  1. 15-year-old Glendronach . A very good single malt IMO! Nice Heresy. What are those little speakers?
  2. "If you want the most bang for the buck, buy used heritage for your speakers." Sound advice!
  3. Go to the "Speaker Wire" link at the following web site for an objective look at the speaker wire debate. http://www.roger-russell.com/
  4. If the KG4s are in mint condition, the $315 including shipping is not too bad of a price, especially considering you would be done looking for a pair. I bought my KG4s new in 1985 and choose them over the Heresys because of the lower base response and because they were about $250 less than the Heresys as I recall. I was really impressed with the passive sub. The KG4s really rocked my little apartment I had at the time!
  5. Congratulations on your new Heresy's; Condolences on your new "Klipsch disease" Here is my prediction: Before too long, you will be looking for a vertical Cornwall for your center (turned on it's side of course, mounted above your HDTV). You'll move both Heresy's to the rear. I've been in your exact situation, and it is inevitable.
  6. Tommy, The vintage HKX30's are nice receivers. I have two 430s and a 630 myself. I see you are from Plano. I'm in Grapevine and I'm tentatively planning on having a DFW Hornheads get together one Saturday or Sunday in late July or early August. Let me know if you are interested in that event. Since you were asking about the derived center on another thread, I can let you hear how the derived center sounds using two HK430s and three Cornwalls. David
  7. Eliminating multiple user names is a good move IMO. Hopefully, it will curtail much of the antagonistic behavior.
  8. If you are wanting a derived center channel, you can build a PWK style minibox, pick up another vintage HKx30 and run the center through one channel, and you will have it. There are diagrams on this board for the derived center. The question is this, will the derived center improve your listening pleasure? You will have to try it to find out! I've built two of the miniboxes, one for me (for use with three Cornwalls), and one for my brother (who is using a Cornwall between two K-horns). For some music the derived center seems to improve the imaging, especially in his system where his speakers are farther apart. Take a look at this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=9992&sessionID={4ADE8471-70F1-4375-BEA1-8117BB7BEEBA}
  9. 2.5 pairs for me. Three across the front in the HT and a pair in the living room. I wish I had the space in the HT room for a pair of Cornwall rears; I had to settle with Heresy's (but I'm not complaining!).

  12. AudioFlynn, That Scott 299D NOSValves rebuild is at my house now! I came home after work one evening last week and it was sitting in a FedEx box on my doorstep. My brother Audiodad took it home from Indy and tried it out for about three minutes before deciding it didnt have enough power to satisfy his need to shake the walls. He said it didnt have enough headroom, so he is going to stay with the high-powered SS for his K-horns. I am using the 299D with my 79 Cornwalls and I am very pleased. I usually listen at only about 90dB, and it has plenty of headroom from there. I really like the imaging and smoothness. Craig did a nice job on this amp (Oops, am I allowed to give unsolicited praise for a service provider on this forum? I hope it doesnt start a flame war). This is my first tube amp and I think I'm hooked. Ive been staying up much too late every night listening. Ive been experimenting with the derived center channel using a vertical Cornwall (turned on the side on top of my HDTV). With the center speaker going, there seems to be a slight overall decrease in the bass, but since the center speaker is 5 feet off the floor, the highs and mids have excellent definition everywhere in the room (and in other rooms). When I get more time to experiment, I will do some comparisons with my vintage SS HK430, HK630, and Scott 382-B. David

    Tommy - SACD

"Hey, it's great to know I'm not the only GEEZER here, Seadog!" I resemble that statement!

    " It rivals Steely Dan's "Gaucho." " I'm sold!
  15. If he was pouring Damon's beer, he would get a couple more down with no problem
  16. I have the HK505 integrated (built around 1980). It is 60 WPC and it really brings out the bass from my Cornwalls while maintaining high end detail. But I still like the sound of the HK430 and HK630 a little better. Those old receivers match up well with Klipsch Heritage.

    Tommy - SACD

I had Tommy on 8-track in HS. Maybe I'll pick up the SACD. Is it 2-channel or did they trick it up with 5.1?
  18. I'm using the dual prong banana plug scenario to switch my three Cornwalls (R,L, and Center) between 2-channel and HT. It's very reliable with no potential problems from poor contacts in a cheaply-built switch box. However, I'd try a good switch box if I could find one. Maybe I'll look for the Niles unit that GaryMD mentioned.
  19. That's my left eye and part of my forehead behind and right of LarryClare. Next year I'll jump up right before the photo is snapped!
  20. Got mine on the Indy trip and it is proudly displayed on the front of my black decorator vertical Cornwall. Looks great.
  21. Trey, Good shots. Thanks for posting them. Any more??? David Edit: never mind. I didn't see the other threads until after this post.
  22. I stopped by the nearest RS on my way home from work today. They were out of stock on the $14 unit, but their computer said two stores within 10 miles had stock, 3 at one, 2 at the other. I'm going by tomorrow. I really want to check a $14 meter against a professional unit to see how it compares. We have calibrated SPL meters where I work that cost over $1500. I'll post my comparison results if I can find the $14 meter.
  23. That's the best find that I've heard of in a very long time. Congratulations. Fair warning however, the Klipsch bug may bite you, and the only cure is more Klipsch.
  24. I bought a DD5.1 decoder box this year. Does that count? Of my 4 pairs of Klipsch, I bought one pair at MSRP at an authorized dealer, 19 years ago. But I have had friends buy Klipsch after visiting my house. As for the value of the Forum to the company in terms of increased sales, that would be hard to determine, but I would say that generally the Forum and its members are a plus for Klipsch. I was in Ultimate Electronics just last Thursday and I walked into a HT room where a customer was auditioning the RF-35 HT system and a Def Tech set up. The salesman was struggling to help the guy make a buy decision on either system and the customer really seemed confused. I struck up a conversation with the customer, a total stranger to me, and told him that I was a Klipsch owner. I then ask the salesman to repeat the comparison and I asked the customer to listen carefully to the dialog (the movie was X-Men 2). Of course the clarity was better with the Klipsch. Then we listened to some music (SRV). Before I left, the salesman had closed the sale on the Klipsch system and a Denon HT receiver. Maybe the guy would have bought Klipsch even if I had not butted in, but I felt like I was helping him.
