  1. I use a cable that RS sells. It has RCA on 1 side and 1/4" on the other. I would steer clear of using adapters. There's just more room for loss of connection there.
  2. I remember Tom Brennan well. As fledgling as I was, I could tell this guy was chunking hash. As he berated LaScalas and Heresies (ranking Heresies as a 2 out of 10 - the worst, chainsaw screechers he ever heard in his 30 years of audiophile authority), I happened upon his posts in another forum touting the Heresies he owned as the most wonderful sounding speakers of their class - bar none. Hence, my avatar of choice, with many thanks to NosValves for giving me the best laugh I ever had on this forum. We haven't seen Mr. Brennan around much since then. [] Too bad, we could have been friends!
  3. Hey, thanks, Fish! I consider the bashing to be a little "brotherly love." I'm the youngest of 5, and consequently had to learn how to take it. There was this one fellow who was banned. I forget his name. But he took it out real hard on a guy for whining about a sub problem or something and speaking in terms of class actions. That was rough! For all y'alls poking fun, etc., I wouldn't trade it for a million bucks! Well, wait a minute..... []
  4. I must have missed the "treatment" given to newbies. I've seen many a nice, succinct response, followed or preceded by, "Welcome!" In any event, I think the newbies also deserve to know all our combined and disparate opinions regarding the questions they ask. Otherwise, they'd all buy Crown amps. []
  5. I don't know about that grill issue. My Corns always sounded great. Over time, the sound punched away at the cane fabric and left it a little thinner where the sound comes out - no lie! Now, that's rockin'!
  6. Moot, as in something has changed and there is no more issue. Like when a patient dies, the issue of whether to pull the plug becomes moot. Back on topic, the LaScalas are great speakers. That's how I was introduced to Klipsch. I agree the Khorns go deeper, but I would find it surprising, or disingenuous, to hear somebody say the LaScalas are not truly awesome speakers. If you have Khorns, good for you, but it does not mean LaScalas are utterly lacking and not a good choice. As far as well-rounded, I think the Cornwalls are more well-rounded than LaScalas in their sound mix. Who said the bass is too much and sounds unrealistic. Wrong! The bass in Cornwalls is superb! I still think Cornwalls are, by far, the best bang for the buck. I'd take LaScalas at a good price anyday, but I'd factor in size and placement of those beasts.
  7. Jacob, I thought the amps were Definitive. Maybe not. He'll remember them, though. They were a set of rackable amps w/silver faceplates and meters. We hooked one of them up to my Khorns.
  8. Ah..... "The right thing to do." Every time I hear it, I get the little, warm fuzzies all over again. WRONG!!!!!! You can't dictate actions to be based on "the right thing to do." Just imagine what that might possibly be. Heck, let's just get rid off all the law books altogether and have one (1) law: "Thou shalt do the right thing." Now, I understand, from those who said it, that it makes you feel good to have done what you THINK is the right thing. But imagine the millions of people out there, all with different opinions, tastes, priorities, and tell me how, when you do something like set a price on speakers, you can do the right thing by them all? You can't, so forget about "the right thing," and just keep doing what you think is right if that's what makes you feel good. Yep, I too will pass the ability to take advantage from time to time. However, I definitely do not run around trying to save people from what I THINK might be their mistakes. What if it is NOT a mistake, but you just gave them reason to say "You know what? Now that you mention it, I bet I could get more for these." Then, Instead of calling you "nice," "dumb" might be more appropriate. I bought my KHorns for $1700 used and in very good shape (except the grills). I've seen where people paid $3,000 for used Khorns. Having seen that, am I supposed to tell the seller, "You know? You might be ignorant of what these are worth. I've seen people pay $3,000 for them. Do you still want to take my $1700 offer?" Who does that? Good Luck! BTW: Anyone want to venture why our laws do not give people an "out" from their agreements because of their ignorance (excepting children and the insane)? If you think long enough about that, you will understand.
  9. You ought ask Put if he still has one of those Definitive amps there. I think he had about 4 or 5. If you could pick up one of those, you'd be doing good.
  10. I see no problem with it at all. In an arms' length transaction, whatever a person wants to sell for is their prerogative - no matter whether ignorance drives the bargain or not. Just try to write a law for your moral highground and see what you get. Something, like maybe... "No party to a contract shall ever ask for or receive a price he or she should know is most likely only attainable from an ignorant seller or buyer." Then what? Lawsuits over what constitutes "should know," "most likely" and "ignorant." If you like that law, then we'd need another one that says "No party to a contract shall ever offer or pay a price he or she should know is too high but for his or her ignorance." That would be a great law! I'd gets lots of business. []
  11. Decorators are alright. If you like decorators, then, those copper-colored cones ought to really do it for you.
  12. I'm waiting on a response from the seller to tell me how much he wants for them. If I get them, fine. If I don't, fine. Either way. That's what I like about not being in a hurry for them. I have so much else going on.... I have a house to destroy! []
  13. Actually, I've been ripping out sheetrock for an entire 23x16 room, ripping down a wall, running new electric, installing some can lights, and installing insulation. Want to join me? The only thing that doesn't suck is the vacuum cleaner. Just kidding. I enjoy it. I might grab some Heresies, though. There's 3 matching pairs. Hmmmmm....
  14. Don't know, but they are Heresy I's. I think I got the idea as to pricing. Thanks.
  15. What's a decent used price to expect for a pair of Heresies in very good, but not mint, condition? Assume quick sale price but not a fire sale. Thanks.
  16. Thanks for the info, especially with the center channel issue.
  17. Yeah, Craig, we've kind of missed you lately. Glad to hear it's been figured out, and your dad's on the road to recovery.
  18. I remember the old days when my room was full of LP's. They sounded good. Do CD's sound as good? I never really compared. It's not like I have a compulsion to go back and compare cymbal crashes. CD's sound good enough. If LP's sound better, so what? CD's - smaller, cheaper, more durable, re-writable, more common, no flipping sides, players allow skipping songs and fast forward, most come with remotes. Need I say more? It's hard to give up such convenience because you can go to an LP and hear a cymbal crash that just sounds more "real." They certainly sound far from "un-real" on CD's. In fact, they're good enough when you want all the conveniences of modern technology. Of course, the same goes for all other aspects of music beyond cymbal crashes...
  19. So, Chris, assuming you're not Panasonic's attorney, tell me more about the sound quality of that Panasonic you recommended. Coincidentally, Dean mentioned the SA XR70, which caught my attention since you rarely hear a mention of Panasonic around here. What I am after is econo-grade, very decent HT with the ability to listen to stereo and still have some good punch. Will this do that?
