  1. Next-level Basement Jaxx. Can't believe they sailed this performance under my radar.
  2. Yup. Clicked the 5.1 DSD 64 version onto memory stick and plugged that into the Oppo 103. from me! from her! Very good stuff right there, thank you for the link WB.
  3. How about an old Belkin Tunecast II? I see them used on eBay for ~$10. You'll need a wall wart too, but that's about it.
  4. College. It's where he graduated. It's just up the highway from El Paso, TX where he spent a part of his youth.
  5. All good. I'll post over there on that topic from here on out.
  6. What post # in the AVS forum refers to that? I'd like to discuss.
  7. Nope....what I'm saying is, if your body is exposed to sound energy in sufficient quantity that holding an SPL meter right next to your skin makes it read 105 dB SPL, that barring any significant nerve damage you're very likely to feel it, regardless of frequency. ...let's also keep in mind the context. I'm talking about being physically present in front of typical sound system with an SPL meter in hand. IOW not some random act like holding a pistonphone to my elbow.
  8. No doubt. Good topic for discussion.
  9. A better question would be, "Is SPL related to the OP's concept of tactile response?" I'd wager, "Yes, in time."
  10. I paraphrased the first 5 posts of that thread in my first response. SPL is still involved. It's just immediately dispensed as a contributing factor for the sake of argument. For why, I cannot fathom. The data are cool to look at, but that's about it as there is almost no structure. The entire thread is no less interesting , and it is good evidence of the difficultly involved in grasping the concepts of sound energy, power, and basic Metrology. There's a lot of blood shed that takes place in the first year physics and acoustics classes. That thread is what that bloodshed tends to look like. I'd tread carefully when attempting to directly reference stuff like this, and not to forget, we're essentially cross-posting a three year old thread. Which, incidentally, is dated about two years after Audyssey announced their LFC technology.
  11. Tactile response is simply a matter of SPL.....at any frequency. Natural frequencies aside, play anything loud enough, and eventually the body will "feel" something regardless. Infra sound at sufficient SPL will pulverize organic tissue. Ultra sound at sufficient SPL will burn it. 105 dB SPL at the listener is the magic number. That's sufficiently loud enough to be felt at any frequency. If the above weren't true, bookshelf speakers would be rather unexciting, and the decomposition of a square wave wouldn't look like this: and the energy/spectrum distribution wouldn't look like this:
  12. Case in point: (WARNING, listening to even a few seconds of the following audio clip could cause a brief, yet intense, negative introspective moment for having been suckered into clicking play) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL1UzIK-flA

  14. Pause button, comfy seat, better drinks, no driving/parking, etc. If you like YANNI, try giving Rahul Sharma & Kenny G's - Dance of the Elephant God a whirl on your K-Horns.
  15. To be expected. K-horn bass bin loads the room differently and has a lower Fc.
  16. Just passing this on...when you're in a pinch for a sharper blade.
  17. Adaptive is one company that offers hardware appropriate for flying or mounting. Search "speaker flyware" for options in that regard. They also have the hang fittings that attach to the sockets in the cabinets without modification. The KI-262 have 60X40 horns, so they'll work best toed in at 45 degrees. Where you want to place your screen/TV will dictate where the best spot to place them should be. Up in the rafters is okay for music, but a hefty compromise for surround sound. The speakers can be mounted backs up against the wall, but be sure to give them a radius of at at least three feet around the top, bottom, and sides that are free of walls/reflective surfaces. Up there, they'll need a steep 45 degrees of tilt in order to hear the horn, and keep them from bouncing sound straight off the garage doors.

  19. 37 states here. Lived in 8 of 'em. Favorite? That'd be impossible for me say. Like MKP said the country is huge, and with each parcel so varied by location, climate, geography, and people, it's really difficult to put a finger on. It's more like "favorite areas", than favorite state. Which also depends on the season, which is why traveling is always part of the plan.
  20. The one that trips up most AZ transplants is that Phoenix is situated northwest of here. Usually when one goes north it gets a little cooler, but that's not the case. It averages 10 degrees hotter than most of Tucson due to the lower elevation. Also, as the crow flies Tucson is ~200 miles from the Gulf of California. So it's a play on the senses when a stiff cold front rolls in from the west, making everything smell just like coast, yet it's all cactus and rugged mountains.
  21. Someone's flipping them. Three months from now, they'll be on eBay sold to someone in the UAE for $1200.
  22. Yes...since 1872. Here's an idea, and I'm just throwing this out there....how about posting solutions to the said problem instead? Figuring out first how to make the situation work for yourself, colleagues, or loved ones, and then post your solution here for the record? ...So that others may pick up the baton and run with it.
  23. +1 ...there's also the balancing act between large direct-view television sets and large center channel speakers. Cosmetics and acoustic performance are inversely proportional in that regard. AT screens and projectors solve that issue, but at the same time open another can of worms.
