  1. The plugin doesn't work in Office 2003. The nice thing about PDF Creator is that you can make a pdf from ANY application that can print. BTW, Word 2007 uses XML as its default file format, complying with the Office Open format. If you use Office 2003 you need to get a patch/plugin to allow file reads and writes to the 2007 format. Bruce
  2. J.D., If you have put all the info with pics into a document of some kind, like MS Word, WordPerfect, Open Office, you could turn it into a pdf and post that. Then everyone can save it to their own computer for reference. If you do it as posts, it can be tedious as the regular forum software only allows one pic/attachment per post. If you have the pics hosted on a photo site, it is easier as you can just provide links for them to show up, allowing multiples to be in one post. The pdf is easier. If you have Open Office, you can save as a pdf straight from the application. If you use MSWord or other word processing program, you need something to generate the pdf. I have the full version of Acrobat, but more often use PDF Creator, freeware software that installs as a printer driver. You then simply print to it, it asks for a file name and where to save and it is done. Get the one from SourceForge, as it is definitley free. You can download it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ Very cool, by the way, to put the Trachorn in an LS. I just don't want to do that to my LS. Bruce
  3. The orginal Heresy used the same mid driver and tweeter as the KHorn and the LaScala. This may have been done partly for economy, so that different parts weren't stocked (my opinion) This means a very powerful mid compared to the the 12 inch woofer, and I personally find the original a little overwhelming in the midrange. It does mean that it will work well with the two big guys when used as a center. The HII, came out in the early to mid '80s, and to my ear, sounds a lot more banced tonally, from top to bottom. The HIII is more recent, of course, and has been reworked. The bass is better, and seems to be an all round improvement. They aren't as common on the used market yet. I would love a pair of them, myself. The first two are all personal preference, and you always want to believe that the newest is always the best. I think the HIIIs are the better of the three versions, but you may find you can only afford some used originals or HIIs. Bruce Just to add, that they are all good![]
  4. That kind of a score is not totally unheard of. Someone on here got a pair for the price of hauling them away (he paid some college kids to help him move them, IIRC). Bruce
  5. North Georgia is close... []
  6. I've used Goldwave quite a bit, and find it easy to work with and quite powerful. If you don't want to pull the plug on Wavelab or Sound Forge, it is pretty hard to beat. I would also take a look at some of the Magix software. Depending on what you are wanting to do, they have a lot of different packages available. Most of the Magix stuff is spun off from their professional line of software (Samplitude and Sequoia, which costs from 500 to almost 3000 Euros).
  7. Looks a lot like the horns in the new KPT-12-VB cabinet. It utilizes their new Virtual Boundary Array Technology horn.
  8. My daughter was here this afternoon, and tipped me off to give a listen to Esperanza Spalding, bassist/vocalist. Outstanding! We plugged in the laptop in the living room and listened to a bunch of her youtube videos. Her abilities even came through watching and listening through that medium. Bruce
  9. You can read about 'More cowbell' here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_cowbell You may also notice the BS Button uses that on his avatar, as well as the pic of Christopher Walken playing a record producer. A really well known SNL sketch. Having it on a poster with our current pres. is pretty funny.
  10. Regardless of the tube pre giving you the tonal character, you often find the tube pre out is looking for a higher input impedance than most SS amps provide (especially the pro models). I used a SS pre with my Dynaco for a number of years, and it always worked out great. Plus, the tube amp always worked, when several SS amps did not. Since I am currently all tube, I guess it doesn't matter much. [*-)] Bruce
  11. They do now, but a lot of it was hand work. Maybe Roy would see this and tell us when they started using CNC in Hope. I only know that people have mentioned that they had to hand fit the braces when they added them later. Here's a built from scratch LS clone with the ports. This one, obviously, is on its side, with an Oris horn on top. Bruce
  12. Klipsch actually did the side bracing on some of the pro models (I've got a pic or two showing them), however, they didn't have CNC and these were all more hand assembled, so you had to custom fit the braces. This wouldn't be very cost effective from a manufacturing standpoint. The LSII uses 1 inch sidewalls to stop the resonance.
  13. Bill, this was posted a couple of years ago. This was the data by one of the guys (Thermio if I am correct). It looks like about a 7db increase at around 31Hz. That would be a huge difference. Dennis also had a slight eq mod to do on the input of your power amp. but I don't believe this has that mod done, just the volume and porting change: HZ 200 160 125 100 80 63 50 40 31.5 25 20 --- --- --- --- -- -- -- -- ---- -- -- dB 77 80 79 73 72 78 68 60 61 52 51 Stock w/sides braced 76 78 78 73 69 75 65 60 66 56 52 4.5 cuft, no ports 76 78 77 75 74 80 70 60 68 54 54 2 ports 4"dia 10" 76 79 78 76 75 80 71 60 68 54 53 Ports cut to 7" As you can see the numbers don't change much but you were right: the sound does. Much faster and distinct. I am guessing this is a good stopping point with this driver (K33E). It is the best sound of the expansion/port series to my ears but I have only listened a little bit. ------------------------------------------------ As you can see, tuning ports at 7" boosts the 100 to 50Hz range where most of the slam and punch of percieved bass resides, yet the lower bass still has significant gain at 31Hz. A win-win solution.

