  1. I just wish there was still a record store in this area! When I first moved here some 18 years ago, there was no less than FOUR record stores - three in the mall and a small, independent one downtown. All of them are now gone. There was another one up in DC that I used to like to go to all the time, but alas, it is also gone. The only place to get CDs/records around here is in places like Best Buy or Walmart. Unfortuantly, those places typically don't carry the music that I am interested in (mostly sticking to the big mainstream artists from the major labels). Perhaps (and I've been wanting to do this anyway), in the spirit of "Record Store Day" I'll go order a few albums from Nightmare Records, which is a small, independently owned label. Basically a one-man shop. I just so happen to be really good friends with the owner, Lance King and will do anything I can to support him. It is the next cloest thing to the small, independent record store itself. I've been wanting to get the new Mindflow album anyway (plus he still owes me a copy of the new Seventh Wonder album as well - will have to bug him about that one [6]).
  2. Roof antenna and just get that over the air. Even though I have DirecTV, I never bothered with getting the local channels or any of the sports packages as I am able to get everything I am interested in just fine (and in full HD) with my TV antenna up on the roof.
  3. That was pretty cool! Shows you just how many people are behind the space shuttle program. Do hate to see it end. Seems they are going with something more "conventional" as a replacement (more akin to the old Saturn/Apollo space capsule type thing). Anyway, here is my little tribute to the space shuttle program:
  4. Here is another one that I'll have to use as a reference disk Hand - Deadroom Journal: Especially track #5 - "Birth". The piano and the vocals sound just so incredible on here. This album is really very nice recorded. Clean and very detailed. It does not sound like it even uses any compression on there.
  5. Me, nothing like cranking up some power metal while working out! Everything from Helloween to Iron Mask to Winter's Bane! Hard, heavy, fast, and loud!
  6. That is the issue. Klipsch wants proof that they have indeed been bought from a reputable dealer. From my own experience, Klipsch does indeed stand behind thier product (and hope they continue to do so even after all this Audiovox business). Do what "USNRET" said. If you can't find the original reciept, perhaps a credit card statement or bank statement (at least my bank will go back a year in history showing all my transactions). For me, for any large or expensive purchase, I tend to hang on receipts, and it has save my *** a few times as a result, including an expensive DVD player/recorder going south that Pioneer repaired for free (I was able to produce a receipt to show proof were I got it - Tweeters before they went out of business. This was one of those high-end units with the built-in harddrive) Sorry that you are having issues with your headphones, though.
  7. I don't wear earphones while riding a bike outside or while skiing. I really need to hear what is going on around me (plus not allowed to wear earphones while on ski patrol duty anyway). Maybe if you are trail riding way out in the boonies is one thing, but definitly not while riding on roads with other traffic (plus it may even be illegal) That being said, I also have to agree with the S4/S4i (the "i" variant has the integrated remote for iPods/iPhones). I use the S4s myself for working out at the gym and they do stay in place. The "insert upside-down and route wire over the back of the ear" thing does work and that is how I use them while working out. Plus, at only $80/pair, they are fairly inexpensive, but sound friggan incredible for such a relatively inexpensive headphone (I'd be willling to put these up against others that cost twice as much in terms of sound quality).
  8. This is a Denon AVR3802 Receiver that I am using as a pre/pro in front of a B&K 7-channel 200 watt/channel amp (Reference 200.7). As far as I am aware, only Denon recievers have this feature. They do call it A and B surrounds. The "A" surrunds will output through the pre-outs so I can power the RF-5s via the B&K. However, the "B" surrounds, I have to power them through the reciever's internal amp. I would imagine that you could replicate this using a speaker selector device (such as something like this), but at least the Denon saves which surround you are using with the input mode, thus when I switch to TV, it automatically switches to the RS-7s, but when I switch to CD, it will automatically switch to the RF-5s. It will a feature that I will miss when it comes time for me to upgrade the thing as I'd like to get a dedicated pre/pro (plus this particular Denon is really getting long in the tooth - had the thing going on 8 years now, and would like to get something that can take advantage of the new HD surround formats). I'll probably end up having to get a speaker selector in order to keep being able to switch the surrounds (and a second two-channel amp for the second set of surrounds).
  9. Same here. I also got RF-7 fronts and RF-5s for surround. In addition, I still got RS-7 for second set of surrounds. Admittedly, that is one nice thing about the Denon that I currently have is that I can hook up "A" surrounds (the RF-5s) and "B" surrounds (the RS-7s). Thus when listening to music, I can switch to the RF-5s, but for watching TV or movies, I can switch to the RS-7s. Got the best of both worlds there! []
  10. This is pretty much my bike right here. [] May not be as exciting as those rides I see above, but still... I did take for a nice ride earlier today, though.
  11. I am not completely ruling out the possibility to go. I'll have to see how it is going with work and if I can indeed swing the time off (does not help that this is coming up on a project deadline as well). I'll let you know. Thanks
  12. I would also have to jump on the "RF-7" bandwagon if you are looking for something other than Heritage. I have listen to many a Heritage rig, with some nice applification, and I still find myself incredibly impressed with my own RF-7 and B&K rig, even after some 8 years of ownership. Yeah, Jubilees would be friggan sweet, if you have the room for them and the $10K or so it would take to get everything you need (including the speakers themselves) to get them to properly work and sound the best. You can certainly find RF-7s on the second market for less than the $1,500 budget that you mentioned. Other than that, the brand-new RF-7 IIs are really nice. I'd still like to hear a pair myself (especially compared to the 'classic' RF-7s like I have).
