  1. I bought these and they are now in my home. I think the fir cabinets are in remarkable condition for the age. They sound..........Excellent!
  2. I have had La Scala's forever. About 2 years ago I bought a pair of Cornwall's. What you here is what it is IMHO. I just don't like the Cornwall sound. The Cornwalls sit in a closet unused.
  3. I started this thread. I have since done another pair of Scalas and a Designer Heresy for my son.Getting ready to do two more pairs of Scalas. One pair for my other son (Yeah, we like La Scalas[]) and another pair for my daughter and her husband. Bondo works fine. I've used it for years on wood. Think about this, it's used on cars where the expansion/contraction is much greater than wood. The advantage is it's quick dry time, sandability,it will never crack out and it holds on so you can repair those smashed corners.
  4. Here's the link to with pics of a pair I did. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/489067.aspx

We just ran prepro's of our new 56" DLP. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the picture quality this TV has. Awesome cabinet design,Built right here in the USA.They should hit the stores in a few weeks.Worth a look.
  7. He sold these on ebay a couple of weeks ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50597&item=5760314553
  8. I never used tone controls or an equalizer until I got a Behringer DEQ2496. Now I can't listen without it. Next to my La Scala's it's the best thing I ever bought! Takes a while to figure out though.
  9. I have 76's with AA's and 83's with AL's. In the same room side by side they sound about the same. I might give a slight edge to the 83's with the "M" drivers and AL network. They are smoother sounding. Another thing is, between these two years nothing is the same! The cabinets are even completely different. Overall cabinet size is the only thing that is the same.
  10. I have an MTX home sub. It beats some of the well known brands I tried with my La Scala's.
  11. I guess I was not clear enough.Only one corner is an issue. My other corner is perfect.
  12. Going to look at/buy some Khorns. My room has one corner with only 33" from the room corner to a door opening. Is this enough?

My uncle used them with his classic rock band through out the 1970's into the early 1990's. The cabinets are black and are road worn, the bottoms of the cabinets have considerable wear , the rest of the cabinet appears ok considering the road time. Would these be ok to use as a small PA system for DJ use? Where do I start? Can I use any other speaker then the original, or would I only be wasting my time, or degrading the Klispch cabinet. My uncle was killed in a motorcycle accident several years ago, so these are kind of sentemental. Thanks for any help Michael ---------------- In my opinion La Scala's can/should only have original components.Paul Klipsch did it right ands nothing else is going to come close. It will be costly, but worth it. The necessary parts show up on Ebay frequently. Since the cabinets are black they can be brought back. See my thread on "Piano Black La Scala's". Keith
  14. The Dynaco FM1 has been going for 10 hours. Now it's time to spin some vinyl
  15. Need some help here! The Behringer manual kinda sucks. When I run auto EQ it looks like this. Does this make sense? On page 2 of the auto eq menu where should I set "max"? On page 3 of the auto eq menu where should I set "max" and max span? When do I push the "done" button? Thanks! Keith

I'm going to pick up a new matched quad of EL34s (JJ) and a Rectifier today and while I'm at it I'm going to shake the bushes at another pal of mine's shop to see if I might be able to find a couple of 7199s I can come close to matching, if I run out of luck I' might just be willing to break down and go for the RCA 7199s,...IF you have them. I appreciate the feedback everyone, this site has been a wealth of information for the kind of Hi Fi I want to be involved with. Bill Woodward ---------------- RCA's are what I use and like best in My ST70 with La Scala's. Keith
  17. Thanks for the tips! That helped a bunch.Hey,it's got a SPL Meter! Bonus. My first try at auto eq wants to boost most every frequency??
  18. RCA 7199's a little spendy but worth it. Hey I'm in Forest Grove!

What did you apply the surfacer with, a high pressure gun? With an hvlp, I can put out a lot of material with a lot less waste overspray. ---------------- That's two gallons before reduction and catalazation! Keep in mind 90% was sanded off. There is actually a lot of surface area on La Scala's. Wood is not level this means lots of block sanding. High gloss coatings require the surface to be perfectly level or you'll see every high/low spot. Sanding the surfacer inside the bass bin was a real challenge! Gun used was a Binks Mach 1 HVLP.
