  1. How about, "Unknown Soldier" - The Doors "I Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag" - Country Joe & The Fish "The Shape I'm In" - The Band "One Toke Over The Line" - Brewer & Shipley "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" - The Beatles "Fresh Air" - Quicksilver Messenger Service
  2. There's nothing like going into a restaurant or fast food joint and having them ask you if you're a "senior". First time it happened, I didn't know whether to lie or cry. Now I don't get insulted. I just take the discount even though I don't qualify yet. Damned grey hair (it's because I have daughters and I consider it a survival badge). I'm only going to be 55 @%#&*^#&%)*%#@ years old in a few weeks. Also I work part-time at the local Wally World, in the electronics dept. (at least that's what they call it). The younger guys in my dept. (i.e. everyone but me and the other retiree) have no clue about classic rock. Never heard the song "Smoke On The water" much less who recorded it. I'm slowly trying to educate these guys. I do however feel redeemed when someone comes in looking for some of those classics or older songs (quite frequently), and I hear them yell, "Get Lew, he's the music guy!"
  3. Rod Price died on Tuesday, March 22nd at his home in Wilton, New Hampshire. Apparently he was known there more for attending his son's sports events. From what I've read the locals there were not really that familiar with his musical backround. Foghat had several gold and platinum recordings. He was well respected in musical circles as a slide guitar player.
  4. 1. A Hard Days Night: My favorite Fab Four movie 2. Almost Famous: Great all around rock 'n' roll movie 3. The Doors: Val Kilmer makes a great Jim Morrison 4. FM: Has Linda Ronstadt concert footage (my honey, oh yeah!) 5. Urban Cowboy: Good mix of country & rock music and let's not forget Debra Winger on that mechanical bull.
  5. Guess I'm going to have to dig out my copy of "Classic Heep". I always got a kick out of seeing Uriah Heep on some of the '70s concert shows like "Midnight Special" and "In Concert". As to what I have been listening to this week: Crosby, Stills & Nash: "Greatest Hits", Cd, Classic Rock They did a very good remastering job on this. The vocals are excellent and it seems that the drum sounds are more detailed. Only complaint is that I'll need to pick up "Neil Young's Greatest Hits" cd and a remastered version of "Deja Vu". C,S&N GH does not have "Helpless" nor "Almost Cut My Hair" nor "Everybody I Love You" on it. This could have easily been a two cd set.

    Alison Krauss

I'm no fan of Bluegrass but that girl's voice just knocks me out. She did a pop album a few years back. Did a cover of "Baby, now that I've found you". I want to marry her every time I hear it! ---------------- You can find that song on Alison Krauss - Now That I've Found You: A Collection (Rounder CD 0325). It's a graet listen start to finish.
  7. My wife works out of our house, so I'm unable to listen to music (at a proper volume) during her working hours. Also, she is 16 years younger than me so the music we grew up on is alot different. She still thinks Donny Osmond is "a little bit rock and roll". Claims to dislike The Beatles, but whenever I have the Fab Four playing or someone covering one of their songs she has a tendency to comment on what a good song is playing. Heh, heh, heh. I love it. Anyway I'm a classic rock kind of guy and she's into contemporary country. She does apparently like Rush and I've come to dig Toby Keith. btw - Whenever she has to go out of town on a business trip, I crank up the RB-5IIs and the house is rockin'. Let the jams begin!
  8. I watched this a couple of nights ago. I'm not usually into animated movies, but this one sparked my attention for some reason. I enjoyed "The Incredibles" very much. It seemed there was an occaisional nod to the old James Bond movies. Even some of the music reminded me of the style of the earlier Bond movies.
  9. I recommend: Roy Orbison: Black & White Peter Frampton: Live In Detroit
  10. I've been listening to "The Essential Johnny Cash" (country) and "Heart & Soul" (pop/rock) by Joe Cocker. Check out his version of "Chain of Fools" Also someone mentioned Jimmy Smith. I was watching my Ed Sullivan DVD set the other night. After Steppenwolf performed/lip-synched, Sullivan was questioning the band members about their favorite artsis. Goldy McJohn the organist said his favorite artist was Jimmy Smith. He had to repeat this several times and Sullivan still wasn't getting it.
  11. The Beatles - "Something New", "Sgt. Pepper" & "Abbey Road" Led Zeppelin - "I" (Dazed and Confused does it for me every time.) Linda Ronstadt - "Heart Like A Wheel" & "Hasten Down The Wind" She's my all time favorite. Goose bumps every time I hear her. The Doors - "The Doors" & "Strange Days" Emerson, Lake & Palmer - "Trilogy" (Hoedown gets me going.)

