  1. What sounds good to you and what is superior on paper may be two different things. Some of the better built amps today are so clean that they can sound bright, thin and somewhat shrill with horns. Some of the discount amps are marginally built with weak power supplies and the Cap reserve is small when compared to a no "compromise" company, so to speak. To top it off, they finish up things with crosstalk and SNR numbers that are usually not stellar for a separate amp and pre setup. Some may be able to hear this, some may not. A lot of guys here have owned several different amps and are already giving some very good brands and pricey options. IMO, you already own one of the best tube amps available to run your Cornwall set and many here would consider its the very best power option for them. I would look at the crossovers before I shelled out money trying to get a better sound than what you have. But...If I had to buy a SS amp today, it would either be a used Bryston SST series or a new ATI amp, which is probably the best bang out there right now. Both of these amps are way over built and built to last. They also have some of the best bench test numbers out there period. ATI = 10 year warranty and Bryston is 20 years. ATI builds many different Amps for some big names and not just companies they own. I know they built a model or two for the Mark Levinson line in the past. ATI is so thorough they wind and construct their own Toroidal power supplies in house. I heard a two channel ATI amp last summer in Memphis that was about 10 years old I think and it was a 200 watt per channel two channel amp. It was hooked up to cookie cutter Marantz AVR and a set of Belles. I expected a idle hiss and a really sharp compressed output from the high wattage. I couldn't have been more wrong and I actually intended on purchasing one, before I came across a set of K's I had to have. The big key here is the sound signature you are going after and unless you know where there are an infinite amount of amps you can bring home and demo, there will also be a "what if" in the back of your mind.
  2. The left is getting bullied out of the corner from that filing cabinet. PWK thought every speaker deserved a corner

  4. Klipsch was purchased for around 166 million. Klipsch has an annual revenue of around 31 million. The Bose company annual revenue is 2.3 billion. Not making excuses, but Bose has been marketing very hard for decades. I think they may have been the first to come up with the no see um satellite speaks that included a sub., that was a huge seller. They were also one of the first to market the noise cancelling headphones. They also spend tons of money on TV adds for tha friggin Bose Wave radio....versions 1 through 17 I think they also offered financing for those things to boot. They were smart in designing and marketing, and it doesn't have to have audiophile sound to sell to the masses. Remember, we are a small piece of the pie when it comes to demanding good sound. Lets face it, and I think most will agree, the majority of the world doesn't know shit from shinola and includes many other subjects other than audio goodies. Klipsch is taking a bite of the earbud market which I am glad to see. However, Klipsch has too many discontinued products. I applaud them for throwing spaghetti against the wall bringing out some cool blutooth players and what not, but when they're not offered two years later, something is amiss. The Klipsch Stadium blutooth player that has impressive specs and power is a very cool item, but its far from a money maker. Whos gonna pay 1.5 to 2K for that thing when you can purchase a very decent 5.1 Klipsch setup all with a decent AVR for the same price? I know, I know, its somewhat small and can sit on a shelf and don't get me wrong, I think its cool even though I haven't even heard it yet. But come on, how about a set of used Cornwalls and a decent tube amp for under 2K? This Stadium doesnt make sense and will likely be one and done like the others left in the trail.
  5. Last I checked it was $550 with all the goodies
  6. Im sick of Bose systems in the new Vehicles. Has anyone heard a decent Bose system in any vehicle? H&K has some decent sounding systems that I have heard.
  7. Well she has two weeks, when I get the bells here, I will hook them up not touching the xovers or anything, then give her a little time with those. I hope she sticks with the Ks, Bells in the cave suuure would be an upgrade. When Mama's happy, everyone is happy! It sounds like the whole house is getting an upgrade either way.
  8. Ha! I bet the better half doesn't give up the K's now.
  9. Redo looks great. Are they sounding better to you now?
  10. Proportions are all out of whack
  11. it's about a 4" gap the full length, just a bad photo looking straight on. I had to look twice. It looked like you just sealed the back off.
  12. And I bet 5K or less would bring it all home http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-Industrial-Speaker-Collection-/271481176208?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item3f358a0090
  13. Thats Big Time AUDIO. Looking forward to hearing what you and Ref. say three across the front sound like. Congrats !
  14. Nah, I caught him during a yawn. He wouldn't hurt a flea unless it was messing with my wife. He was an old Wolf-Dog named "Sugarbear" from Oklahoma. 14 good years. RIP Good Buddy
  15. Geez, that's is $16K in a pre-pro and two amps? You are committed to Anthem
  16. Im liking the build of the 710 and don't mind it missing a lot of the "extras", but it looks like that fan will be getting a workout. Two reviews really pump up its two channel stereo sound, which is a big plus for some of us. EDIT: I could have done without the MADE IN CHINA tag on the back though.
  17. until you need it fixed took 2 months to get mine backthat is longer than usual I presume I had my d2v upgraded to 3d and was back with me within 3.5 weeks. Quality wise I like anthem and their sound ad well as arc. A lot of Audio reviews puts ARC at the top of room correction. They build some pretty salty Amps to boot. It would be nice to demo their 710 AVR against a few of the Asian built AVR's.
  18. Now that is a serious purchase
  19. Keep a grinnin' til' the weekend comes....
  20. Denon fan here since the late 80's. Their upper models usually win the bench tests on paper when it comes to output and SNR numbers. Also their upper line is assembled in Japan and not China. Look at features you want and research online. With a direct source and normal listening levels its unlikely anyone could pick out the sound of "their" AVR when compared to equal rivals..... although when driven hard, it might be a different story.
  21. Put the Chorus in the corners of the room about 12-16" out from the wall. 12" may be a little too close and make it boomy, if so just pull them out a few inches and try again. Toe them in towards the center of the room and aim them where your single central listening spot is. This should help in the bass dept.
  22. I once spent $200 for 64K of RAM! It was a kit that I had to solder. That was a very, very long time ago. Things have changed a lot. Not too long ago....around 20-25 years , Dells flagship tower had 500mb hard drive. It was advertised on the back of Computer shopper and was the shite at the time!
  23. You don't see those that clean anymore. Very nice Philly. GLWS
