  1. It's been more than 20 years since I had a pair of Belles but best I can recall the grill frames slid straight forward and the tophats were held on by wood screws. I don't recall ever removing the grills or tophats though.
  2. I'm thinking ship's hulls and aircraft. I don't know how much weight an airliner is carrying when it flies through rain but I'll bet it's substantial. From what I'm reading it ain't exactly cheap at $159 a quart that covers 42 square feet. Hopefully wide spread adoption will lead to improvements in manufacturing effecienies and lower prices. It would take almost 82 quarts to cover the outside of my house at a cost of ~ $13,000. There's a product for glass with similar called RainX. When properly applied you don't need to use the wipers so long as your moving. I've used the stuff on every car I've owned for years now.
  3. Check this stuff out - hydrophobic and oleophobic coating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfUaKXasdD4&feature=player_embedded#!
  4. *** SOLD *** I took these in on trade for some other eqipment I was selling. I'm not a headphone user so I'll pass them along to someone who can get some enjoyment out of them. Detailed info about them can be found here: http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/Headphones/Headphones/P5/Overview.html These are in absolutely perfect condition. I can't find so much a single mark or flaw anywhere on them. A couple of light marks on the box but other than that they appear to be brand new. Included is the original packaging, 1/8" to 1/4" adapter, iPod cable (?), and soft carrying pouch. Asking price is $200 delivered to a CONUS address. No additional charge for PayPal. Thanks for looking!
  5. I feel for you. Tape prices have really spiked in the last couple of months. I no longer own any R2R hardware but for some reason I still check tape prices. My best guess is that the supply is drying up. R2R use has seen a a resurgence in popularity the last couple of years. I'm seeing pre-recorded 7" tapes that I sold for 5 or 10 bucks now going for 50 to 100 bucks. I guess I should have waited a little longer. I just shudder when I think of the lot of 50 pre-recorded tapes that I sold for $250 and felt like I'd made out like a bandit. Today I could get several thousand for those. As more and more refurbished R2R decks come in to use hopefully someone will see a business opportunity and go back in to the tape production business. Surely the formulation patents have long since expired. The manufacturing process was mastered years ago so rocket science isn't necessary. Sounds to me like a "niche" market just waiting to be fulfilled Where did you get your Otari? Did Mike Lindsey hook you up with the folks that did the refurb on his? That was a really nice deck. I got to play with it for a couple of hours. Somehow I never managed to own an Otari (wanted to) though I think I owned just about every other brand at one point or another. I always had a "soft spot" for the Revox machines and owned several of them. Loved every one.
  6. I just finished watching it. As someone that hangs around these parts so often says... Top Notch.
  7. Those are the caps I put in my 84 HBRs. It was a nice improvement over the originals. No complaints from me.
  8. I was doing a little clean out this morning for a trip to the Goodwill and I found this guy in the bottom of my T-shirt drawer. It's either never been worn or not worn very much. It's from the 2000 Supernatural tour. Size = XL. No tears, snags, or stains. All of the printing is excellent. By the way... What a great show that was. Macy Gray opened for him and did a hell of a set. That was the first time I'd heard her and have been a fan since. Of course Mr. Santana just knocked it out of the park. We had 7th row seats for that one. Asking price is $15 plus actual shipping. No additional charge for PayPal. Thanks for looking!
  9. I haven't upgraded to 14 yet but I do have a box here running Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon. I've been VERY pleased with it. So much so that I'm in no hurry to upgrade. What I've found with pretty much any flavor of Linux is that it's WAY more useable (speed wise) on older and slower hardware. I know that 13 works well streaming Pandora and my local FM station. I haven't tried streaming from my music server though. It doesn't cost anything but a little bit of time to try. I say go for it.
  10. I would LOVE to change providers. Unfortunately my only options are the Verizon DSL that I currently have, the satellite services such a Wild Blue or Hughesnet, or ComCrap... Err... I mean Comcast cable. The satellite services are saddled with ping times so slow that they're a last resort. My last experience with ComCrap was that is was down more than it was up. If you complained and asked for a credit what you got was even more down time. Locally they no longer offer internet only access. I would have to get access as part of a "bundle" that includes TV and phone. And all at a price that I just can't afford right now . I simply don't watch enough TV to justify the $$ that Comcast wants. I like my $38 a month dry pair DSL (when it works) and my $20 a year Magic Jack phone service. It works for me on the cheap most of the time. Going with one of the satellite providers would mean losing my VOIP phone service. This is what's called "being stuck between a rock and a hard place".
