  1. Hometheaterforum.com is the place to go for what you plan to do, and to find the quickest way to a decision. ************************************************************* NP - Godsmack - Awake (via CF-4's)
  2. Well, it certainly seem to be narrowed down to the speakers themselves, so either some of the drivers have issues or the network as suggested by the doctor above. I just added a center channel to my 2 channel system, with some source changes, so I'm not a home theater guru. Hope you get those issues corrected. I wonder if the 4 ohm Forte's could have been 8 ohms nominal, 4 ohms minimum, which they later specified for the Forte 2's? NP - Godsmack IV
  3. I'd switch positions with the Chorus and Forte, and see if the 2 channel system sounds ok. If it sounds phenomenal in surround, but not in 2 channel, sounds like a source issue. Of course, with all that equipment and power thrown at them, maybe you done did blowed 'em up! NP - Tesla - Psychotic Supper
  4. Six thumb tacks and some fabric for each speaker and you're done, which allows ventilation (not that you need it, but hey, it's a selling point!) NP - Iommi - Fused
  5. The original premise for the question was asking if the Sony receiver was under-powered for the speakers. It should not be - Klipsch speakers are very efficient and do not require lots of watts. You do need to keep the bass and treble flat, or adjust only for less than loud applications. I have the old RF-3 speakers, similar to your SF's. They are a fine speaker, and you do not need to upgrade. You also do not need "Heritage" speakers to cure your minor problem. I've blown one tweeter in 30 years of listening - it was caused by too much equalizer. Basically a useless piece of equipment except for tapes or lp's. I've run Klipsch and other speakers thru a vast amount of cheap and middle of the road electronics, and yes, some may need bass or treble boost, but if you want it loud, keep your hands off the treble, bass & loudness buttons! I listen to 2 channel 90 % of the time and if I was to upgrade anything, I'd add a subwoofer. If I were to upgrade the receiver, I'd get a Panny Digital or an Outlaw. If you want surround sound, get a good pair of headphones when you need a fix. You don't need to throw a lot of money at this as some seem to think. NP - Seether - Disclaimer (via Polk Monitor 7's and Nikko 35 wpc receiver)................................................................................................annoying double-tracking again in the right hand corner!
  6. If I were selling, I'd use "Craigslist" in the Portland area, with plenty of photos. If you are in no hurry to sell, list them with a higher than average price. Ball park pricing is about 1K, but could go higher or lower. Good luck in any case! NP - Voivod - Katorz (via EPI 100's)
  7. I did my first re-cone job last year on a pair of Boston Acoustics A100's. Got my repair kit from PartsExpress, but there are other sites that i've heard of. I spent $30 and was very happy how they turned out. Now I've got a pair of OHM C-2's that I want to get done by end of year. My favorite site for audio related info is audiokarma.org, which I visit daily (along with Klipsch of course)! Good luck!
  8. It's on youtube.com I first heard about it a week or so ago, from the Stereophile website. Even my usually bored wife thought it was funny. To search for it, i'd enter album cover war, or album cover, etc. I saw different titles for the same thing. NP - Govt Mule - High & Mighty .............+
  9. I watched Zombie's "House" a couple of times. Has some funny lines in a campy sort of way, a nice blonde with a crazy laugh, but no happy ending. I thought the extras on the dvd were a hoot, especially the "Tiny ****** a stump" routine. NP - Waysted - The Good The Bad The Waysted ..........filler..............
  10. I have Forte 2 & Heresy 2's, and except for the bass, sound very similar. My take is that you should expect very similar sound, +/- a few percent, depending on your room, sources, etc. I wouldn't want another pair of Forte's, but would prefer to go to the next level of performance, either Corn's or K-horns. (Actually, I could use a pair or KLF 30's or RF 7's if the coin was right and was planning on getting divorced). Another pair for a Home theater would make sense though. NP - The Mars Volta - Amputechture .........*.............*..............*......................*
  11. I was hoping for a Tigers comeback also, but man, they looked like the NY Yanks in this series. I know it's been a long time since the Cards won it all, 1982, to be exact, and coincidentally, beat my team, the Milwaukee Brewers. I may be waiting quite a bit longer. A 30 year anniversary win would be nice in 2012. Or maybe just get in the playoffs? What a miserable month of weather to play baseball finals in - that don't seem right? I'm outta here!
