  1. killerbee, As Gil and Mike mentioned already, these LaScalas look slightly modified w/trim or banding on the edges. Mine have rounded trim around the HF section only (exposed plywood edges around the woofer box) as I have seen w/ all LaScalas that came w/ factory grilles. The trim around your HF section appears squared. All of the LaScalas w/o factory grilles (designer?) that I have seen have a "Klipsch" logo plate right below the squawker which yours do not show. Possibly your logo plates were just removed or maybe they originally had grilles w/ logos in which case the velcro patches that hold the grille in place have been removed as well. Look on the back of your speakers and post the type and serial # of your speakers. Although I'm a little bit younger that Gil ...I too think they look pretty nice in that "old man brown" Dave
  2. clueless, The Cure are one of my all time favorites...I think I have 16 of their cds. I went to see them in concert a couple of times and what's really VERY SCARY...is I did have the appropriate heavy eye liner! Happy to report I have NO pictures! Dave
  3. Raven, Nice set-up! I noticed a familiar trophy/award on top of your equipment rack...do you work in the film/video production industry? Dave
  4. Lol Cluless! ...you forgot the Honey Wagon Driver's Super-Caja-Frajolistic Cut w/ the virtual 3-D mono track. Dave
  5. "Scooby-Doo" Cartoon Series Credits: Music Supervision: La La Productions Musical Director: Ted Nichols Music Editor: Joe Sandusky The Matthew Sweet version of "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" appeared on a CD collection of Saturday morning cartoon theme song covers called "Saturday Morning/Cartoons Greatest Hits". This collection was released in 1995 on MCA and features such bands as Collective Soul, The Butthole Surfers, Ramones, Violent Femmes, Reverend Horton Heat, Toadies, etc... My personal fav Sublime performing "Hong Kong Phooey". Now that I have pulled out this CD my 4 yr. old is pleading w/ me to play "Spiderman" (Ramones) on the big speakers (La Scalas). Somewhere up there I hope Joey Ramone is smiling. Dave
  6. Do the pops always occur at the same place on these disks or is it more random? I have a small beer keg refridgerator plugged into the same circuit (not the same outlet) as my HT system...when the compressor kicks in I get a small pop from my sub. Possibly you have something plugged into the same circuit that's causing a problem. Dave
  7. Mike, Welcome to the world of fully horn loaded Klipsch! Congrats on the great deal you found...but especially on the fortune of finding someone who will refinish your LaScalas w/ the kind of care, knowledge, and skill that someone like Q-Man brings to the table. Good Luck! Dave
  8. Justin, Did you notice when you watched Brightman's "La Luna" concert DVD that Josh Groban sang the duet w/ Sara that Andrea Bochelli has recorded w/ her? Dave
  9. You should definately inspect these speakers before you make a deal. The "M" in the KM-4 designation stands for military. There is a good chance these speakers were bought overseas on a military base and therfore have been shipped at least once. I believe these speakers are the same as KG-3.5. If these speakers are in perfect shape...it is a fair deal...if they are a bit beaten up...I'd pass. Good Luck Dave
  10. Mike, Glad Colin was able to check those out for you. Are you going to try to bid on them? If so good luck! As for the xovers...well...I've heard all the same comments. I'm not knowledgable enough to talk about xover design but I will say the type AL seems overly complicated compared to some of the others I've seen. If you do end up buying these speakers I wouldn't make any immediate plans for changing out the xovers. You'll need to listen to them for a long while so that you be able to appreciate any future upgrade. In fact I'll bet it takes you alittle time to get used to the sound of the LaScalas since you've been listening to Chorus and Cornwalls I believe. The LaScalas will not go anywhere near as low but...You will eventually notice the very tight mid/upper bass. When a well recorded kicked drum is played through my LaScalas, it can feel like someone's hitting my chest Good Luck Dave
  11. Mike Lindsey, I live 20 mins from Pompano, I own '84 LaScalas w/ the same xovers and grille cloth. I would be happy to drive up and take a look/listen at these speakers for you tomorrow (Sun.). Let me know ASAP if you are interested. Dave Ungurait DLUngurait@aol.com (954) 434-4586
  12. "All of this after he was booed offstage numerous times as a lead-in band on his first U.S.A. tour..." Yeah, those hardcore "Monkeys" fans could be brutal! Dave
  13. Isn't that Conan O'Brien?
  14. "The Exorcist"...I had nightmares for weeks! I love split pea soup, but I couldn't force myself to eat it again for a couple of years. Dave
  15. Frans, Although shipping would be difficult/expensive for you...You could just send your bad xover to Klipsch (make sure you call 1-800-KLIPSCH first and get an Authorization #) and they will replace any/all parts not up to spec for around $150 US. Good Luck Dave
  16. Upon hearing this sad news I polished up my LaScalas paying particular attention to the small brass name-plates. I then chose Copeland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" and I cranked it up loud. While listening I felt humbled by PWK's honesty, intelligence, and integrity which will live on in all our homes.
  17. CONGRATS MAX! A true treasure...Your world has changed. Dave
  18. So how do you say..."I'm sorry for being a snobish insensitive @ss...Please forgive me"... in French?
  19. Congrats on your purchase! Steely Dan's "Gaslight Ally" impresses all my friends.
  20. ellisfsu, Since you are obviously a Nole fan like myself, I just have to offer you a different alt. blues tip. G LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE Three piece (guitar, stand-up bass, & a very simple drum kit) group that performs blues w/ a sort of funky Hip Hop feel. Not your traditional blues outfit by a longstrech, but very cool. Currently one of there first songs "I Like Cold Beverages" is being used for a Coors Light commercial...Great Tune! I recommend their self titled debut as it is by far my favorite of the three CD's of their's that I own. Dave GO NOLES!
  21. Justin, I too am a Sarah Brightman fan. In fact my wife and I were in the audience of the performance of "La Luna" that was recorded for this video...listen for us applauding in the right rear channel. One of my industry buddies was the Jimmy Jib Op on the shoot that performed alot of the dynamic sweeping shots over the audience and Ms. Brightman<. It was a truely beautiful show...part concert, part theater...as entertaining visually as it was sonically. Sadly I have not watched this on [bR>DVD...yet Dave
  22. That is a VERY good deal. The LaScalas alone at that price are a steal...GO FOR IT! Dave
  23. Alan, I think I could live quite comfortably in that room..what's rent? Dave PS: Thanks for sharing the pics!
  24. mdeneen, "I think you can get a mic for that spectrum analyzer that doesn't have to be the original equipment." Are you sure about this? Microphones are sort of reverse speakers and therefore can sound as different as two differnt types of speakers. I would think this could greatly skew the spectrum anylizer. I guess it's not really that accurate anyway so probably worth a try. I've got a an EV 635A hand mic (omni directional) laying around somewhere if I can just find a female XLR to male 1/4" adapter so I can plug into the EQ. Do you think this would work or did you mean I could order a newer model mic from ADC? I'm really not that good of a bargan shopper...I just got lucky! I never find bargans when I'm actually looking for them...Somehow you just seem to stumble on them when you are not looking. Dave