  11. Could be my utterly craptastic Verizon DSL service too. They keep telling me the FIOS is coming "soon" but I doubt that I'll live long enough to see it. Verizon told me that DSL service was coming "soon" to my neighborhood for 6 years before they finally turned it up. "Pay more and get less" should be the official Verizon slogan in my opinion.
  12. I've been trying to PM you the answer but it looks like the PM system is jacked up again. On the other hand you might well have received the PM from me 3 times now. Yes... the answer would most certainly make this thread disappear.
  13. One of the best uses ever of a popular song in a movie. RIP Mr. Presley.
  14. I know the answer but I ain't going there... [A]
  15. That's a beauty. When my parents tried to sell their Cherry (I think) early 70's Baldwin upright a couple of years ago nobody responded at any price. It was in absolutely mint condition and had been recently tuned after being moved from their vacation home in North Carolina. They couldn't believe that nobody was interested. I didn't have room for it at my house or I would have taken it. They ended up donating it to the local church run thrift store.
  16. The manual for the ADC Sound Shaper is available at www.hifiengine.com Not your exact model but it should be close enough to help you get it hooked up. You have to register with the site in order to download manuals but I've never had them send me anything.
  17. *** SOLD *** I wish I had room for this guy where I'm moving to but I just don't. Up for sale is my LG model number 50PS60 50" Plasma TV. It's a bit over two years old but hasn't had very much use as I tend to watch TV at night in my bedroom. About the only thing I ever watched on it was football during the season (too bad so many of the Bucs games are blacked out) and an occasional Blu-Ray movie. It's in excellent condition and operationally perfect. It has a terrific picture. The internal HDTV tuner is quite good. I'm receiving over 60 channels off of one of those little "flying saucer" antennas from Radio Shack. Included is the TV, remote, power cord, micro-fiber cleaning cloth, and original paperwork. The original box and packing is available if desired. Also included is a low profile wall mount. Detailed information about this set can be found at: http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-50PS60-plasma-tv Even though I have the box and packing there is no way that I'd entertain shipping it. The is a local cash & carry deal only. I know it won't fit in my little car but I might be able to borrow a truck and deliver it within a reasonable distance of my house for the cost of gas. Asking price is $400.00 Thanks for looking!
  18. They've been doing that for a while now. At least to me. As I recall it's a 21 day hold on the funds or until the buyer places positive feedback or the seller proves delivery. I think it's limited to only certain catagories with "electronics" being number one. This is the biggest reason that after 12 years of selling on eBay they no longer get any of my $$. I have several antique and collectable items that I'd like to sell but would prefer to NOT use eBay. I'm on the hunt for other venues.
  19. You can get a 84" LG 4K TV for the paltry sum of $16,998.00 + shipping.
  20. I have no financial advise for you. Simply condolences for your recent loss.
  21. False start. [] Still available.
  22. 7 whole minutes. That has to be a record.
  23. I ran this guy as a media center in my bedroom for a couple of years. When I got my Roku early last year this PC got put in the guest room for occasional email and web browsing. I have hooked it back up and ran it for 3 or 4 days to make sure that everything worked as it should. It works just fine. No issues whatsoever. What we have here is (1) an Intel D865PERL motherboard, (2) an Intel P4 3.4GHz CPU (800 MHz FSB/1MB L2), (3) 1 GB of DDR memory (the board will take up to 4 GB), (4) an ATI 9550 video card, (5) a MASSCOOL fan, and (6) a Microsoft MC remote control. Also included is the quick reference guide and case sticker for the MOBO, the Intel and ATI driver CDs. If you want them I have 3 more sticks of DDR RAM (a 512Mb and 2 256Mb) that I can throw in the box at no extra cost. The video card is fanless to reduce machine noise. The MASSCOOL fan is a lot quieter than the original Intel OEM fan but not completely silent. When I was using it I had it sitting beside my dresser about 14' from me and I couldn't hear it running. What I really liked about this MOBO is that it has SPDIF optical and coaxial outputs that made it easy to hook up to my 5.1 receiver. Of course it also has a full set of analog 5.1 audio outs. Asking price is $40 for everything delivered to a CONUS address. No additional charge for PayPal. Thanks for looking!
  24. Loved the pictures. Thanks for the link. World War 1 was an abomination at every level. So SO many men were killed or maimed. In the millions. One would think that loss of life at that level would cause world leaders to rethink armed conflict. Sadly it didn't. World War 2 killed almost twice as many. As a species on this blue rock there is much that we need to learn. One of the things that we've learned all to well is how to exterminate each other in vast numbers. This is a lesson that I think we'd be better off forgeting.