    Contender

I know at one point Wal-Mart had this one for around $5.50 or $7.50. Don't know if they still carry it or not. Very good movie. I believe the main actress in this was Joan Allen. Another sort of political thriller is "Enemy Of The State" with Will Smith and Gene Hackman. This is also a very good flick.
  13. I've been wearing hearing aides for the last two years. My hearing loss is mostly due to playing in bands and DJing for 20+ years. I'm sure however that the volume of my Klipsch speakers doesn't help matters any. I guess I come from the old school of thought that all that classic rock was meant to be played loud. Just can't seem to help myself.
  14. I have this on a Mobile Fidelity set. It's an awesome concert recording. Sounds like everyone is at the top of their game. "Let It Rain" is also my favorite on this one.

    Grammys!

Ditto on Melissa Etheridge's performance. I also enjoyed the southern rock set. Don't get to see Elvin Bishop or Dickey Betts too often. Not to mention those guys from Lynyrd Skynyrd (I can still do without hearing Freebird again though - must be from all those years of having to play it again and again in the bars).
  16. I've been listening to a variety of music this week and generally driving my wife crazy. Elton John: Goodbye Yellowbrick Road (DVD-A) Steely Dan: Gaucho (DVD-A) Allman Bros. Band: Dreams (CD box set) Spencer Davis Group: Best Of SDG (CD) Terry Reid: Bang, Bang, You're Terry Reid (CD) The Zombies: Greatest Hits (CD) The Carpenters: The Singles (SACD) Jimmy Smith: DotCom Blues (CD) Plus a couple compilation CDs I made titled "My Happy Organ" - everybody from Dave "Baby" Cortez, The Rascals & The Doors to Deep Purple, The Animals & Rhinoceros. Gotta love those Hammond B-3, Farfisa & Vox organs.

  18. I just bought this DVD set at BB over the weekend. Awesome! Fantastic from start to finish. Like others, I was knocked out by Robert Randolph. Thought I was hearing Duane Allman in spots. Randolph is definitely on my list to buy. What a talent.
  19. From what I've read, this is the original line-up of Clapton, Bruce and Baker. From what I understand Baker and Bruce are still active musically. I saw Bruce a few years back on one of the Ringo Starr tours and also in a tribute to the Fab Four with Mark Farner (yes of Grand Funk Railroad), Alan Parsons, and Christopher Cross (still trying to figure out that one). From what I had read online via a Google search, they are considering a CD and/or DVD of the concert(s). I'd love to see this reunion come to the U.S. I was fortunate enough to see Cream's last tour in the states before they flew back to London and did the Royal Albert Hall shows. It was November 1968 at the Baltimore Civic Center. One of my fondest memories. Terry Reid (the guy who passed on joining Led Zeppelin after an invite by Jimmy page) was the bottom of the bill and The Moody Blues were the middle of the bill.
  20. Did you guys check out the Eric Clapton Crossdroads Guitar Festival DVD? Buddy Guy was pretty good in that one also. If you like blues in general I highly recommend you check it out. One of the standouts for me was a gent by the name of Robert Randolph playing blues on pedal steel.
  21. Our local Wal-Mart has the original for $8.88. Not a bad deal.
  22. I've got this one on the way from Netflix. If I like it I should have enough time to pick it up from Wally-World while it's still on sale.

    Catwoman

I watched "Catwoman" a couple nights ago. Halle Berry looks great in that leather outfit, cracks a mean whip and has a great strut. Otherwise this is a rather boring movie. The dialogue leaves alot to be desired. But Halle does look good in that outfit.
  24. I really enjoyed this movie. The bonus features are worth checking out also.
  25. My wife and I suffered through "Anchorman". Spent alot of time with thumb on fast forward. Biggest waste of time. Was there supposed to be humor in there? This was supposed to be a comedy, right? Glad it was just a Netflix rental.
