  1. 10 years! I haven't even been able to keep a wife around that long! []
  2. Great to hear another happy ending!!! Congrats on your new vintage rig! One of my repair guys has a td124 for me as soon as he "digs" it out....been almost a year, so I'm not holding my breath Happy the transaction was smooth....why this place is so great!!!!!
  3. Darn!!! Looks like someboby better hit the treadmill today....either that or double up on the Lipitor [][][][][] I'm just jealous...all I had last night was plain grilled chix breast brown rice and steamed broccoli.....Irony would have it that I'll get hit by a bus and you all will out live me by 40 years....but I'll look great in the coffin....[]
  4. .....Very glad that you pointed this fact out.... mostly a marketing ploy i guess. SS amps are another beast all together, just because they are designed with a warm fuzzy coloration, does not make them sound like tubes. They sound like SS amps that are skewed toward the warm and fuzzy. Some really like this sound and I won't argue with it....you like what you like! I'm just really glad Colin pointed this out as I too get caught up in semantics.
  5. I always loved this one......
  6. Congrats and welcome!!! as other have said what you have is very nice, but keep your eyes peeled for a Mcintosh Mc250 or 2505 ($400-600) vintage S.S. mac that was designed to emulate their tube amps of the era. If you have a CD player with volume control, you don't even need a preamp... lots of folk here swear by these amps and they sound excellent with all heritage line speakers..... The vintage Sansui Au-11000/ Au-9900 ($300-600) are awesome S.S. amps from the same golden hifi era... I have/have had all the above mentioned and could easily live with any if my $$$$ were to the point that I could not afford my all Tube system. just some thoughts....and remember that even though SS vintage were generally well made and last a long time....a 35-40 year old amp can just quit on you....so a $200 steel, may turn into a money pit if it needs to be rebuilt....so make sure if you buy vintage, do your due diligence .....
  7. What dtel said....GLA51 is probably kicking some cadet *** as we type!!! I usually talk with him every week, but I haven't bothered him for a while......
  8. http://www.camerarepair.com/Used-Cameras/Leica-RF-M-C167/Bodies-C168/M3-P104/?utm_medium=cse&utm_source=froogle This shop repairs and sells vintage Leica....looks like the M3 body w/o lens goes for $1800...... not to shabby!
  9. The Mamiya probably isn't worth too much....But the all the vintage Leica's are very collectable and may fetch a nice price.... The glass Leica glass is supurb! I'm not an expert on these models, But I would have your friend get a good appraisal the leica gear....heck I'd love to have one if I had the money!
  10. Very close to the smoothies I occasionally make except I use whey protien powder and soy milk . I use whey during the day, but there is something about Casin protein that "turns the body off" =and helps you sleep and your body to repair....whey charges you up.... I read the tech stats from a few different sources....maybe its a placebo effect but i do feel the difference.
  11. Same as every night: 3 scoops Casin protein powder blend (dymatise elite if anyone is interested) 1/2 cup raw oats 1 tbsp flax seed 1/4 cup skim milk ice water blend in a blender and voila!!!
  12. 6 oz fresh roasted turkey breast 1 cup brown rice steamed broccoli 1 banana 25 pistachio nuts
  13. Satch plays fats is one of my favorites...i don't have his copy but an original in NM Satch plays king Oliver is another fav....also not this pressing but an original Not on this sight are Louis and ella on verve and Louis and Ella together again (volumes one and two) are great for the genre.... Porgy and Bess is great! I find some of his early works are not recorded to well like, louis and the mag seven . I don't really like vocal jazz much and listen mainly to bebop-hardbop .....but Louis Armstrong always puts a smile on my face!!! mainly dixieland i find his trumpet phrasing very upbeat and his vocal syncopation "happy" and "playful" I'd start with Fats Waller and King Oliver.....If you don't like those, just forget getting any more and I'll buy them off you....that way I won't where out my originals....
