  1. I'm still getting "done, but with error on page" when trying to post. Sometimes it takes four or five tries before the box opens without the "p"s and brackets at the top left corner. The last post, about the odd message, resisted five attempts to format it properly. This is pretty annoying. EDIT: When I tried re-formatting the "odd message" posting 8 hours later, I was able to do it then. The new-look forum still has a few bugs. Hopefully they'll get caught and removed.
  2. I was surprised to get this message from a forum member. Here are the first two paragraphs: This email was sent from a user at The Klipsch Community. Replying to this email will be sent back to the user via normal email. Sent From: oliviaphill Subject: From Olivia Phillips. __________________________________ From Olivia Phillips. Abidjan Cote D'Ivoire Dear Freind, I am writting you this letter with due respect and heart full of tears i need your help, and with assurance that you will help me to transfer this fund, I am the only Son of late Mr and Mrs Wehtarbah Phillips. 3. So it seems that PWK was a linguistic innovator as well. And I always thought that squawker was a term in general use in the audio community in the middle of the last century.
  4. Here's a question: alligators seem to continue growing as long as they live. If all their body parts grow in proportion, then a big old gator would have a large brain, by gator standards at least. He might have increased reasoning ability in addition to a lifetime's experience and wisdom (by gator standards again). Have any scientists ever thought of doing intelligence testing on various sizes of gators? Come to think of it, maybe it's better and safer to just think about questions like that.
  5. The Prime Directive, obviously! Maybe they're carefully choosing their landing spot. They wouldn't want to make first contact with rednecks, for example...
  6. So you've got a brand-new receiver. Are you unhappy with the sound of it? Are you thinking of returning it before you've heard it? If it's not powerful enough when it's driving your 7 speakers, you can always add a separate power amp to drive some of them. All separate power amps are not better, just the better ones...
  7. Having common sense doesn't make you a sissy!
  8. Stinky speakers, don't you just hate that? Oldbuckster's right, most of the smell is likely coming from the grilles. If you think you can carefully wash them without damaging them, try it, then spray them with Febreze. There's also a Canadian product called Odorgon, for removing "malodors", from Chemac (www.chemac.com). Cleaning/oiling the cabinets should work on the hard surfaces.
  9. Funny thing about Pink Floyd: they're really loud in concert, but nobody ever thinks it's too loud. I saw them for the first time at Maple Leaf Gardens many, many, years ago and I still remember the bass intro to One of These Days. I didn't think it was possible for a bass guitar to sound that loud, but I wasn't complaining.
  10. Last night on the TV news was the unveiling of a plaque in a park in Port Alberni, in the west-central part of Vancouver Island. Bears are frequently seen on the far side of the creek and the plaque warns not to feed them. One Animal Control staffer commented, "A fed bear is a dead bear.", since once they come to depend on handouts or garbage, they soon become a pest and wind up getting shot. In Toronto, a similar situation arose when coyotes were noticed in High Park, a large park in the west end of the city. The coyotes were harmless until some fools fed them, then the coyotes developed a taste for small dogs. I don't know what the latest info on that situation is.
  11. Wonder what age that venerable Floridian was? That's one senior gator! There was a video going around a while ago that showed a similarly large gator swimming with a deer in its mouth. I don't know if it was this one or another one.
  12. If you're selling stuff frequently, why not open another account just for receiving money? That way, no-one gets the number of your main account. Transfer out any deposits the day they arrive and leave only $5-10 in the account the rest of the time.
  13. My buddy in the Toronto area recently picked up an Oppo 980 for his home theater and was very happy with it, then one of his friends suggested that he get a second one for his serious 2-channel system downstairs. He was amazed! He found that the Oppo 980 was comparable to his $3000 Meridian CD player. He doesn't know whether to laugh or cry...
  14. When you 'Save as Jpeg', you usually have a slider that lets you select the file size and quality. 10 or 12 is best quality, but setting it between 7 and 9 will get the file size down below 200kb, which is plenty big enough for Web posting. If you know how to re-size the image, size it to 800 pixels in its longest dimension (height if it's a vertical, width if it's a horizontal) and it will fit onscreen properly. Re-size before saving, if you have the re-sizing option.
  15. Sorry to hear you got burned out on Irish music. Too much of anything can get to you. Good thing it wasn't a polka bar. FIve years of that doesn't bear thinking about...
  16. Whatever you decide in terms of video or still cameras, be sure to get it (or them) well before your departure and take the time to really familiarize yourself with the equipment and learn to make some good recordings. You'll want to bring back good souvenirs of your trip and you'll want to be handy enough with the gear that it's not a distracting headache to use. After all, a holiday trip should be fun, first and foremost.
  17. What? A suicide is a hero? It's only a lack of courage that keeps you from killing yourself? I really, really, hope that was an attempt at humour... Not that I see any humour in this sad story.
  18. Don't wait any longer to check out the DVD. The Neil Young LIve at Massey Hall 1971 CD sounds pretty good, but the DVD that came with it is stunningly good! If all the bandwidth isn't wasted on large amounts of video content, there's room for really excellent sound. Maybe JT's DVD is one of those cases.
  19. Wow! Wild-looking amp! Does it sound as interesting as it looks?
  20. Great reading! I'm really excited for you, just following your posts. Try to keep your pix down to below 200kb if you can, though. I'll envy your son if he gets the Scalas. I have a pair and I like them a lot, but I didn't get them until I was in my 50's. Having them as a teen would have totally rocked, as the kids say...
  21. The washer in question may have dried up and shrunk. New ones are available for very little money. If you attach the driver to the horn without a washer, the seal won't be as good and there's a possibility the two metal surfaces might be hard to separate in the future.
  22. That show has been on several times over the last few years. Even in the Wikipedia article you quoted, rods are described as video artifacts three separate times. The TV documentary was entertaining, but the indication seems to be that there are no new invisible-to-the-naked-eye flying creatures.
  23. It just happened again. I clicked on the Soon to be new setup - do I need a seperates amp? thread in Home Theater at around 11:55 pm PST on January 21st and the page was accented in an eye-pleasing pale blue. When I hit Back and then Forward, it was back to the usual copper and black accents.
  24. Most Yamaha DVD players work well, but the local dealer told me a couple of years ago that they'd had some issues with the DVD-C750 and weren't recommending it at all.
  25. So these XTi amps are powerful, inexpensive and dependable, all important and good things. In a home setting, do they sound as good as a more typical "hi-fi" amp, in terms of transparency, clarity and low noise floor, among other things?
