Chorus II's to La Scalas, upgrade or lateral move?
Shodrewken replied to Shodrewken's topic in General Klipsch Info
The serial number shown in the photo above... 98 46 0001 Means they were manufactured during the 46th week of 1998. With serial numbers 0001 and I'm guessing 0002. The LSBK17 is LaScala Black. The only part I'm not completely sure about is the 17... But I believe it refers to the grill cloth color (black). Hope that helps. There are also a couple of threads here in the forum that cover the date numbering schemes, wood/veneers and other options of the heritage line. Thank you sir! I was just curious to their age for how good condition they are in. -

Oh and if someone could give me a hand in figuring out how old they are, I'd appreciate it -
Chorus II's to La Scalas, upgrade or lateral move?

Black wouldn't be my first choice, but I must say I'm very pleased with the condition they are in. I have to give big up's to my wife for letting me have the Chorus' in there with the scalas in our tiny living room so I could compare the two, though I wish I had thought of taking a picture of the clutter. It was quite entertaining trying to move around with all the speakers LOL. A side note, I had the RB-81's in the living room for a little bit before I moved them back into the garage for my HT, so I brought them back in for the wifey to experience the difference between a bookshelf and a heritage speaker, needless to say there was a big difference. -
They are in beautiful condition! GLWS!

I have some pics, but I haven't had the time to get them off my camera yet. Hopefully when my daughter goes down for a nap I can get some up. -
Chorus II's to La Scalas, upgrade or lateral move?

So after spending a few days having some good listening sessions, I've come to the conclusion the La Scalas are my favorite speaker I've ever owned for music, and I'm sure will be right up there if not better for movies than my 7 II's. -
Recommend a 2 channel SS receiver for La Scalas

I just picked up a pair of scalas, and I've been very pleased with my onkyo/acurus combo. -
Looks great man! The RSW-15 is one of my favorite subs I've ever owed, as long as space permits, I don't think I'll ever get rid of mine. -

Glad my post can spark such an in depth discussion Only had some listen time with the Scalas today, so no A/B testing, but from what I heard, I like very much. What I noticed right off the bat, HUGE sound stage, and I can listen to the scalas at almost any level without listening fatigue. The detail these guys can produce is amazing! Even at lower listening levels I feel I can still get a very enjoyable experience where with my other speakers it seems I must turn them up a bit higher to do the same thing. So horn loaded bass you say? I love it! So clean, so crisp. I know others have express a disappointment with the lack of lower extension, but dang to me it rocks. With that said, some music I listen to just doesn't have its full effect without some lower extension, so I'm pleased to report that my RSW-15 blends very well with the scalas. Even my wife came in and sat down to listen, and then proceeded to play some of her favorite music -
Chorus II's to La Scalas, upgrade or lateral move?

Thanks for all the input gents! I realize ultimately it is personal preference and much is subjective but I am glad to hear personal experience just the same. To explain things a little better, I'm getting a really good deal on this pair, so if it turns out they are not to my liking I can recoup the cost and then some without any issue. My main reason to start this thread was just to get an impression of what I should expect when I get to listen to them. I have my RSW-15 for bass duty with my current 2-channel music setup, but I am curious to hear less distorted bass as Coytee described. And finally I'm lucky enough to have room in my "man cave" aka the garage to A/B the two sets, so thoughts and impressions will follow once I pick them up in a little bit and give them a decent listening to. -

The level of detail that has been described about them is what interests me the most. Plus I've never heard horn loaded bass so I'm excited to hear that too. -

I have an opportunity to get a nicely priced pair of Scalas, and was wondering your guys thoughts if there would be a big difference in SQ from the Chorus IIs. -
Joe sorry to hear of your loss. I cannot imagine what you are going through, much love, good thoughts and prayers coming your way bro.

Impressed with the Onkyo TX-NR1008...Even for Music
Shodrewken replied to Youthman's topic in Home Theater
I love Onkyo! My 818 never gave me the hdmi or sound problems a lot of folks had, but I had it serviced anyway just in case. Anyway I've always loved how it sounds, and I've been very pleased with the 8050 I picked up recently. -
My new Klipschorns have arrived!

Very slick bro, and factory new to boot! They look great in your room, all the black speakers reminds me of a stealth bomber ready to drop some major audio bombs! Congrats! -
I love both of my plasma panels. If you can find one on the cheap from Samsung or panasonic, I'd say go for it

I was just visiting my bro in law in Colorado who recently purchased a RF-83 five channel system for his new media room he just completed. Anyway he had his plugs in the top part of the terminal just powering his high end and mid range, and was getting now bass. As you can imagine his face lit up with excitement when we had everything plugged in correctly. A quick side note, this was my first time listening to RF-83's in person, and I have to say they are beasts! Very punchy bass and super smooth sounding. From what I could recall of my 7 II's they seemed a little less harsh at higher listening levels and sounded more relaxed overall.

I got mine new from acoustic sound design for $1900 shipped, and others have done even better than that. Give Mike Embers at ASD a call, he's a nice guy, and should hook you up with an even nicer price.
