion of the class of '67. Those great songs never sounded as good coming from the single speaker in the dash of my '62 Corvair Monza.

  4. Denise took the kids (Son and Daughter In Law) mattress shopping last night and I was enjoying myself, working on a cabinet in the shop and having a few brews and some Cabo while cranking up the tunes until I heard the door go up with her standing there: it seemed like she was yelling, couldn't really hear her but I think she said "I love you and can you turn it up, it sounds great".

  5. Sometimes I get a little loud. Especially when the wife isn't here to say "Turn it down!" Lol.

  7. Morning all, and a good Sunday to all.. Man all this talk about cops coming out to parties gets me thinking about my wild teenage years. There was this wild guy that worked at the local 7-11 around our way. He would always wear this t-shirt that had a pic of a quaalude on it (RORER 714). We called him Cpt. Quaalude! He had the best neighborhood parties. My god I think one time 1/2 of Baltimore Co. Police force was called out. I remember people would YELL out "The cops are here" and they would start running into the woods. I would think why are you running??? I would just sit there and drink.... I mean what are they going to do??? lock me up??? I was 15 lol lol..... NICE Gary Best of luck to your son Neil... That's what Dad's do. I remember my dad flew out to Seattle to come and get me. He rented a U-Haul and we drove back to Md. together. It was a tough part of my life. So do you think she was saying one thing but meant something a little different ? This too happens to me...... But The BOSS will use some type of sign language OK..... Check in later.... Got a dusting of the white stuff last night... MKP :-)

  8. I remember a little bit of my days away at college . my roomie, neighbors and I had frequent visits from the cops . it didn't help at all that we lived within hearing distance of the police station . idk WHAT we were thinking when we decided to live THERE

  9. That's exactly what she said. My wife will say exactly the same thing. Funny thing is that her facial expression doesn't match the words that I'm sure she's saying.

  10. Best of luck to your son on his new direction in life . I've never been in law enforcement so I cannot imagine having to make those kind of decisions . surely it adds up after a while .

  12. Nah. The 2 times the police came out the house directly behind me wasn't even occupied. We got pretty loud.

  13. You don’t sound stupid to me. I can’t even detect an accent in your written word. No, not an actor. Just did that one gig so i can say that i’d done it. Same friend gave an opportunity to be in The Hunt for Red October; but, I passed on that. I would have been one of the Russian sailors. Thanks for the well wishes ... not so sure about “happiness” -- that’s something that has eluded me thus far in life, so i should set my sights lower than being happy. I tell you, i really envy people that are.

  14. You just never know with people, you surely can't judge by looks. People (my wife) ask me why I talk and type like I do, well it's better to appear stupid, that way it's all uphill after that. So your an actor also, your going to have a hard time deciding who your going to be after you move. Either way I hope everything goes well with that and your happy, not much else matters. Now after you disappear you are expected to at least check in, no disappearing completely, you make everyone worry.

  15. Many years ago, i use to hang out at this pretty wild house. Most of the guys that lived there were a band. I really got along with the drummer (he introduced me to Captain Beefheart, if you know who that is). One night, they’re in the garage jamming. I tell the drummer that i’ll turn out the light and turn on this strobe light and he can do a drum solo. It wasn’t part of the song and his bandmates were going to be pissed; but, he agreed. So, we both did what we said we’d do. The singer got mad and turned on the lights. I turned to the person standing next to me and said, “that was cool.” It was a cop...on duty. He said, “Personally, i enjoyed it; but, your neighbors didn’t.”

  16. a friend once asked me if i wanted to be in a movie. Not a speaking role; but, they needed some extras. I said yes, and one of the roles was as a UCLA baseball player (the movie was about Jackie Robinson and the film began with his days in college). I was supposed to come running out of the dugout to congratulate Jackie after he scores the winning run (Jackie was played by the actor Andre Braugher). One of the extras was in the on deck circle during the shot. I don’t know what he was doing wrong; but, the director yells “CUT” and starts chewing him out big time. he is nervous and tries to hand the bat to me (i’m on the step of the dugout) and asks me to switch places with him. I looked him square in the eyes and said “heck no, i don’t know what you did wrong; but, i sure don’t want to do whatever it was that you’re doing.” If i’m going to be singled out, i’d prefer it be for something good Although that didn’t last long, the movie continues with him being in the Army, and I also played one of the Army guys. The actor/consultant Dale Dye was on the set and yelled at me during one shot because we were in formation and i wasn’t standing up straight. Embarrassing; but, i still got paid

  17. good idea -- just would have to hope that they’re prog rock fans. This lady that I know, we both had a connection to this one musician which i thought was odd; but, she had never even heard of Yes. I’m actually not a big photo/autograph guy -- i have a few; but, normally I’ll pass -- and will NOT ask--if offered, i’ll accept. I mean who am I turn them down if they’re willing? There are a few that i really like and will take advantage of the opportunity.

