  1. The only reason I've been contemplating this is because I'd had an offer from someone to buy my Onkyo Reference M-5000R amplifier and Onkyo P-3000R preamp, which already has dual 32-bit (really, 24 or so) Burr Brown PCM1795 DAC's. Maybe I should just keep the preamp and sell the amp as it sure does simplify things. It's a pretty solid preamp with its bi-amp capability and analog outputs. Plus the solid mount RCA's versus the basic ones on a plastic board behind the back panel. It was a $1,600 preamp when new. Not to mention, those same TI PCM1795 chips are used in this current model 110th Anniversary Denon PMA-110 integrated amplifier at $4,000. I guess they aren't all that bad.
  2. Turn them into a 2-way using a K-510 or that clone K-510 horn on e b a y or ma. You'll stand a better chance of playing pick up sticks with your butt cheeks than to find a pair of K500's. (to quote John Candy. )
  3. Heck, the Schitt Modius gets quite good ratings from the ASR website. Too bad it's 6 to 8 weeks out or I'd really consider it more. I guess I'll be wasting money on the ones with Balanced inputs and outputs as my Carver gear is unbalanced RCA's. I might not be able to hear those intricate differences anyway. @jjptkd Which Topping was it you bought?
  4. Now that you mention it, I need to check that and see. But, my TV only has 2 HDMI inputs and I have an HDMI switcher (2 in/1 out) because I have 3 HDMI's; from my PC (DP to HDMI adapter direct to TV), the PS3, and a Firestick. Maybe I can reconfigure that to need only one optical. Obviously I don't need audio from the PC as it goes through the USB which leaves the PS3 and Firestick. If both go through the HDMI switcher, that may alleviate the one optical. Surely that little switcher passes audio.
  5. I look a those a lot but the main negative is that I need 2 optical inputs, preferably, for the PS3 and TV. I'd prefer not to have to switch the optical cable if I didn't have to.
  6. Oh yeah....I've looked on there. I've read from various forums that place is a hit or miss as Amir, and that website, mainly look at measurements and that's it. But definitely a site to use for comparison.
  7. I've seen a listing on other forums with someone selling a Cambridge Audio Dac Magic Plus for $250 shipped which seems like a decent deal. What I like about that unit is the multiple of inputs as I use USB from PC for streaming Amazon Music HD, Spotify, & JRiver and I also have the optical out from my PS3 and optical from TV. That part with the inputs would come in handy. I would set it as fixed output since it would be fed to my preamp; I've read that volume control is a little wonky at best, which wouldn't matter. Things I don't care about but, if they are there, is fine are: Volume control, remote control (will be on USB 95% of time), and headphone out (don't own a pair).
  8. Yep, I've looked at some of the Topping things and they are a brand I've read about, too. That one would be a contender but I'd hate to have to wait on their ship time! haha. They had a few other models that fit the bill, too. Thanks!
  9. I wish there was a section in the forum for "digital" stuff as I'm sure lots of people use DAC's, streamers, etc. The topics seem to get lost in various areas, though. I'm doing some changing and looking for a basic DAC....meaning something in the $150 to $300 range. I'm not a high dollar audiophile by any means and am kind of a tight a$$ by trade. lol. Sure, the Schitt stuff is popular but some have a long wait time that I don't care for. Anything you guys have used that you think worth mentioning? This will be used with two fully rebuilt Carver pieces; a C-1 preamp that has had most everything replaced including RCA connections and has remote control and a fully rebuilt M-1.0t MkII Opt 002 (yes, long name). It's a great sounding and powerful amp that really mates well with the Epic CF-3 v1's.
  10. I've smoke our Thanksgiving turkey for the last 6 years or so and before that, it was the deep fry method. But, now I smoke them and do the "spatchcock" method which cooks everything way more evenly and takes far less time. Always a hit for those who love turkey.
  11. Jeez....I hate to hear of a member passing. Born in '64...way too young. I just turned 55 a couple weeks ago and, the older I get, the more I'm reminded of what my grandfather told me when I was a teenager and into later years. "You know you're getting older when you hear of/go to more funerals than birthday parties". The older I get, the more I understand it. Life is short...we just don't know how long we'll be around. Rest in peace and my condolences to his family and friends.
  12. Didn't you already start 2 threads in 2 different areas about this?
  13. If it wasn't for the wait into late January now, I would seriously contemplate one of those amps in the 2 channel NC502MP config. But I can't get past that 3 month wait.
  14. I currently use an Onkyo Reference P-3000R which has served me well with its analog and digital inputs plus a very good DAC built in. I also have a fully rebuilt Carver C-1 preamp that's had over 200 parts changed on it plus added remote volume control. But, I'm pondering buying one of the NAD C658 preamps with BlueOS built in. I'm wanting something that does a step up better at streaming than going from PC to preamp. Not to mention I used to be an NAD rep and still in good with the people at Lennrook.
  15. 1 is a resistor used in the midrange section. 2 is a 2uf cap in the tweeter section. 3 is what you would change out if that's the plan.
  16. Agreed with above. Add a switch that will give you more ports and you could always send EOP (ethernet over power) to the other location. That works reasonably well if the line is on the same circuit breaker panel...which most are...with some exceptions.
  17. @SWL Well, with some months of listening time having passed, how are you enjoying those Schiit amps? I still ponder getting one to try out.
  18. Well, it was definitely an added finish as those came originally as "Birch Raw". You can also tell from the way they did around the labels. What it is, though, I can't tell without seeing it up close. Maybe a shellac?
  19. That's where you separate the adults from the kids and maybe they learn to put on their "big people undies".
  20. I'm tellin' ya'. Make Garage Sale listings where NO ONE can comment within the thread and ONLY by PM/DM and you will solve a lot of this BS that goes on. Not to mention potentially lessen the "professional posters" here that seem to post on every thread to increase their count.
  21. I still don't like the AMHD user interface. That's a couple things I wish Amazon would do....copy how the Connect feature of Spotify works and implement it with theirs and also the Save Artist feature where it actually saves the artist without having to "download" an album. Also it seems like I've had the same recommended Ultra HD albums in the group for a year now. Same ol' sh!t. I like Qobuz pricing better than Tidal, too. I tried Tidal a couple years back, I believe. I kept getting crap music recommended that I had no interest in.
  22. So what are some larger chip amps to work with? I'd be interested in dipping my toes at 100+ wpc. Or maybe in a pair of mono blocks?
  23. I bought one of these little jewels to help with a peak in my room around 2khz and it's done a great job of it. I'm sure I could use some room treatment for reflections but I'll get to that. This EQ has made listening more enjoyable. Thanks for your measurements!
  24. Yes, these were from the CF-3 version 3's I had a few years back.