  13. I really want to go, but as it stands, I honostly don't know if I can make it this year. [:'(] Two-fold reason is that I have practically no vacation time left (I pretty much used it up from taking nearly the entire month of February off to go skiing out west), and what little I have, I will need to save to go to my cousin's wedding in Wisconsin (my old home town of Beloit) near the end of July. In addition, if this was in Indy, I'd be much more inclined to go, but after last year's fiasco that I went through with Delta trying to get to Hope, I just don't want hassle with it again (you know, the ol' "Once bitten, twice shy" thing?). It would be nice to fly into Chicago or something and then road trip with someone, but that would require even more time off that I just don't have right now.
  14. I would be up to going down there. Richmond is only 45 minutes away (depending on just WHERE in Richmond this is) I'd love to check out this new rig myself.
  15. Hard to believe it is nearly 11 years since I've joined this thing! I bought these RF-7s back in April of 2002. Before that I just had a set of ProMedia (the original reason I joined, as I had a question about them). Even after 8 years of having these RF-7s, I am still absolutely blown away at just how good these things sound, especially with the B&K amp.
  16. For the cabinets, use warm soapy water, using a mild detergent, and try to clean them. Basically like you would for any piece of nice furniture. As for the drivers themselves, the same may also work, but use a bit more care to avoid damage. For the grills, try to vacuum them if possible. For the stubborn stains, maybe also the warm soapy water as well and then let them airdry. Perhaps hit them with a little bit of Fabreeze as well. Also may not hurt to spritz a little bit of Fabreeze into the rear port as well. Perhaps the dryer sheets thing will also work (certainly does not hurt to try). I had a computer that I "inherited" from a smoker and that thing stunk to high heaven. I was able to clean the case using the warm soapy water as mentioned above. Never thought about the leaving it out in the sun for a couple of hours thing and let the UV breakdown the nicotine. That is actually a pretty good idea. Just make sure that also does not mess up the finish on the speakers though, although it may be worth it to at least try with the grills or even to take the drivers out of the cabinet and leave them out in the sun, but no more than a couple of hours at a time.
  17. I have a couple of the AWR-650 rock speakers on my back deck, with a Denon DRA-397 two-channel reciever supplying the juice. Do they sound as good as my "big" RF-7 setup with B&K amplification? Hell no, but for an outdoor rig, it actually sounds quite good. I may considering adding an outdoor sub as well to give it some more low end, but don't want to be "thumping the woofaz" like some punk-*** kid riding around in some POS ricer-mobile. Plus, they seem to hold up quite well, even in the snow []
  18. Pandora Radio is nice. Since I got my Verizon iPhone, I've been using it quite a bit at work (I just have an iPod dock attached to my little Tivoli Audio rig in my office). The ads sometimes get annoying, but at least they aer few and far between. To bad the iOS app doesn't support streaming the "high quality" version, otherwise, I may consider signing up the paid service. If the ads start to get really annoying, than I may consider the paid service just so not have to listen to any ads.
  19. At least I am not the only one that likes to play Euchre. That definely seems to be a midwestern things since nobody here in Virginia seems to know how to play (or even now what it is). Also, love to play Spades. Seems like that one is a popular one in the Army. Still thought it was funny when I used to work at the airport in Columbus, OH during the summers between semesters. On the graveyard shift there was really not much to do after the last flights came in for the evening so we sit around and play cards. Those guys figured this kid (since I was only about 19 or so at the time) did not know anything about Euchre. Well, it did not take to many hands to prove them wrong. [] I'll have to go check this out.
  20. Now, if I can figure out how to get there without the fiasco like last year. [:|] As to bands to play there, well, if you want to hear a prog metal band, I may be able to ask around. Beyond that, I don't have any real "inside" info on bands.
  21. I personally voted for Indy as it is much more easier for me to get there, especially after that fiasco that I went through last year trying to get to Hope. [st][ap][:@] If it goes to Hope, mybe I can fly to something like Chicago, Dallas or Detriot (where I can get direct flights to) and then road-trip it with somebody.
  22. I got to see the game at a Superbowl party that one of the bars was hosting here at Park City. I paid only $15 and that included an all-you-can eat buffet (had some AWESOME wings there). As much as I was a Steeler's fan (and it they were playing any other team, I would've been rooting for them until my voice went hoarse), but I had to go for the motherland, and that was Wisconsin. Needless to say, I was excited to see the Packs win this one. It was an awesome game, but to bad that half-time show blew major chunks, though (needless to say, I am NOT a fan of Black Eye Peas). If I was watching the game at home, that $#!+ would've been muted out in a heartbeat and I would've put on some "real" music.
  23. Maybe have the guy bring his amp and hook up to your bells. That way, he'll get to hear a pair of bells using his own amplification.
  24. I'll have to let you know. Hopefully, by that time, spring will be well on its way (although it will suck that the skiing will be pretty much over), so would be cool to check out the new rig.
