  1. They also have a wattage rating, so you would need to make sure one could handle the load you would want to connect to it.I have a big, heavy duty one that was originally used in a stage lighting system. I haven't used it for a while, but it's here when I need it. Bruce
  2. But the Merlin won't work well with it. You will need a box/buffer, of some kind to go between the Merlin and the Crown. The input impedance on most SS power amps is too low for the high output impedance of the Merlin (or most tube line stages). I believe Mark says the Merlin needs to see at least 20K to mate well. You only get 10k unbalanced on the Crowns. Tube power amps have a much higher input impedance. You will lose a lot of bass (happened with me feeding into an Alesis SS amp. Bruce
  3. My own son quite rightly calls this a total nonsequitur. There is absolutely no evidence to indicate that this boy will hunt humans. A real red herring in this thread if ever there was one. Statistically, you would probably find him to grow up and be very responsible. He also probably knows how to handle firearms better than most on this forum. That's a good thing. If he has been hunting since age five, his father (and/or others) have given him a lot of training on how to handle firearms. If it had been an adult on this hunt carrying a handgun, there would still have been one or two others with rifles there to back him up. Bruce
  4. If you were buying a new or used Blueberry, if Mark's packing materials were used, it would arrive just fine. SPeakers, being the size they are, is another matter entirely. Bruce
  5. plants take in CO2 from the air and convert it back to oxygen to complete the system. I understand the complete cycle very well, Mark. I am just curious why you would tell an environmentalist not to plant a tree... We certainly need clean oceans, but trees help a lot too. Bruce
  6. Uh, you don't pant a tree to get oxygen, you plant a tree to help consume the CO2. It is a total package though, as everything works in concert. Funny thing... a friend of mine just traded in his V8 extended cab, full size pickup. He was getting 27 mpg. He hasn't driven the new one long enough to measure yet. Bruce
  7. I am VERY interested in the Chorus IIs, and live just south of Chattanooga. I could easily pick up the speakers. What kind of finish is on the cabinets, condition, etc.? Please consider me having first dibs on them, and send and email or PM. Bruce
  8. I have a working 701, and really don't know why I keep it. It sure isn't pristine, but it does work. Bruce
  9. I with you Tom, completely. After having lost two of our own cats, your post brought back a lot of memories. I'll be lifting you up. Bruce
  10. ................."I personally think we should outlaw tobacco and tell them they can grow an oil producing product. Grow something useful instead of totally destructive".............. Brucestir, I'm sure that BEC would support that notion, and vote for it. (if that privilege is still available to him)[] Farmers? By all means. Let's tell them (thru legislation) what they can and can't do, grow or not grow on their own property. Better yet, let's outlaw everything that is bad for us. First step. Bad, must be defined. We are diverse, so let's choose a person, political party, special intrest coalition, sex, or ethnic group to dictate the definition of Bad. As a so-called "free" country, who's definition shall we accept? Jesus? No. The US, has turned away from that superstitious bunk. Could it be JW Bush, Al Sharpton, Hillery Clinton, the NRA, the reverend J. Jackson, (what church has he pastered, or does he paster now?) Rush Limbaugh, the KKK, or Budda. Be careful, my friend. If the definers decide that it is not appropriate for you to play acoustic guitar for your children......You could become a criminal! Marvel, That was said with all due respect. No dis intended to a fellow JM owner, so, back to the reason that we come to this place,........How is that BBX treating you? I listened to that very preamp in November, and it was waaay sweet, IMHO! As a fellow Merlin owner/lover, how do the two compare with a CD source? As advertised, Merlin is 15% less than Peach. With a CD have you, what are your thoughts (%) as to Merlin and the BBX?????? Best Regards, Terry Terry, The BBX is great, and I love the wood case it is in. Haven't really spent enough time with it to give much of an answer about the audio qualities. I have an ultra cheap cartridge on my TT, so I can't judge the phono section much either, at least not yet. I just felt like I couldn't pass up the purchase, and could end up needing all the extra inputs. I do get an awful ping when changing from aux to phono, and it sounds like a microphonic tube. Pings when you switch to any input, and I am figuring it is a tube and not a design flaw of any kind. The Merlin quality is enough testimony to good design. Bruce
