  1. I had a set of 61s and 81s running in the same HT setup. They were awesome speakers. Curoius to see if the IIs are noticibly better. Dont see how they could get much better considering the size
  2. With regard to mixing ref with heritage here is my story beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I am not knocking Ref gear- I love the RC 64 which may very well be the best center on the planet in a ref situation. I have owned almost every ref speaker in the line up at one time. I had a top of the line ref HT setup. I was somewhat disapointed with the 2 ch playback. The HT was amazing. I got this idea to mix K horns fronts- Industrial Lascalla rears with an RC64 center and the top of the line ref bookshelfs. I could switch the K horns back and forth for HT fronts and 2 ch- so I thought. Senior forum members begged me not to do it. Of course i was smarter that them so i bought an rc 64 and the ref bookshelfs for sides in my 7.1 ht system. It became apparent that it was not to be. could never get the system matched as the speakers sounded different. Welcome to theterm "horn mismatch". long story short- my forum buddies got some killer deals on the ref speakers. I took a not so small hit and began buying Heritage replacements. The end result was nothing short of awesome. I did have to raise my TV to fit above the center lascala which was raised up to K horn height(very important IMHO) I miss my RTC 64 badly and hope to eventually have another onei in another room/system. Everybodys taste is different but i would never mix the 2. Good luck- Hope your deal works out
  3. The zip cord developed hum noises and some crackle over a period of time. My fault- I would get a new component- run out to lowes or radio shack and hook it up. Upon removal I found what apeqared to be babroken/frayed places with evidence of burned areas. I blamed the noises on my interconnects which was not the case. i am not an electrical engineer or an expert but I can tell you that the problems disappeared when changed out the wire to the belden 12-2- an exact equivalent of blue jean. The system is brighter warmer and free of hums and noises. I have seen outright breaks in Monster stuff fresh off the reel. garbage- I have seen new monster interconnects literaly fall apart at the connector. Other forum members will back me up on this. I am convinced that the BJ stuff is far superior to the box store variety which has quality issues. IMHO the 12-2 belden is a no brainer unless you want to go the audioquest route and spend a fortune.
  4. The problem with Klipsch is no dealers around to listen to the high end stuff. if so there would be many more high end stuff around. It just sounds so much better than the other stuff. i was fortunate enough to hear it in person at forum member homes
  5. good to hear from all really enjoying the outside speakers sipping on some Jose curevo with some lime - contreau- cuervo mix and OJ on the patio earlier- it is COLD here- had to wear a jacket Smoked a Partagas series D double robusto- excellent wiating on another shipment of cubans later on this week dealing with college tuition issues- youngest son willbe gone off to college later on in a few months-really depressing looking at no kids in the house all the things we should have done together with no time available hindsight is always 20/20- oh well cheers to all
  6. Not familar with the THX. I have tried lots of speakers in the reference line- RC 64- Rf 83s- all of the Ref top of the line bookshelfs for sides and rears. Attempted to mix the k horns with some reference stuff for superior 2 ch and HT. Could not get it to work. Horn mismatch. I have gone to modded heritage K horns- fronts- lascala center= Modded belles for side surrounds- industrial lascallas for rears- The lascallas will be moded in a similar manner as the others. This setup with 2" horms on the K horns moves a large volume of air/sound and really fills the room. I have heard many high line HT setups and this one tops most if not all of them. I honestly think tweaked Heritage is as good as you can get for HT or 2 CH. I think outboard power amps are also important. I strongly vote for the heritage however not having heard the other choice- good luck IMHO K horns with 2" trachorns- ALK universal crossovers- Large JBL drivers- will out perform any reference speaker for HT or 2 ch applications- of course that is just my opinion. There is a radical difference from stock configuration in sound.
  7. Do you have a police supply place in your area? if so look at theri stuff. Most are banged around in a squad car but have little actual wear. Lots of older Remington 870s that will do just fine- If new look at the Beneli Novas.

  9. Pulled the trigger on a set of KH0 7s- Lots of speaker for the $$$$$$ HG has them on sale for 130.00 each +tax- running them on my 2 ch setup using the Peach -VRDs-and the Jolida CD- very nice for the money

Ran speaker wires outside yesterday- looking for a set of outside speakers for not much cash- cant use the 650 rock speakers- they will get stolen. One of the hospital senoir administrators was shot dead in at 11:00 in trhe morning walking back from the coffee shop- robbery a block from my house on good friday- 65 yr old vet retired bird colonel. Pretty unnerving. ben- your ginger is in the super market now- gotta try some soon- hope efverybody is doing OK. Cheers
  13. I have tried lots of different setups changing wire- here is my 2 cents worth Monter wire products are thin ga wire with a lot of plastic coating and fancy packaging- I have had numerous issues with their products oin general including their upper end power strips- gather the stuff up and toss it in the trash. I wasted a lot of money on Monster garbage. I bought off on the idea that 14 ga Lowes zip cord was perfectly fine- it is not Go to bluejean or the vendor of choice and buy the belden 5200ue 12-2 for your application hint- you can buy this in bulk from a local wholesale house such as Liberty wier and cable in bulk- 500 or 1000 ft rolls for about 45-50 cents a foot. i am in the process of replacing all of my HT speaker wire with this tomorrow- I have a 500 ft roll sitting in my garage. i played around with this product and i think I hear a difference. Good luck
  14. I have to buy something today-hopefully locally- will post results- spent all afternoon yester day running the cables- found a 500 ft roll of belden 5000ue for 260.00 out the door from liberty wire and cable- nice looking stuff for this application.will post results I hope BB has a set in stock
  15. Not repairable- pretty much shot- local guy- Speaker doctor of charlotte charges around 70-100 for the repair
  16. Been there done that The havart method got rid of them. bait the trap with canned tuna-they cannot resist it- use latex gloves when handling the trap-rthe critters are very trap shy when human scent is present on the traps- we had them in a chimney at my parents house-chlorox spray sent them packing. Be very careful when releasing them- they carry rabies in many cases- very nasty critters
