  1. $900 for both pieces in mint condition with the cases and original boxes? Run, do not pass go, and withdraw said funds from the bank and take these beauties into your possession. That is a killer deal. Here is the link to Terry's website: http://www.mcintoshaudio.com/dewick_repairs.htm I don't recall what he charged to work on my 2105 & 26, but it was reasonable. I'll see if I can find my receipt over the weekend. I gave him carte blanche to do whatever was necassary to bring them back to snuff and he was still well within the ballpark. The shipping of such heavy items with insurance will be substantial, but considering you are picking them up as well as having auditioned them in person, makes your deal very attractive. Good luck.
  2. msutton, Go fo it! If you can pick up the MC-2105 & the C-27 for $1250-$1400, you would have a great deal. Did the owner indicate any asking price? On the plus side, the cases add some additional value and on the other side of the ledger, the pieces are between 35-40 years old or thereabouts and will need some servicing by Mr. Terry Dewick. So factor that into your bid. In mint shape, with the cases, I think the upper limit of my bid would be $1500. This is based on what I paid for my MC-2105 and C-36 Pre, without cases and prior to sending them off to Terry for servicing. You will love the combo with your new/used Cornwalls, I drive my Chorus II's with mine and love the sound. Good Luck and let us now what happens.
  3. Bellco, welcome to the forums. I have done many trades with HudsonValleyNoah and he is a man of his word. His items are exactly as described and he packs said items very carefully. Noah is a stand up guy. Stephen.
  4. Merkin, if your looking for some Chicago blues check out the Alligator Records 20th and 25th anniversary compilations. Most of the artists on their roster are represented. A great introduction to a wide spectrum of blues artists. Charlie Musselwhite, Tinsley Ellis, Katie Webster, Little Charlie & the Nightcats, etc...
  5. Welcome back. You may wish to put this in the "Garage Sale" Forum, you will see some more foot traffic over there.
  6. Dominant play by Alabama on both sides of the ball, I hope Ingram wins the Heisman Trophy. How is it possible that no player from 'Bama has won the Heisman? Great game by McElroy the 'Bama QB. I had to fly the Saint Patrick's Cross flag on Sunday, you folks from the Great State of Alabama know what I mean. [] http://www.doyle.com.au/st_pats_flag.htm a/k/a The Crimson Cross of St. Andrew.
  7. A tremendous post GLA51, I don't care if you typed that standing on your flat head! Or should I say Jar Head. [] Makes me want to upgrade my H II's, although they don't have a lot of mileage on them. The Heresy to me at least, are among the most sensitive to placement and room dynamics of the Klipsch that I own.
  8. Picked up a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 36,000 on it, 2 Thanksgivings ago after some turkey decided to drive through my '99 Cherokee Sport on the Long Island Expressway while traffic was at a full stop. She's got 54,000 miles on it, no complaints other than 17-18 mpg. Used only on weekends as my wife and I leave the city to head out to our house. I've run every car I have owned into the ground, so I'll run this until 100K and then retire it out to the house to use as my beach car out there. Right now my other car which I leave at the house is a 1993 Ford Econoline V-8 Conversion van. (L.A West) It's got 104,000 on it and I have owned it for 8 years. My Uncle gave it to me with 88K on her. Great for runs to Costco and allows me to go play golf or go fishing without stranding the wife without wheels. Also keeps extra miles off of the primary ride.
  9. Mallette, I agree with your points and I was refering to "his" ears when I said it was a "nominal loss". I listened to Mp3's on my stereo and it sounded like someone had thrown a Dolby switch onto the music. Muddy at best. I would imagine to you, someone who has done extensive recording and studio work, the compression rates are unmusical at best. Especially when it comes to classical music, which I find to be the most demanding form of music, on both the system and one's own ears. Me, I'm going retro and just bought a Dual CS-5000 Turntable to start playing my old LP's that I haven't listened to in years. I'll see for myself if the warm/analog sound of which I have heard is present in my vinyl collection. [Y]
  10. 15 homes, including 2 castles, one in Germany and one in England, 4 yachts, 9 Rolls Royces, etc...His manager told him he needed to earn $30 million per year just to maintain his current lifestyle. All of his real estate holdings are under water and he owes the IRS $6+ million. This is a self inflicted situation and he has no one to blame but himself. What to do? Sue your manager, of course, for financial misconduct. How about someone taking personal responsibilty for their actions? He fancied himself a real estate mogul, buying properties in a one way market. Ooops, credit market meltdown leads to real estate collapse. I guess he forgot the first rule of trading, "Even a turkey flies in a windstorm", also known as "A rising tide lifts all boats."
