  1. Just saw my first s3 on the road today. Mighty fine looking car. We will more than likely put our deposit down on one so that we will be inline when the lease on our 75D comes up. Not sure at this point if it would make sense to get the 3 or to re-lease the S. I haven’t read all of the pages here so I’m not sure of the rationale of the Tesla bashing. I have owned a number of BMWs a few Alfa’s. A few Mercedes and Porsche’s. None can march the build quality of the Tesla. Yes more volts will be sold but since when does that mean anything.
  2. I have read the freezer approach as well. I haven’t tried it but I think I will. Pretty sure that freezing will not harm the tubes. I do have a number of cryo treated tubes and freezing didn’t hurt them!
  3. I am probably not the Lone Ranger in this regard .....I have a number of tubes that the identifying marks have been rubbed off. On some I can breath on them (same way you would on a pair of glasses before cleaning) and the numbers are readable. On others that doesn’t work. Anyone have other ways to Id tubes that have no marks on them? thx
  4. I would say its a ribbed long plate with a square getter. I have a number of RCA 12AX7 's that have a short plate and a halo getter. I dont know enough about them to know when either of those were made or if one is considered better than the other!

    What I Got Today!

Actually it looks pretty interesting. I should transfer some old vcr tapes as well. I looked on the B&H site and it looks like the software is only for windows but in the review section someone mentioned converting to MP4. Do you know if this thing works on Macs? THX
  6. I haven’t heard this amp but I will defend the LEDs. Apparently, the green turns to amber when the power guard circuit senses clipping. Yes it may be overly dramatic but it serves the same purpose as a little red light would. I have owned both vintage and modern Mac equipment (as well as countless other makes - no not leben) and to my ears Mac is still at the front of the toboggan. From both a sound as well as build quality standpoint. So I cannot agree that the mighty has fallen. In fact I believe that the opposite is the case.
  7. Forum member William @wdecho has owned a number of pass designs and is knows a lot about the various builds
  8. This is a remarkable pre amp and performs way above the price asked! Also , it appears that this unit has been upgraded to use the 6H30 tube in place of the 6DJ8 which was the case in the original design. The 6H30 "super tube" is readily available new and is quiet and remarkable. Yes the 6DJ8 is great as well, but you may need to search for a non microphonic example. Just saying that this is a great preamp that someone should jump on!!
  9. The amp is back for sale . I am sad to do this, but I am going to limit the sale to folks who have at least 100 posts on this forum. The potential buyer revealed himself to be a flipper and while I should have figures that out , I didn’t until he asked me if I had packing materials even though I was meeting him in person to deliver the amp. He joined the day I posted the listing. So the amp is back for sale at 600bucks to actual forum members. The price will be higher if and when I post it elesewhere thanks
  10. OK I give up! Where on her website are the downloads of the Christmas Music!? I am a big fan of Rickie. And you are correct there are a few swings and misses in her releases. But you cant hit it out of the park if you dont take a swing!
  11. I believe it has been sold. Ill let you know if it falls through! Cheers Josh
  12. I bought this from forum member Greg Roberts a few years ago. It has been used sparingly in my office. I will sell it for what I paid for it. $600.00 plus shipping. It works great and sound awesome. I have too many amps and someone should be using this! Rather than take new photos, I have included the link from when I bought it.
  13. Maybe but truth is that Brady is no Montana
  14. I have a purpose built Windows based server with a NAS unit. I too use EAC to rip the CDs to the NAS. The server is connected to a Benchmark DAC3. I have used JRiver in the past for music management and tidal lossless for streaming. I have since moved to ROON and absolutely love it. Great integration of my library and tidal.
  15. Stay safe. Although I personally wasn’t effected from the wine country fires I had many friends who were evacuated for a period of time and some did lose their homes. All I got was smoke. Your amp can wait!
  16. If anyone here is interested in a pair of NEC 12AD7 tubes pm and Ill send them to you. No charge. I see them listed as a "low noise low microphonic 12AX7" But I dont know anything about them! I pulled them out of an old sony reel to reel. I am not a huge tube roller so if you want to experiment let me know! Josh

    Roon

https://youtu.be/2z1CaEvA0jw I love Roon. This video was really helpful in understanding some if the features. I have my cds stored on a NAS and the having the ability to access both my library and tidal on the same interface is really cool.

    What I Got Today!

The Marantz was 430.00 For a the full restoration I used Randy Buckner who is fantastic. He sent progress photos along the way. The MC225 was 800.00 for the full chassis re-chrome, re-lettering and full electronic restoration - new caps , power supply rebuild etc. I know that I will certainly get the return on that if I ever sell it. I bought the amp a number of years ago for a grand. Examples in the condition sell for a lot more than 1800 bucks! So I think it is money well spent!

My Mc225 back from Vintage Vacuum Audio after full restoration.
  20. I have a pair of these and they are awesome. Great Price on some awesome amps. There will be no disappointments from the purchaser of these. Josh
  21. Sounds strange to me. McIntosh is known to be easy on tubes I have owned a few and never had to replace tubes. I would venture to say that he transformer issue caused the tube failure. Of course it is possible that the tube or tubes were defective to begin with. Please let us know what you learn. If its multiple tubes that would be weird. Of all the tube amps that I have owned I have only had one that had a "tube failure". A Cary Rocket 88. The tube failed and caused a resister to explode. Thought that was strange at the time. I was told that a tube failure is different than tubes just wearing out. I guess more of a violent event. So maybe even the transformer issue was caused by a tube failure! So again inquiring minds want to hear more of what the dealer has to say!

    What I Got Today!

My champagne faced 2270 back from being completely gone through and updated. Have to say it sounds incredible. Hooked up to a pair of Dynaco a25s and it is taking me back to 1975
