  1. Is this the pro amp world? No. Maybe the ego is useful there, though.
  2. 1.25kW RMS with 3kW peak is massive no matter which way you want to slice it.
  3. The Velodyne is specced at +/-3dB @ 14Hz so with two it could be around 13Hz for the -3dB point. I think that's ground plane. That said, with the KPT-684 the quoted specs need adjustment for comparison as they are for 3m, half space anechoic. Room gain and a pair could get them digging a lot deeper before being overtaken on the deep bottom end.
  4. To be a contestant for the Darwin Awards one must have removed themselves from the gene pool in some spectacularly idiotic fashion. This one doesn't appear to qualify.
  5. Trey, are you seriously suggesting a Jube front end (L+C+R) for a 5000 cubic foot room? That volume isn't very big. Isn't such a Jube front end just a little bit excessive for that volume?
  6. I run an all III series Heritage HT with Heresy IIIs as centre and surrounds. There is nothing, absolutely nothing lacking in the Heresy III in this application for home theatre use or for music (for mains or surrounds).
  7. Wouldn't it just as easy to make a separate housing for the plate amp and have it as a separate, self contained amp unit? That way you don't have to go to the trouble of hacking the KP-115 about.
  8. Not a lot of money required at all. A few hundred will get you the materials to build a horn loaded (or tapped horn) sub. Assuming you have the motivation, access to some tools and copious amounts of beer (you ARE in college - you MUST have access to beer) you can have a sub that digs a lot deeper than 18Hz and sounds a lot better than subs costing many, many times more. It won't be pretty. It won't be small. It will loosen your floorboards and fillings, though. I'd do it if I had the time, motivation and tools. I already have copious amounts of beer, which could be why I don't have the time, motivation and tools. [:$]
  9. I think you're missing the good stuff below 25Hz.
  10. How do you do it manually? With an outboard parametric EQ unit on each channel?
  11. What was stated is this: 'It is a fact of law that if if you buy something from me without a written contract, you cannot force me to sell it to you...' That is without qualification and as the law stands is an incorrect generalisation. If a desire for accuracy, rather than advancment of generalities without any limitation or qualification of applicability is evidence of having taken 'Contracts with the Wizard' then I guess I did. [8-)]
  12. I learned a lot of things in law school and much more in subsequent legal practice. One of them was not to confuse personal anecdotes with the state of the law.
  13. Which law school do they teach that in?
  14. So there's no hold on funds on your CC until they ship? If so, you haven't paid for the item yet and Emotiva aren't a storage yard. It would be different if they actually charged the card but in that event you still aren't paying for storage.
  15. Well, try mirroring your front L+R to the rear L+R when you have identical or near identical speakers F+R. Then come back and tell me it's not an incredible stereo event.
  16. There was never any doubt in relation to output, though I'd need to see some measurements showing the distortion levels on the clarity side of the equation. More to the point, if intending to cross at 35Hz, why bother with the KPT-684s at all? What's wrong with the KPT-KHJ-LF from 35Hz up? Err, right. What's my location again? []
  17. That's a little surprising. I would have thought that although the sheer output of the KPT-684s in the higher frequencies used for general rock would be much higher than the HGS, the accuracy of the HGS would be better due to the servo control. The ultra low frequency dominance of the HGS is not surprising at all. Maybe this is where the rubber hits the road in the HGS v DD. The parametric EQ and extra configuration control in the DD does help a lot. Further, it should be noted that one can set the subsonic filter of 15Hz to have a rather gentle 6dB slope. Thus, with in room gain there is still usable output down to around 10-11Hz and with two DDs on deck, significant output.
  18. Spend on a product which can be used on other TVs and monitors rather than just a single service: http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-mc.php Or just TVs: http://spyder.datacolor.com/product-ht.php
  19. Those prices are pretty savage. [] For the price of a pair of La Scalas you could have three jubes delivered to your door in Brisbane. (Trust me. I have the quote in my hands.) In any event, if you're willing to spend you can have things like KHorns. Get a second hand pair stateside for $2000 - $2500K US. Even if you spend $2000 in shipping and then customs clearance you're still getting them in your grubby mitts for the price of a pair of Heresys.
  20. Images like those prove I am not at all crazy with a pair of Velodyne DD-18s.
  21. One problem is space. Homes have been gradually shrinking in size for the last 4 decades at least. There's no longer enough space for 'big'. Only in recent years has there been the dedicated home theater to replace that lost space and those dedicated home theaters aren't likely to be used for music, even background music. How could they when they are generally soundproofed or distant from the common living areas?
  22. Edge do mainly pro gear. Powermove do the consumer stuff. Good luck getting a reponse from either. Powermove are absolutely shocking. Edge took nearly two months and a needed a direct intervention from a Klipsch VP to reply to me when I was shopping for Jubes.
  23. Sorry, but I disagree. I think the Swedish Bikini Team would be a better addition than some neon light.
  24. Why sell? It's troublefree and great value, right?