  18. I have no problems in social situations and sometimes like it, but do not like being the center of attention either. Once at a wedding I was handed a mic and asked to make a speech, my knees were probably shaking when everyone looked at me. But I lived, unhappily for a little while.

  22. Well there was a video of someone dancing (not me) one night with a huge mexican hat on, but besides that we usually don't hide much. Well we didn't want to say anything, but it's really a party celebrating you leaving that area and we just didn't want to bother you with all the pressure.

  24. You'll never hear The BOSS say "turn it down" In fact ya gotta watch her around the volume knob.....When were out on the deck with the EVi's and a lil Crown she always clips the amp.... I YELL at her "don't you understand that amp is running out of power and it's gonna blow one of the EV's!!" Her response is "Well we need a bigger amp" MKP :-)

  27. Thanks Chuck, I am going to get the other color mug, I ment to get two of each, they are charcoal with the same 'pine needle' design.. Test for polarity (not continuity) I always use a battery (9v suggested) and just watch the bass driver. They should thrust FORWARD, then mark your cable, at least it works for me every time.. Off to shopping and banking.......yes, my bank is open 7 days !

  33. I've found tat the quieter the noise floor is in the automobile the better the audio sounds. Normally all of them sound semi decent with the key on and engine not running but the engine and road noise usually determine more of the ultimate radio sound than the radio does.

  35. That's funny For many the start of happiness is peacefulness, and I would imagine, for me at least it would be much harder in a big nonstop city. Your health didn't help either. But that's me, you will find it, I have no doubt. After you retire/move you will have time to slow down, this will bring in other things you enjoy doing.

  36. nah -- way older than me actually. it was funny listening to her talk about climbing this balcony of a hotel to sneak into Mick Jagger’s room to steal his pillow. She did that in the 60s; but, I found it very funny and cool to listen to this now white haired woman, nearing retirement, talk about doing crazy teenager stuff like that.

  38. That’s the weird part -- i get along with most everyone too. i’m just not comfortable in many social settings (probably because i’m a nut) and I never like to be the center of attention.

  39. Sounds like you need to move somewhere where you can buy acres instead of a "lot", not in a town/city. I can get along with almost anyone, but do like a lot of the opposite in between.

  40. Thanks and that’s good -- i don’t need any more pressure. A friend was talking about some sort of goodbye event and i said they could do whatever they want as long as they schedule it for the day AFTER I leave. I was pulled aside one day and told that i should start going to lunch with people when they invite me. I got a (friendly) lecture on how they’re just trying to be friends and I keep turning down all invitations. This was the year that i was supposed to be more social--maybe next year; although that will be a challenge since i’m moving away from everyone I know.

  45. I'm not a tech guy, but here's what I've done. I'm going to use a Chorus for example. I push them hard... I'm not afraid to put the watts to em.... I'll power them with one of my Carver's.... like a TFM-42. That amp has L.E.D's... the amp is rated @375 watts into 8 ohms. I'll have those L.E.D.'s hanging @ that 375 mark. I mean putting to watts to those Chorus.. I've even had the next level of L.E.D.'s light up... that's 750 watts "HeadRoom Exhausted" If I see the yellow L.E.D. light up I'll back it off. Now the Chorus are rated @ 100 watts continuous 1000 watts peak. So as I just said I'm pounding them with 375+ watts continuous.... I might do this for a few tracks not for hours at a time. If I see the "HeadRoom Exhausted" light up then I will back it off.... So That's a 750+ watt burst going into the Chorus..... It's still with-in the specs of the Chorus but I know I have reached the HeadRoom of the amp. To my understanding a distorted signal will damage a driver... and when you have exhausted the headroom of a amp it can/will put out a distorted signal. MKP :-)

  47. A 2 inch excursion woofer is not unusual, and I'm reading there are products with 5 and 6 inch excursions. But let me be the voice of caution. If you want to play loud, you will have to pay. Finding your system's limits can get costly. Blow fuses, smoked drivers, and destroyed diaphragms/cones/ribbons are in your future. I learned this early and I don't play loud anymore, just reasonable satisfying levels. You'll hate your life when you blow an extremely expensive or irreplaceable driver. Moderation usually means your drivers will last multiple decades.