  11. Not to muddy the waters, but the Chorus II's deserve consideration in this matter. Smaller footprint than both the La Scala and the Cornwall and no need for a sub. Certainly capable of filling up the room in question.
  12. It certainly sounds like the Original Poster of this thread has an excellent stereo and if the convenience of using MP3's coupled with a nominal loss of sonic quality is a winning situation for him, who am I to criticize his choices? I bet it sounds better than the vast majority of the stereo rigs in the country. From my own personal experience I hooked my Ipod up to my stereo, McIntosh-2105, C-26 Pre and Klipsch Chorus II speakers, and noticed a 5-10% decline in sound quality compared to cds played throught the same rig. Now my files were not Loseless, just whatever the standard conversion that Itunes uses. So for me it didn't work, but then again I think well recorded cds sound good, and yes, I have had my hearing checked recently and the audiologist was impressed by my test scores. The wife doesn't understand how this is possible since I somehow miss some of the things she tells me. [*-)]
  13. 'Come on baby, let's go downtown", "Let's go, let's go, let's go downtown"! I always thought that his run of albums; "On the Beach', "Tonight's the Night", & "Zuma" were his best work. Great tours as well. [H]
  14. I agree with the idea that the Cornwalls would blend more seemlessly with the La Scalas, than would the Reference. Go Heritage.
  15. Hopefully not for long. Disgraceful act, attacking unarmed soldiers preparing to defend our country. May God have mercy on their souls and ease the pain their families are surely enduring at this terrible time.
  16. My condolences to your family on the unexpected loss of a beloved family member. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
  17. It's not so much the volume that changes, it's more what is being played that changes. Out goes the Ella, Frank, and more mellow rock and on goes the Allman Bros, heavier Coltrane and some of the more esoteric Richard Thompson. My wife has decent taste in music which certainly helps, so I take her into consideration before throwing on early Genesis or Soft Machine. [H]
  18. Pettitte can be had on 3 days rest, his career stats on short rest are: 4-6 W-L & a 4.15 ERA in 14 starts. Taking 2 from the Yanks in the Bronx will be a tall order, though.
  19. Was the reviewer stoned on blow when he wrote that review?
  20. Sorry, but I can't seperate the music from the man, as such I wouldn't spend my money on anything of MJ's which would benefit his dysfunctional family. YMMV.
  21. Really great job, JH. Custom La Scalas, "La Belles"??? [] You should be very proud.
  22. I cannot speak to the Cornwall III having not heard them, but by all accounts they are an excellent speaker. I own both Chorus II's and Cornwall II's. They trade in the used market around the same dollar values. Each has it's attributes, weigh the same and have similiar footprints, with the Cornwall the wider of the two. I don't believe you could make a mistake buying either speaker as they both handle a wide variety of music well. It seems that the majority of the forum members prefer the Cornwall over the Chorus, but there is a vocal minority of us that would take the Chorus as our first choice. Perhaps it is that I have owned the Chorus for longer and have become enamored of its' sound. For you it will come down to price, if that is a consideration, the condition of the cabinets, shipping costs and if you have the ability to demo the speakers to see which ones you prefer. All in all, a pleasant situation to be in.
  23. This is just the icing on the cake of a terrible year for the NY Mets. Not only are the hated Yankees in the World Series, but they play against the defending Champion Philadelphia Phillies. What's a Met fan to do? Besides hang our heads in shame? Root for the Yankees and their obnoxious fans, or root for the punk Phillies and perhaps the most vile sports fans in the country? I mean really, Philly sports fans threw snow balls at Santa Claus! The Perfect Storm for us poor ba$tards, we are truly cursed. Go Phhh, Go Phhi, I can't bring myself to say it.[:$][:@][:#]
  24. Wow! that veneer looks like something from an old Fillmore light show.[H]
