  1. Two ears, Two speakers. Even with movies I never feel like I am missing anything without a sub. forte II owner. Best regards, John
  2. Why would one be banned from a forum if the "Reason" had nothing to do with "Online Activity" as it relates to this forum??? Best regards, John
  3. 13 years ago today Paul Klipsch left us. RIP Paul!
  4. Derrick & jjptkd I agree I never play at ear bleeding levels. The point I was trying to make was that an increase in performance will be heard and felt accross the entire volume spectrum. Best regards, John
  5. I am confused - CHORUS 1 is rated at 100 watts - you are suggesting 3x or 6x the rating - how can the speaker hold up with 3x or 6x the rating - aren't you going to blow components http://www.klipsch.com/chorus-floorstanding-speaker/details That is what your volume control is for. Sorry did not mean to come off sarcastic. Your speakers are rated at 100 continuous, 1000 watts peak. Best regards, John
  6. As Old Timer mentioned, reserve capacity power is what you are looking for. An amp with caps the size of beer cans, something with more than 60,000 UF of filter capacitence. This is what provides the "OMPH" or "Headroom" you need. My amp is rated at 250 continuous but has been bench tested at well over 300 prior to cliping. 2 Channel forte II setup. This type of arrangement INMHO provides for difficult passages and or loads. Use an amp capable of literally driving as close to a 0 ohm load as possible.
  7. Worth every penny and then some. When you consider that factoring in inflation an average sale price back then for about $1,000.00 equals at least $3,500.00 plus today. My forte II are in the same pristine condition as yours. INMHO the forte, forteII, & CF4 are among the best balanced speakers Klipsch ever made. I would not settle for less than $700.00 if they were mine. Surprised they are still around at that price. Best regards, John
  8. In my situation No toe in works best for me. My forte II with tractrix mid range horn sounds best with No toe in about 10 feet apart. Start with No toe in and adjust as needed. Depending on horn type, listening area, etc. You may be surprised and find that no toe in sounds best. Best regards, John
  9. PM sent on RSW15 Thanks. John
  10. Do you have original box and inserts for RSW15? If so would you consider shiping? Also, do you have a price in mind yet? Thanks, John
  11. Yes the family tree is as follows: Chorus = Papa Bear, Forte= Mama Bear, and Quartet = Baby Bear. When I purchased my forte II in 1992, I considered the Chorus II, but INMHO the forte II is a better balanced speaker and also digs lower than the Chorus II. The Quartet INMO is a Heresey with proper bass response. Great price if clean and in working order. Best regards, John
  12. Im thinkinking you dont use the fireplace very often??? Best regards, John
  13. I think the question at hand is "How much reserve power is required"? Reserve power INMHO is much more of a factor in a speakers performance than the number of watts being thrown at it. Reserve power gives you the headroom required for difficult passages or loads. I run a 250 WPC Channel power amp which provides close to a 100,000 PUF of storage power capacity. Strictly 2 channel setup with forte II. A good quality SS amp with 200 WPC + will not provide any more distortion than a 40 WPC amp. Most preamps will muddy the waters more than an amplifire. Best regards, John
  14. This is what I use as well. It sounds great in either mode and has a theater bypass mode as well. The passive section is more than just an attenuator it corrects the output impedance issue. A truly great pre that competes with units many times it's price. No phono section is the only minus. Bobdog; I agree both passive and active are very sweet sounding. I find myself favoring the passive mode in my setup about 80% of the time, which is determined by source material, etc. I find the bass response ever so slightly less "muddy" in the passive mode. Very slight, I am sure that cable choice could make a bigger difference. I remember a quote by Nelson stating that the passive mode was nothing more than a "wired pair". Nothing more, nothing less. Essentially the same pre-amp as the Pass Labs Alpha 1. Best regards, John Best regards, John
  15. I use the Adcom GFP 750 preamp. Has both passive and active stage. Developed by the great Nelson Pass. Very highly aclaimed pre amp. Used prices are between $850-$1,000 depending on condition and whether or not owner still has a functioning remote. See links below for more details. http://www.stereophile.com/solidpreamps/133/index.html http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_7_4/adcom-gfp-750-preamplifier-11-2000.html Best regards, John

    .22 LR

If you like the HMR, you have to try the new .17WSM Cartridge by Winchester and Federal. Come in 20 & 25 grain bullets. Almost twice the range and energy of the .17HMR. Bullets leave the barrel at 3,000 & 2,600 FPS based on bullet weight. Savage makes a gun for the round known as the B Mag. Browning has an offering as well. A gun chambered for .17HMR will not work with the .17WSM I picked up a Savage B Mag about a year ago. A real tack driver to 200 Plus yards.
  17. I have been a forte II owner since I bought a pair new in 1992. I have found over the last 20 plus years that forte and forte II fans are both deeply entrenched as to why they prefer 1 version over the other. I think you will have better luck selling yours and buying a pristine pair of forte II. Good luck! Best regards, John

You will probably find best bass response with them 12=18 inches away from wall. Those passives need a little room to breathe. For my set up I find no toe in to be best. Best regards, John

  22. Tried posting an image as benign as a safe, and I receive a message that "This thread extension is not allowed on this forum"??? How are you guys posting photo's of firearms? Refuses to allow for me???
  23. Exactly! Well, to each his own. That is why there are more flavors than vanilla! Expresso, glad to hear you are happy with the upgrade. Keep your phenolic diaphragms in case you want to revert, or if you ever decide to sell. Best regards, John
