  1. Ok I am loving audio, but that stuff just makes my head hurt. I just want to put on some music and enjoy my speakers.
  2. My Yamaha htr-6090 has the ability to bi-amp using the rear surrounds. I don't know if it makes a difference or not I have never tried it. I have heard people say it's not worth the time, but I never trust everything I read on a forum. As far as I know biamping just gives you more available power(headroom). Those rf-7s are NICE. As far as using 5.1 on a 7.1 setup, your receiver should have an option when you set it up to have no rear surrounds. It basically turns off those outputs. Unless of course you are using them to bi-amp.
  3. I have preouts on my receiver and wanted to know Is it possible to run my 2 fronts out of my preouts to an amp and the rest off of my receiver. Would I get any benefit from this at all? Besides the higher power. I really have gotten to like my music lately and have quit listening in multi channel.
  4. I found the bass less natural sounding with my subs on. I agree with this completely. Now that is not to say I won't have one in the future. I may find it'll work out better in a different setup.
  5. I actually like monster. Their product is somewhat expensive but they take care of any problems that might come up with no hassle. Can I get good 12 gauge wire from Home depot for a lot less? Yes. Could I get Home Depot to replace it if it turned green? not on your life.
  6. I actually sold my rsw-15 and use just the kg-4s for 2 channel. I find the sound so clean I don't know if I'll buy another sub for a while.
  7. There is a very interesting article on receivers and their rated power. I tried to find it but could not. It basically was showing how manufacturers will rate a receiver with just one channel driven. It gave a breakdown on what they actually delivered. Onkyo was decent as was HK. Yamaha rated decently but the unit tested was a higher end unit(1400) Sony was absolutely terrible delivering a measly 30 watts per channel when 5 channels were driven. I had seen this on the avsforum if you want to spend the time looking for it. If I find it I'll post it on here. Ok I had the brands wrong here is the breakdown from that article. Denon 4308 Rated: 140 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 171 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 111 watts http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Denon 2307 Rated: 100 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 140 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 74 watts http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Pioneer VSX-94TXH Rated: 100 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 178 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 61 watts http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Onkyo 605 Rated: 90 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 144 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 80 watts http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Onkyo 875 Rated: 140 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 201 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 128 watts http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Yamaha RX-V2600 Rated: 130 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 158 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 55 watts Yamaha RX-V1800 Rated: 100 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 196 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 119 watts - 6 channels driven http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Yamaha RX-V661 Rated: 90 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 151 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 53 watts - 6 channels driven http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Sony DG910 Rated: 100 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 84 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 30 watts - and that's only with 5 channels driven http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Cambridge 640R Rated: 100 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 166 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 91 watts http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...-receiver.html Integra DTR-7.6 Rated: 105 watts per channel Output with 1 channel driven (8 ohms): 148 watts Output with all channels driven (8 ohms): 44 watts http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/rec...ers-page2.html
  8. That would be Sarah Elizabeth. She was a whole 7 weeks yesterday. My first at 39 and when she smiles it just about brings me to tears. That picture was about 24 hours after she was born.
  9. OK I posted a new thread about the tubes. Maybe some kind person will hook me up.
  10. I have some really ugly looking KG-4s I bought the other day for 100 bucks. They really surprised me with their sound. So now I want to hear what tubes will do to them. I am in Arlington and would certainly appreciate it if someone would let me bring these over and listen to them. I make fantastic barbq and would be willing to cook a meal for it.
  11. I'm in Arlington Texas. Yeah I noticed they will only get so loud and then it just stops. They sound way better than my Synergy bookshelves. Just don't have the volume I typically like. I really just picked these up on a whim cause they were cheep cheep. I am impressed. I've always heard about tubes really doing wonderful things for Klipsch and I want to hear it. But I can't say I'm so interested to lay out hundreds of dollars to test them. I'll post a thread on here and over at AVS to see if I can find someone local who has an amp I can hook them up to. So how much does something like the Scott go for?
  12. Afraid I don't know Harryo but I'll probably post a request for someone with Tubes to let me come hook em up. Oldbuckster How much amp do I need for speakers like this? I do like it loud.
  13. Yeah I'm going to buy a pair when I find them I'll at least be able to get what I give out of them if I don't like them. If that's the case I'll go for some better looking ones than these KG-4's and maybe some amplification. I'm just running these straight from my Yamaha receiver now.
  14. Yes I have to admit I'm intrigued by the forte's after hearing these. These don't get as loud as my synergy's but the sound quality is surprising. I was listening to Catherine McPhee's Somewhere over the Rainbow and the detail you could hear was unbelievable. And this set is really pretty rough.(one passive is flaking pretty bad) I'd love to hear them on a good amp.
  15. I found some older KG-4 on craigslist and I hooked them up today. I am really amazed at the sound quality. I only had some Synergy B-3's but I never expected that kind of jump in quality. I do need to replace the passive on one of them. Now I don't plan on keeping these in mymain system but I will keep them for parties or a bedroom system. How do speakers like the rf-7 compare to the older models?
  16. I would say that samsung led was a dlp rear projection unit( I could be wrong). I have one and I love it. Also a bit cheaper than LCD and Plasma.
  17. I hate cutting rafters. There are some great formulas for doing it but it never seems to work out exactly like I figure. I always cut the first too short regardless of how confident I am on my figures. The second I cut long and fit manually(trial and error) after that I have a pattern and duplicate all the rafters I need. Have a ball.
  18. Not to hijack but I saw a pair of Khorns on craigslist 2 weeks ago that went for 400 bucks in good condition and everything worked. I emailed but it had been listed for an hour when I saw them, they were gone.
  19. Dude I absolutely love my yamaha. You'll love it.I did find the auto calibration was not as accurate as I'd like and had to do a lot of research to figure it out but once done, it's amazing. Have a ball with it and enjoy. Ignore the bashing of audio snobs who make claims with absolutely no foundation in fact. Yamaha makes an excellent product.
  20. I recently went out of town and forgot some bananas on my counter and came home to hundreds of gnats. I hate that damn bug I keep trying to smash it. LOL
  21. My house is only a 1024 ft square with 3 bdrm and I run a Klipsch rsw-15 with a 1000 watt amp no it's not overkill. I also had a rattle in it but it was my passive radiator had something loose in it. Klipsch sent me a new one and it made a huge difference.
  22. The copy protection issue is not what the format war is about. It's about the percentage the company that developed the format gets from disk sales. Toshiba made billions when their format for dvd was chosen and sony doesn't want that to happen again. I think it really is a moot point because a really good upscaling player will make an sd movie look fantastic on hd tv. the general public just doesn't care enough to replace all their old movies. I'm afraid these players will go the way of the laser disc and just be a footnote in the history of electronics. I have an hd dvd player but have not bought very many movies. I just use it for a good upconverting player. Which it is. Do I care which format wins? Not at all.