  14. Once the muscles start firming up and building, the muscle mass weighs a lot more. With some stress last week and the heat, I dropped 5 lbs. If I could stay here at 150 and get more strength, I would love it, as would my gf. I'm pretty maxed out (or so I thought ) on muscle mass....265 and under 6% bodyfat..... I used to "lift weights" 6 days a week..... and held steady for a long time.... now I hardly lift weights at all, and do intense body weight/core exercises with medicine balls, suspension systems, sledgehammers, tires, kick boxing..etc and to my amazement my muscle mass is going up (not the effect I wanted) but I am in much better all around physical shape......so i really am training more like an athlete and less like a gym rat! wish I could have figured this out years ago..... the fitness industry is leaning this way now as it is a healthier and more effective way to train....
  15. Thats odd...In my experience with sansui.... I have a set of H I's hooked up to a Sansui Au-7900 thats really smooth....nicer than with a MC 2505 . Also had a Sansui Au-11000 with cornwalls that was very nice....and I'm a tube guy!!! the 9090db is from the same era/build type as my au's....possible that your 9090 needed a tune up???? No flame or criticism meant.... just not in my experience with vintage Sansui, so i'm puzzled is all....
  16. Wuzzer I feel your pain....running in south florida this time of year is a killer, like your trying to breathe pea soup for air!! To make matters worse, I'm training at a new gym lead by an ex special opps isreali commando .... two nights a week he has his "combat fitness class" same way special forces trains....starts with a 1/3 mile "sprint" you must do in under 2 min or your out...then no rest, just glove up into 2, 6 minute all out kickboxing rounds....so here I am wheezing and choking from the run, getting the crap kicked out of me. i finally get my breath and rhythm buy the second round, guess what ? another 1/3 mile sprint!...then 12 exercises in a row( squat thrusts, pullups, pushups, tire flips, kettlebells) all no rest....on and on for one full hour, finished by another run!!!! this getting in shape crap is going to kill me!!! i've actually put on weight even though I'm working out intensely 6 days a week, because I'm using muscles in a totally different way my point...... trust the mirror more than the scale and don't freak if that last 2 lbs isn't coming off....it's about how you feel and how your body starts to look, more than the lbs.... keep up the great work, it's nice to hear about your progress....keeps me inspired!!! [][][][][]
  17. Now what would ever give you that idea? That would be totally sophomoric, and as everybody knows, I'm a sophisticurated guy. Yeah, such ulterior motives would be beyond a classy guy like meself. You just burst my bubble.....I like it when you wax sophmoric! I should have known the mighty thebes would never stoop to such levels []
  18. What kind of budget do you have? new, used??? Modern, vintage? I love the vintage sound for nostalgias sake, and keep several vintage set ups just because.....but my main rig is all modern, and I think with the exceptional clarity that your H III's have a modern design would suit your needs.... Rogue Audio has a wonderful tube integrated for less than 2K, that sounds like it costs 10K..... Cayin has some very good sounding products that are reasonable... Mcintosh has several newer integrated amps and they are a great deal considering they hold there value over time If you like vintage a HH Scott rebuild, or Sansui, could be right up your ally It's kind of like ice cream....lots of flavors to choose from, you just got to get out there and start tasting......Sorry if this made things worse for you....
  19. When I first got my BBX I was still waiting for my tube power amp.....I ran the BBx front end using 3 different integrated amps and all of them greatly benefited from the bbx! One Caveat....I think it shows the quality of J.M.'s work, not just the fact that it was a tube pre....... I was using a vintage Mac tube pre and one of the integrated amps mentioned was the Sansui AU-111 all tube (maybe one of the best sounding vintage {vintage sound} amps around)....the mac and Sansui while very nice were "wooly, and colored" compared to the clean crisp detail I get from the BBX... I'm sure that there are many other high end modern tube pre's that will preform similarly, but all that I have tested are 2-5 times the price of a new BBX
  20. Heh. When I saw the thread title I thought to myself "now this is why we can't have nice things". [] [] [] [] []
  21. Testing Amy's limits, huh Thebes??????
  22. Hey Jeff, I was running a mc2505 with corns, and it was a very competent setup! I really loved the way that older 60's - 70's rock sounded....
