  1. Congratulations on your garage sale find. A couple weeks ago, I scored some KEFs under similar circumstances. And they are quite amazing - especially the bottom end when A\Bed with the LaScalas. Back in the old college days (sigh), it was the rage to double up on the Advents and hook a pair on each side in parallel (more violins better than one big violin theory). Then get the Yes albums out. So keep an eye open for another pair and have fun looking. Hamish
  2. ditto to all the above - good ole' USA made Crown is in there for the long haul - got one that's been around for 30 years (300A) that still perks up the dog's ears Hamish
  3. - nothing like making an ash out of yourself in public - Hamish
  4. I donated last week through the American Red Cross website with a credit card. They had security features in place and emailed me back a confirmation number and thank you. Easy way to donate and God Bless those people. Hamish
  5. Just thinking about the good old days on Davie Street in Vancouver in '68, listening to tunes up at the local dealer's. Kelly DeYoung Sound I believe it was. Anyhow, there was some west coast pyschedelic band that had a tongue in cheek version of Ricky Nelson's song, 'I wonder if Louise is home'. Except in this version, Louise was rather indisposed to Owsley pharmaceuticals and wasn't able to make it to the door. The band's name was something like ' Motherhood, Apple Pie and the Flag'. Anybody else remember this or am I just hallucinating?
  6. Here, there's RF3's up front with a RC3 centre channel and 2 RS3's for rear (with an Axiom centre channel filling the rear centre) all driven by a Yamaha RX 1300 for 2 1\2 years now. The relief concerts the other night sounded amazing. The Yammie has proven to be dependable and does everything I want it to do. Good luck in your choice. Hamish
  7. Achtermachtie? Wear the fox hat!
  8. this little votey thingy is cute. hereseys are in the front parlour. the rf3 ht system is in the living room. up here in the attic are the cornwalls, lascalas and the value village KEF's that i found a couple weeks ago
  9. We were into a Value Village on Monday and I saw these heavy large walnut veneered speakers with a gaudy '60's grill cloth. Two other guys were circling around like vultures watching over my shoulder as I checked them out. I tipped one to look at the back and saw a good dual banana plug connector and figured these could be something. On removing the grill which was velcroed on, I found an oval woofer which told me that these were KEF drivers. They have the T27 tweeter, the B110 midrange and the very interesting B139 oval shaped woofers. Then I had to wait for Paddy to wander down to my end of the store and go out and get a shopping cart, as the other guys were pretending to look at stuff just waiting for me to leave them even for a second. Finally Paddy showed up, I slugged them into the cart, through the cash and out to the car. So the setup is similar to the KEF Cantatas, but this is a much larger Heathkit version from the early '70's. I got them for $47.50 ($20 each plus tax) and brought them home and tested them with some old gear. On removing the gaudy grill cloth, I found the original black still underneath in excellent shape only with the logos missing. So a light sanding and some tung oil should brighten them up. With the old gear, they sound surprisingly nice and really reach down to the bottom. I used to have different KEF's before I got my first Heresy's and still use their B200 12" drivers in my two subs. When I get a chance to play around a little more, I might try them with both subs as a two channel setup. Anyway, it's always nice to hear someone here finding a little gem now and then. I guess this was my turn. Hamish
  10. This is a duplicate posting of one that accidentally got stuck in ipods ifi. I saw these on the weekend and thought I would pass this on. I was in a pawn shop in Southern Ontario on the weekend and there's two pairs of cherry RF-7's still new in the boxes. The sales associate said they were liquidation stock from a local dealership and they had to clear a two week time frame before they could be sold. The asking price is going to be $1800 Canadian but I imagine there would be a dicker factor. Anyhow, if anyone is interested, email me and I'll send you the contact info. I have no affiliation with the seller. hamish

  12. Fun thread you started here, Garymd. "Hey Joe" - with over 900 renditions - purported to be originally done by the Leaves, then Love, Hendrix, etc and etc. I've got 54 versions. My favourite interpretation is by Patti Smith. Here's a copy and paste link http://www.heyjoe.org/
  13. ditto to '63 to '73 - just thinking, those were also the supremo muscle car years - wonder if there's a connection. Hamish
