  1. Jay, it might be worth the trip... then again, I saw Dark Knight @ the Craddle of Aviation on LI instead of going to the city. The picture was awesome, but the sound was a little lacking. I was up at the top of the theatre and the surround definately didn't fill in the rear. Bass sounded ok. All the local movie theatres to me are disappointing in sound lately. Maybe I just expect to much. I definately want to hit the Clearview Ziegfeld up in midtown, but they have Mama Mia playing now, was hoping for Dark Knight..closest and most convienent theatre that uses Klipsch. Hopefully it will bring my hopes back up as I have good things about it.
  2. the cigarette socket I believe is only rated to 300 watts, anything above that you need to goto the battery Don't want to melt the lighter, especially with it continusously drawing power, regardless of peaks. I've had my friend melt his when using a 1million candle spotlight, and that's not 300w, maybe 100w.
  3. Sorry had to correct you. Please please please do not group the two groups together.
  4. Since I'm in the young-middle 20 something group, let me throw my opinion and knowledge of my young twenty something freinds. I like the style of the new camaro, would I buy one? No, not my style, not my kind of car. I have do have two friends who love it, and will get one next year. They have also always been big muscle car guys. One has a 90's camaro with a ton of work done to it. As for my other friends, none of them seem to have any interest in these muscle cars. What do they prefer? BMW, Merc, Audi, Toyota/Lexus. They want luxary, they want comfort, then want to ride in style. Well see what versions of the Camaro come out with, but if you look at the mustang, and you look at the 3 modified ones you can buy such as the Saleen version, honestly imho, the performance boost they give to tweak the cars is horrible. Maybe its politics, and insurance preventing them from really tweaking it up, but I hardly think 310hp is muscle anymore when it's not cracking sub 5 second 0-60, and still high 13's. Maybe Im biased, but then again all my muscle car friends do love my subaru. It's a totally different feeling, but I'll glaldy stick with my sub 5 second, 320hp Subaru. Now the Chevy 454's in our boat, their a totally different beast.
  5. That's pretty cool. I wouldn't mind having a chair like that. I think from the site it is a Willow tree. www.pooktre.com
  6. The 4.1 doesn't have a sub-line in. To us it, you woul dneed to convert you RCA sub out of your reciever to a the 1/8" female jack to be able to plug into one say the front jack off the 4.1 control pod. This should work. The only thing is the sub has its own built in crossover that you can't change. Granted it should be set high enough that you should be ok in general. I'm thinking this due to the the small sats which would crossover a little higher, say 120'ish and thus shuld give you the headroom for a normal ~80Hz crossover from the LFE channels. You can get the RCA-1/8" female adaptor at like a radioshack or someplace online. I don't see any harm in trying, but take no responisibility for any damages to the amp board.
  7. Finally! One of my consultants has been waiting. He tried out and loved my X10's and liked my co-workers Custom-2's, but preferred the comfort of my X10's, but not the price, so well, X5's wpould seem to fit his budget and comfort level. How about a referral code?
  8. But that's the point, if you can treat a room to eliminate the extra reflected energy which is reinforcing the highs, why can't you do the opposite, and add in say refraction points to help bolster the highs if you lacking it due to the current redesign. If you want a sound of 8 at your seat, and you currently getting 9, you treat the room, to subtract 1, to get 8. If your hearing 7 at your seat and want, 8, you need to add +1.... ok bad example....but maybe it helps get the point across. In my head it makes sense to be able to do so, but really the treatment of room was kill those certain refraction points and frequencies to tame response. Doing the opposite isn't easily done, I think. If your at that point, maybe just knock the room down and start over?
  9. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-9995498-47.html?tag=blgfd Danley Sound Labs' Matterhorn Subwoofer Beasty... I don't see any real data from it in terms of frequency repsonse.
  10. I would think you need to change the speaker size setting within the Onkyo reciver. I would think to use Large for the RF82's, but small works just as well. Preference really. I don't know how else you would set a crossover in this setup. Phase should be irrelavent as you only have 1 sub. Crossover should be set to 80Hz on the receiver.