  11. I noticed on my last trip up through Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana, that diesel is slightly cheaper than gas. At least at the stations where I stopped. DWhen Diesel invented his engine, his idea was to burn vegetable oils, which never caught on at the time. The parents of my son's fiancee drive a diesel Suburban. They run 100 percent vegetable oil, which they get from a few restaurants. The dad carries all the oil home and filters it. Pretty cool. They drove down from Montreal to North Georgia last week, towing a turbo diesel Jetta for their daughter. It will soon be on 100 percent veggie. Pretty unbelievable really. Not that much work involved once you get a system down. I personally think we should outlaw tobacco and tell them they can grow an oil producing product. Grow something useful instead of totally destructive. Bruce
  12. I would say Jubs for, because of the quality, and I could still fit them into my living room. Cornwall IIIs next, because they also sound great and would still fit into the living room, and be less obtrusive than the LaScalas. Never have even thought about the Forte lineup. What a decision- they are all beautiful speakers. Bruce
  13. Last night I was visiting with my daughter and her bf. We went for a walk up along Missionary Ridge here in Chattanooga. It has lots of huge, pricey home, with a view to the East that goes for miles and the same to the West. Walking along, we passed by this huge house with a fancy yard, and at the location of the meter box for the water, there was a hose running out from under the lid, heading back into the yard. We didn't look inside, but thought they may have tapped off between the shutoff and the meter and were running water to fill the swimming pool. We should have gone back to check it. We also have someone come by here every month, where I live. Wish they had the RF things hooked up here, but they don't. Bruce
  14. Would love a pair of the 077s. Nice highs and dispersion, and they just look so friggin cool. Bruce
  15. We installed a couple pairs of the CA-8T systems in classrooms at thecollege where I work. The sound is really, really good. Not even driving them with that large an amp. When I started there, the one classroom had some TOA speakers. Then the school moved to some Bose, which worked, but I knew we could do way better. The next time we added multimedia to a classroom, I talked them into the Klipsch. Everyone has been impressed. You won't need the 70 volt transformers in them, but you can get the manuals from the Klipsch site to explain the wiring. Bruce
  16. Some certainly still prefer the K77. I found that putting the CT-125s in my LS helped the top end a lot, to blend better with the mid, and I still brought the mids down some more to balance it all out. If you try them, and decide you don't like them, they will be pretty easy to resell. Bruce
  17. Pretty good surrounds on those JBL woofers. They almost never wear out. Someone on the Altec Lansing Heritage site might be interested in them if you want to pass them on. My younger son is using a pair of L46 at school. Awsesome as his PC speaks, mated with an H/K 430. Bruce
  18. If you are in an apartment complex or even a duplex, I would look to see if a neighber is piggybacked on to one of your circuits. Wouldn't be the first time that has happened. Anyone move out recently? I can't imagine the sub causing that big an issue if not actually in use. I admit it is not s Class D amp. Is is being triggered to saty ON all the time? My sub was doing that for a while until I fiddled with the input some. Bruce
  19. Crown still makes them, three models for music. They have them on the website: http://www.crownaudio.com/mic_web/pzm.htm
  20. Terry, Took forever to get those cuts from him through my mail system. Still don't think I got all of them, and yes, they ARE smokin'! I would have loved to have been there too. Has Duke sent you any of his recordings? What are talking about with the Merlin? I've pretty much left it the way it came, but am open to some tube rolling. Pickin' up JC's BBX in another week, which will do me in financially, but I couldn't stand to pass it up. Bruce
  21. It was not taped, but filmed in 35mm. Cost a small fortune to do that. Woodstock was shot in 16mm. The band has been one of my favorites, ever since Music From Big Pink came out. And the Dukester send me some music of a friend of his, Jim Weider, who played in The Band in later years. Incredible player! I was all smiles. Bruce
  22. I gotta be there if Dean is coming. I emailed Amy that I will do my best. Have to clear a couple of things, but it is looking ok so far. I'll bring the Moondogs, too. That way we can really have a QUIET room.[] Bruce
  23. I would still opt for the Weldbond. It stays very flexible, is easy to apply and may run you $5. If you don't like the way they sound after that, buy a surround kit.
  24. They are the original Heresies, and not the Heresy IIs. Crossovers may need refurbing for best performance. If you can get the serial numbers from him, we can tell you the year they were made. If the labels are gone off the back, the SNs are stamped into the wood on the back edge of the top of the cabinets. Did you win these? Bruce
  25. Dave is correct, most ribbons are fairly low output. The Royers are rather pricey, and the Oktava might just do the trick. Don't diss the recorder too much. Friends of mine have done some albums on some low rent digital 8 tracks, and 99 % of the folks here probably wouldn't be able to tell. btw, an outboard pre might be a good idea anyway. The one built in won't be worth a flip. Bruce
