  1. Now that's a thread title. Pine for an armboard...nobody uses soft woods for amrboards. Stiff and hard just like the twins like it. I don't really know why but it is true. People seem to like Ebony #1. I will trust the everybodies in this case and steer clear of soft wood arm boards. Does the Ariston have a two piece platter? In other words, an inner platter that has the spindle and an outer platter that sits on the inner. If so, are you sure you have the outer platter properly placed on the inner platter? There's no goo, funk, metal burrs where the two platters meet? I wait for you answer before going further.
  2. Ok, but not untilyou help me out in this thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/100082.aspx Martin, Man, if you would have titled that thread something like "Ariston Audio turntable", I might have jumped in. Sorry, but reading stuff about the twins just makes me jealous so I steer clear. That wobbly platter doesn't sound good and pine for an armboard, you could probably do better. I'll go back to your Suspense thread now that I know what it's about. Is this Craiglisted Elac near you?
  3. Ok, this being the 2 channel forum, I am confused. What are you trying to do? Are you listening to two channel stereo? Are these amps 5 channel amps? Or two channel amps? Hooking up two speakers to one channel and putting one in front and one in rear as a surround is not what you want to be doing.
  4. From a user's standpoint, it's overpriced at $150.00. From a collector's standpoint, $150 is reasoanble given he has original boxes and manuals and it appears to be in fine shape. They're good turntables, but not great. If you play a lot of 78 speeds, it's nice to have. Snarled mess of gears and gadgets underneath. If something stops working, it's not all that easy to figure out. I collect vintage turntables and I would pay $150 for it. If you don't buy it, I might have Thebes go run this one down for me.
  5. That's a great diagram Wrangler. Now put that footprint on your floor and bring it up 52" tall and you can get an idea of the size. Belles are about 30" wide, 19" deep and 36" tall.
  6. Oh no, I hope the Crown cronies don't read this.[]
  7. Overboard? Most normal people would say yes. You really should make some carboard "mock-ups" of the speakers or at the very least, tape off the L X W on the floor. These heritage speakers are large. Often larger in person than one imagines. Khorns sometimes shrink(to the eye) when snugged into the corner but not always. Not trying to turn you off, I have Khorns, Shorthorns and until recently, La Scalas. Love them all but they are big fellas.
  8. I'm confused. How does the writer's strike make you busier than usual? I would have thought it be the opposite.
  9. Based on the answers thus far, I don't think anybody's going to say one is better than the other. Since you're rebuilding crossovers, go with whichever one has the more favorable grill cloth and logo to you.
  10. That's funny. It's still at the funny stage. I am not hiding hi fi equipment under my pillow yet! josh If it does get beyond the funny stage, at least cartridges are easier to hide than speakers! Look forward to hearing what you think of the 103R and Zu. I'm think about trying a Shelter of some sort this year. My dynavector 20XH is getting some long hours on it and my turntable could probably use a step up from that anyway.
  11. The marketing department had exactly zero say in the design of the Palladium line. All the development that went into it came from the engineering center downstairs (Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, Acoustic Engineering, etc). And a little help from BMW, which is probably why it's so purty. "Having worked in conjunction with BMW Group DesignworksUSA—a global design consultancy that has done projects for BMW Group vehicles as well as other premium brands—Klipsch was able to make the P-39F a truly unique and elite statement piece. "
  12. Direct labor does average around 5% to 11%. However there is indirect labor that averages around 25% to 40%. Indirect labor includes, breaks, lunch time, paid holidays, paid vacation. Also any shop floor supervisors that don't work directly on any one product are indirect labor.
  13. Something about that Flint MI area. Seems there's always a dealer up there with some Heritage. Now the test will be to see if somebody actually buys them.
  14. If you're sure now it's not your preamp, that's what I would do. Connect one probe on the little cartridge wire and the other probe on the correspoing internconnect. No to low resistance means that tonearm wire is ok. Usually, White is left channel, blue is left channel ground, Red is right channel and green is right channel ground. Could just be dirty connections. Turntables are funny that way. Make sure all the little cartridge connectors are clean and tight to the cartridge pins.
  15. Darn wood workers.... I'm jealous of your skills, your cool tools and your darn neat work shops.
  16. Can you describe that in more detail? I'm a bit confused by your description. I too had been told that Linn's in particular, sound best on a light shelf or table. The best my LP12 ever sounded was when I placed it on a cheap, light weight Ikea ,"Lack" as it was called, end table. My room was forced to change a bit but I've been trying to get back to the light weight table for my LP12.
  17. So you can't afford the Klipsch products that are made in the U.S.A.? A light bulb should be going on about now.
  18. Congratulations. But I am REALLY interested in hearing about how you got a pair of Khorns out of the attic? Or how they got into the attic to begin with?! Khorn moving stories are the best.
  19. Thanks! I ordered right after checking the thread to see if they would fit my ears, and it looks like they will. Custom 2s are coming my way!...plus another pair for my brother...then some Custom 1s for my sister =D Nice Fud, splugining on you and your bro' and cheapin' out on your sister. I'm looking forward to when those 3's are ready. I'll be right there, ready and waiting to order.
  20. And remember, everybody here thinks they're latest upgrade, be it tweeters, caps, crossovers, whatever, is the greatest. Me included. So how is your bass? Do you have good corners for these Khorns? Getting them snug in the corner and sealing the tailboard can be a very good thing to do!