  12. CP1 - The first disc of Iommi/Hughes was the 1996 DEP Sessions. The 2nd disc was caled "Iommi", but I was wrong - no Glenn Hughes, but all different vocalists. The latest Iommi release was "Fused" with Glenn, with excellent vocals and tunes. Also featured Kenny Aranoff on drums and Bob Marlette on keyboards/bass. I got my DEP Sessions from the Apple itunes store for $8. As an aside, I was not a big fan of Mr Hughes vocal stylings in the 80's, but I think his voice is now in the octave where I can absorb it quite readily! NP - Gillan's Inn ....................................................
  13. I hope they make out alright with their new lineup, but my favorite vocalist after Ozzy was Tony Martin. Black Sabbath's "Eternal Idol" is a top notch metal classic. I've collected all three of Iommi's collaborations with Glenn Hughes, and all three of Geezers (GZR). The one Bill Ward disc I heard of is one I've never listened to. And hard to find. NP - Firm - Mean Business (LP) ..........................................................
  14. I was at the library today looking thru the latest issue of Consumer Reports, and they recommended a Toshiba, and I think it was about $125. This issue had the latest for audio and video recommendations, but I certainly would check out the best bets for auditioning any of your needed fixes. You can always spend more............ NP - Blindside
  15. I'd bypass just getting an amp and get the Outla Audio retro receiver for 6 bills plus freight. That would probably last me until I'm totally deaf, and I can listen to my el pees too! NP - Blindside
  16. I went thru a similar experiment when my trusty Hafler preamp went out and I had to use some lesser quality receivers. I could not get anything to sound as it used to, going thru my stash of speakers and receivers, until I hit on the Sansui 2000A receiver, which did the trick. All sources; cd, lp, and cassette, once again sound very nice. You may want to get that Pioneer receiver going again as that should be a nice vintage piece to match the Heresy's. NP - Savatage - Gutter Ballet
  17. I found a pair of CF-4's in "cherry finish" a few months ago out of the local classifieds. Guy had bought them new on 10-28-95 at Classic Stereo & Video in Grand Rapids, MI. I believe they are the so-called version 2, and after experimenting with different receivers, found that my vintage Sansui 2000A (35 wpc) drives them nicely. The receivers that didn't work as well were lacking bass and had shrill highs. These huge beasts are currently in my 11 x 18 carpeted basement room, about 7 feet apart. Excellent sound on nearly all types of music, altho I prefer rock and harder metal. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of the Epic line if available locally. Hope yours work out for you! NP - U.D.O. - Solid
  18. I still can't believe Klipsch gave away a pair of "Corns" ! Congratulations on your win and enjoy! (Really interested in seing some pics though!) NP - Vines - Vision Valley
  19. I also rec'd an offer to buy the same Cornwall 3's a few months ago - looks like the same ad, and price! A little fishy, but there has to be some kind of explanation. (All in favor?) I do like the KlipschKorner site, though!
  20. A friend of mine with Belle's had a hum that was traced to a dimmer switch on the same circuit. Did you try outlets on different circuits via an extension cord? Good Luck! NP - Govt Mule (Debut - 1995), via vintage Sansui S-930's
  21. Rileykill: The Raconters is enjoyable, moreso than the last White Stripes "satan'" release. A couple of killer tunes i really enjoy. 23. The B285 was the only model listed in the October 89 Audio annual equipment roundup and had a list price of $3000 US. 70 watts per channel. A remote control was optional equipment - Nice ! NP - Van Halen - Women & Children 1st
  24. I was talking with two female co-workers who said they were going to be watching (5-23) tonite. I was surfing thru my 6 other channels and did watch each performer sing/mangle/blowchunx on the gooey pap that passes for music. Both over-hyped nobody's that will end up in the cutout bins after their short fall from the bottom rung. NP - Faith No More - Introduce Yourself
  25. I've got a few speakers I rotate thru my 11' x 18' basement room, and due to volume limitations, bass is not very good on some occasions. Not a speaker issue, but more a combination of the recording, the room, and system volume. When I can get the volume up, all of the speakers are just fine as they are designed. Certainly nothing wrong with the Heresy's, but they just don't supply what I require with my current 2 channel setup. NP - Meet The Press
