  1. Pass smoke test = no smoke. Yes very definitely a good thing After my mods I put an ohm meter on it first and there were no obvious shorts. Then first power up was with a Variac.
  2. Well the first unit is done and passed the smoke test last evening. Now to run some tests. Added balanced inputs using Jensen line input transformers, balanced outputs matching the impedance on pin 3 of XLR with the impedance on pin 2. Balanced or unbalanced operation is selectable by rear panel switch. Another rear panel switch selects mono/stereo operation. I did not want to have to add a Y cable externally to get the level detectors to work in single channel mode. Added nice gold plated RCA connectors for the unbalanced main I/O. I really do not care about the tape loop RCA connectors(who uses that sheet anymore?) so I left them as is. Also added DC power inputs so I can run unit from a remotely located power supply(I hate transfomer hum)
  3. Yea but did he try it?...there are way too many papers on acoustics that suggest ( I hesitate to use the word prove) that what people claim to hear when drivers are time aligned are really hearing something. You yourself know this of course ClaudeJ1.
  4. "you can't get'em in the USA, not in New York CIty, not in West LA"
  5. Just yankin' yer chain Jimbo... but those are pretty aren't they?
  6. @jasonyormark how is this going? Your AC power input cable should be a pretty tight fit. I mean the male tines in the receptacle should fit nice and snug on the female sockets in the power cord. It should not be sloppy(for lack of a better term) or easy to remove or fall out.
  7. Troubleshooting problem # 4. Just replace the 8 capacitors. Also pretty sure that lug on end of green wire just goes to the metal panel. Haven't the teeth of the lug dug into the metal of the panel at one of the screw holes? hard to tell from your picture.
  8. DC to coil? Yes by all means if it's under warranty send it back.

  10. Co father of the Linkwitz-Riley filter. Another ingenious fellow gone. RIP Herr Linkwitz. Check it out: http://www.linkwitzlab.com/
  11. Yep #5 above. Elevating the LaScala cannot be good for the bass. It gets the squawker and tweeter up closer to ear level though. i would think if you want that elevation the bass port mod would be a good way to go.
  12. @Tarheel and LF. Stay safe. My prayers are with you. God Bless you. If the authorities tell you to get out, get the heck out of there.
  13. "Hey mister you want that cut in 4 or 8 pieces?" "Better make it 4, I'm not hungry enough to eat 8"
  14. Parallel. You can hook your amp output to either of the inputs and then daisy chain the other connector to another speaker. You will increase the load(decrease the impedance) that your amp is working into.
  15. I respect authority mainly. Being in "trouble" just ain't worth it. After all this is a temporary situation we're all in here. But when the "authority" are doing things that are unethical, immoral and possibly illegal(in my humble estimation) I question their authority.
