  1. Don't openTHAT can of worms again... Bruce This is something I set out to try eventually, as there are alot of things I would like to try and will only take them as they come as my pockets are empty most of the time.
  2. Not at all. The Mac may achieve full output power at 1v input, wherer the Emotiva might require 3v to achieve full power. Dave But that does make perfectly good since.
  3. Scratch that last comment, yours is now showing up funny how it wasn't at that time.
  4. Sorry Dave I never picked up on my dad's metaphors.
  5. So recently I sold my Emotiva UPA-5, which I had hooked to my Khorns. Since I had the McIntosh MC2505 just laying around, I thought I would utilize it and use it for my 2 channel rig. I don't know if it is the fact that it is just something different but the McIntosh sounds so much better. Ok I know its not apples to apples but dam it sounds good. Another quick question, on the Emotiva it didn't have gain knobs, so I figure it was running at 125 at all times. The Mc2505 has gain knobs but are only up 1/2 way does this mean I am running only at 25 watts a channel instead of the full 50. So I guess the post should read 25 watts of MC vs 125 watts of Emo. This puts meaning to trying different amps and now I can see how people are never satisfied, if one amp can sound so much better maybe a different one will. Only time will tell but can't wait to having some extra money to try all sorts of candy.
  6. I am on the mailing list for the amp camp mono block diy kits to come in over at diyaudio.com I figure for a less then $200.00 I can start with that and if my build is a success I will give the f4 or f5 clone kit a try. But like I said I am on the mailing list to be notified when the kit comes in.
  7. After Christmas I will be buying a 1019, but I will be putting it in a Bozak cabinet. Which I will remove the old turn table mount and put a beefier 1" thick piece of maple in place. I must say that plinth is coming along nicely, can't wait to see your finish.
  8. When are you going to have info on your site. Maybe I have messed it.
  9. I know the vinyl engine has them as well, I was trying to find a way to print it at the right size. You did such a good job cutting it I thought you used a cnc mill. Nice work I cant wait to see the final product.
  10. How did you go about cutting out the opening for the table.
  11. Hey Jeff welcome, and thanks for chiming in.
  12. After taking some time toaday and looking around I did see some of the Firstwatt stuff around for under 2k. It must be more of the Passlab stuff that goes for 10 grand. When you guys say hf horn are you talking just the K77 or the k402 or after market.
  13. Thanks Cask you all way to put things so they make since. When I have a huge pot of coffee, I need to take time to sit down and really read a lot of the readings you post about.
  14. If we get lucky we will get 9" through out the next day and it will stick through Christmas for out white Christmas. Then it will probably warm up to about 40 degrees next week and melt and make a big mess.
  15. Well, this answers some of the questions I asked in that ss vs tube thread. Mark I hope you don't mind me watching your decision unfold.
  16. Dr. Who, Cask As I try to wrap my brain around all of this tech stuff. A couple of simple questions come to mind. First let me say I don't care tube or ss either way as long as it sounds good to me. @ Cask As I sat down and starting typing I had think what it was I wanted to ask. Let me first clarify something as I have been to 3 websites prior to this conversation, Passlabs, Firstwatt, and Passdiy. Which are all based around Nelson Pass's designs. I try to think how a pair of $10,000 monoblocks sound, this being said how could the sound compare to a great sounding pair of $1500.00 dollar set amps sound. Yes I know I am not comparing apples to apples. What I got to sort of wondering, is what would going from their 300 watt monoblocks, to the Firstwatt 10 watt monos at a cost $10,000 or more going down to the diy jobs that are offered at Passdiy. Could you use these amps for bi or tri amping(not that I am) but if was to. Would one use it for the LF section or the HF section or both. Something is intriguing about a ss amp that produce 10 watts. @Dr. Who If I own one of the Mcintosh amps such as the MC2505 with the autoformers, what tap would I want to use for my Klipschorns. As I am getting ready to hook it up in the next couple of days.. I know these seem like some amateur questions but I am a amateur, and all ways trying to save my self from spending a lot of money twice if I don't have to (especially these days). whew this stuff gets overwhelming some times.
  17. Is that their new flagship model, I read a little about it on AVS, at 3500.00 if I wait the next 10 years when my ht is done I might be able to afford a used one. Nice looking addition, I have the same cable box.
  18. Drool, drool[]. These were the first mono blocks I have ever laid eyes on. If only I had the dough. Good luck with the sale.
  19. I like both, I think both have their pros and cons. But as far as all that tech mumbo jumbo goes. I know one thing, tubes sure look pretty.
  20. I have the 5650s in walls with my Cornwall setup, If I had room and a lot of people use Heresies, or these should work. http://www.ebay.com/itm/290820281132?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I have Gothovers drifts built with a 15 degree downward angle for my theater room.
  21. You suck, just kidding. Very nice work you have done again, and all for a out door system. The ttls was my first sub, I used the auraco ply wood, I wouldn't use it again. So I will be building a new one with some better ply. That glue is messy, I made the braces all wrong, I tried using the same pocket screws you did but it wasn't working as good as it probably should. I still need a amp for it, haven't really given it a chance yet so couldn't tell you how it sounds(kind of like Dave's Drift) Anyways just wanted stop by and compliment you on your work, and choice of cigars. Looking forward to your review on it.
  22. Hot dam I love em, the redish in the out door pics and the darker brownish in the indoor pics. It wouldn't matter to me I would take them either way. He did a fantastic job. my dad had a stereo cabinet that had that veneer on it. Very nice
  23. Congrats, I hope you enjoy. Which sounds like you are.