  15. I actually heard that on NPR one day this week. Maybe on Morning Edition.
  16. So you are thinking the measurement isn't correct? Just what did you hear?
  17. My retirement investment is with AIG/Valic...[*-)] I had to choose between one of two places for our school's employee retirement plan. There's not much in it anyway, but so far I haven't lost anything.
  18. I'm so glad to read this story, and hear a good outcome. My wife and I homeschooled all three of our children, so they didn't get into the kind of classroom situation where many of these things start. My wife had a niece whose son was in a private school, and not doing very well, the teachers saying he was disruptive, and couldn't do the work/assignments given to him. He was prescribed Ritalin, and went to school stoned every day. His schoolwork suffered even more, and he wasn't growing. His body weight was low and it was just awful. When it came time to enroll for the next year, they were told they would not accept him, and they couldn't find any school where he could get in. He could have gotten into the public school, but he would have been devoured. Sooooo....my wife talked to the niece and they arranged for my wife to have him every day during the week. The husband, a county deputy, worked an early shift, so he would get delivered back home in the early afternoon, where he would take over working with the son on the schoolwork. I should backtrack to where they stopped administering the Ritalin in the summer when he went off to summer camp (he did fine). But part way into the Fall, my wife noticed that he wasn't able to read well at all, his eyes couldn't follow the words on the page. She talked to the parents and told them she thought there was something wrong with his eyes. She did some research and found an eye doc who would do some tests on him. Ended up he had eye coordination problems, that could be helped by doing excercises. (Luci Johnson, the younger daughter of LBJ had the same problem) Well... the short story of it is that it worked, and he has gone on to do okay in public school, is not on Ritalin and has regained his body weight. The school didn't care, and the parents were really just about too busy to see what was happening. After all, you want to be able to trust the pediatrician you went to when you were a child, right? The fact of the matter is that the Ritalin was turning him into a zombie so he would just fit into the classroom. How often are these stories repeated across the country, often without a successful outcome?
  19. The Formby's dissolves the lacquer and lets it penetrate the wood and even out the color. It won't have the shiny lacquer look, but the finish will look nice. Another product was mentioned, but I can't remember the name, either. That doesn't get out stains, though. Bruce
  20. Marvel

    for Fini

I've got two of his LPs... they sure are funny.
  21. Looks like what my spray booth would be like...[]
  22. CB is right, the anodization process is only on the surface of the aluminum. If you sand it off, any handling will leave your hands and clothes with gray marks. Just think of those colorful insulated aluminum mugs you can get at Starbuck's. Bruce
  23. When did you get Chorus IIs? I think they walk all over a Cornwall. The bass seems a lot cleaner to me, where the Corns seems a bit muddy.
  24. Seriously, Richard... are those new Quad IIs or some older ones? I would love to hear a pair of them sometime. Bruce
