  1. With no disrespect for Mark and Craig, I would much rather work on the Marantz. If the magic smoke comes out of one of Mark's pieces, it may mean a pcb repair - usually far more ugly and harder to do than wire and sockets... Mark's and Craigs gear demands respect because it is really, really good, so I hope they take this the right way. [] Bruce
  2. I certainly won't argue with someone who wants to use the K-77 over the CT-125, but I don't see why you would do that. The reponse of the CT-125 is far superior to the K-77, and sounds a LOT smoother. Which is probably why some don't like them. You don't really think they are adding to the high end. I couldn't go back... meaning there is a pair of K-77s available for sale. No idea of the price, but I don't need them at all. I have two pair of the APT-50 drivers, one pair on the CT-125s and another with some APT-150s (excellent btw). Bruce
  3. I had thought of making an L shaped box, that would make the LS deeper, but not add 10 inches to the height. I had planned on a slot port. The 10 inches is abotu what you would have if your enclosed the back and opened up the doghouse. No increase in height over the stock LS.
  4. One of my ideas is to do the bass mod with a slot port. Well, you still make the whole cabinet bigger that way. Or... building from scratch... have the top section enclosed with the top of the doghouse open into it, and build a slot port in the point of the doghouse (facing the front). I have the size or the slot around here somewhere...
  5. Keep the initials the same... The colors are just to show some contrast.
  6. Nope, they're still being made. Now owned by Peavey, of Meridian, Mississippi. Same cool logo
  7. yer makin' my brain hurt, but I can see I didn't raise no fool...[:|]
  8. It would have to be a custom adapter. It isn't just the difference between a screw on and bolt on drivers. Bruce
  9. I put a pair of Bob's tweeters in my LaScalas, replacing the K77s. It only took about ten minutes, and for me it was a very noticeable improvement. Bob's will handle more power and extend higher. Absolutely no changes are required on the crossover. If you are able to make an even swap, you are really getting the best end of the deal. Bruce
  10. Just about the same as my LS, although mine are a little newer. I usuallyuse tubes (2A3 Moondogs at 3.5 watts each), but currently have them powered with a 75wpc SS amp. Aaaahhhhh... they still sound wonderful. I use SS on my Heresy IIs. I think what you don't necessarily need is extremely high power. Bruce
  11. One of the ways to do this mod is to enclose the back of the top section and open the doghouse into the top. Place the ports on the back piece, obviously exiting toward the rear. This will keep the same height for your LS, but provide the improved bass.Bruce
  12. I've been using the EH 2A3 Golds in my Moondogs, and have been quite happy with them, although I see they are running around $130 a pair. I'm currently running my LS on SS. A little sterile sounding, but tons of detail. Tight bass. I think I like the Moondogs a lot more... they are really special. Bruce
  13. Duh... Just make it whatever Bruce Edgar had suggested, which I believe is 1 x 2. As long as it fits on the top of the LS, that's fine.
  14. You have drivers there... can you measure them to get an optimal size? I'm thinking 3.25" would actually work ok. That is about halfway across the surrounds. If you can make the tops and bottoms, I'll do the rest. We'll talk on the weekend... Thanks ps They look pretty cool!
  15. So...can you draw up a template for the correct size throat and it to me? Since I have another pair of those drivers...
  16. Just the reverse of going down the tubes, eh?I want to get another pair of GZ37 for my Moondogs, but haven't found what I like yet. Bruce
  17. Plus... you would have to caulk aroung the horn. Even if the Cornwall is ported, you want everything sealed the same as they normally would we sealed.
  18. I have been listening to Elaine Page's version of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina". What a voice, and I really think she isn't using any processing. A great set of pipes!
  19. It's hard to break some of the laws of physics. The Tangent 400 IS a larger Heresy II. Even the crossover is labeled as HII The original Tangent 400 cabinet isn't very solid, but building your own from some nice ply woud go a LONG way toward solving that.Bruce
  20. Our cabinet maker/carpenter at the school where I work uses a beeswax finish on some of his projects. I'll ask him on Monday. It may be Skidmore's, but I don't remember for sure off the top of my head...[*-)]Bruce
  21. I heard parts of some stereo cuts on an npr story today (or yesterday). The audio was pretty stunning. Really, really nice mixes.
  22. I had to re-read the whole thread... well, not too far down. I was remembering Peter said the amp has gain controls... so never mind. [:#]
  23. I've got the DIYTube board for my ST70, but haven't had the time to get it finished (it has a Curcio board in it at the moment). Truth be told, I could live with my Moondog 2A3 amps with no regrets. Bruce