  11. Man they look nice. Congrats. I thought I was sensing sarcasm when I read about there usage as surrounds.... apparently not. 2ch setup all the way. I definately want to see if I will be able to audition them or the larger brothers maybe in the winter. I could see myself getting a pair of these in spring.
  12. I deal with Computer at work, and if the screen says "hit any key to continue" and I repeat that to them, do I really want them asking me where the 'any' key is on the keyboard.... and yes it has happened..numerous times. You do at times get to a point where you don't want to be asked anymore about it. Are all the questions stupid? No, but imho sometimes the stupid questions are the ones answering themselves....if they only thought over it for a second more.
  13. What lense? I could see if you where shotting with like a 10-15mm maybe, but I still notice it on that even. Canon/Nikon?
  14. I agree with the first 4,but what got me was Tom Morello at 47 and Slash at 44?? Wow. Tom has such mastery over the guitar, that cover bands can't even come close to him. He's in a different league for making the guitar sing in unusual ways. Just my $0.02.
  15. In the past when I played with subs in my car.... ...rattling is mainly from the construction of the car. Seal up and tighten anything you can in the car. The stuff rattling is lost engery output of your sub vs more music. Even see the events where they are all pushing on and holding the car to stop it vibrating to larger SPL's? ...as for vented or sealed, I thought it would more depend on the design of the sub. Most work fine for either, but some are more optimal. I would think for the car maybe a 2.5cuF box for sealed and 3.5cuF box for vented. I use to take the specs of the sub into WinISD and play around with box sizes till I get the baseline frequency response I wanted. Most subs will have a recommended size enclosures.
  16. All DVR's that I am aware of had HDD's in them. As with your PS3 or XBox360. I would say 2' is more then safe. I know my Heresy's need to be around 2' from my CRT.
  17. BE36, your correct. It doesn't work 100% but works well enough. I think Yahoo has a similar tool called babelfish. It gets you close enough, but don't forget we throw so much slang around not and abbreviate things.
  18. More like german.... Maybe this helps. http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.musik-hifi-stammtisch.de%2Fwbb2%2Fthread.php%3Fthreadid%3D7210&hl=en&ie=UTF8&sl=de&tl=en
  19. Michael, Where can I find some background info on your collection. I'm sure there is an intersting story or thread behind it. I'm really curious as to your plans for the Pro Gear and where you acquired it from. That is definately an impressive collection of stuff you have.
  20. To the pioint it is similair as to what Mercedes has done with the C Class. They went to go for the masses, to help them keep building the AMG and high end S class stuff. You get a taste and want to move up the line. Cars are different then speakers, but same principle. The whole thing has worked for me. For me it was getting Promedia 4.1's to 5.1 ultra's to quintet III's to images to getting Heresy's. Who knows where I'll stop. Upgradeitis is right.
  21. Water Injection is a lovely thing. Better MPG, nah, but you can get more horsepower out of your car. I know one or two guys who use it on their turbo'd car, and they love it. I wasthinking about installing a kit, but opted not to. I won't see a big return on power for how lightly tuned I have my car right now. Just note that these systems make the water spray a pretty fine mist. Like you guys where going at, you want it to feel like its very humid, but don't want water drops. To much water and you will lock up you engine. Water has great thermodynamic principles, and helps soak up that heat, so you prevent detenation in your cylinder. Thus you can pump more air and fuel into the cylinder creating a nicer burn for more power.
  22. I mentioned this in the Miller Time thread, but I guess it's more appropriate here now that I found this thread. Blue Point Brewery in Patchogue, LI, NY has a set of Quintet II's in the tasting room/bar area.
  23. The speaker wire should have nothing to do with the sub rumbling. It definately sounds like an amp issue with the sub, something in the circuit.
  24. I agree with you, but the setup is only temporary. It was ontop of the speaker or not hooked up at all right now. I just wanted to make sure the amp worked, and haven't listened to it much yet. I guess it would be a bad idea to put the tube amp in my boat huh? lol. OB, I like them a lot so far. unfortunately they are not optimally setup in terms of spacing and seating, but so far I am very impressed.
