  1. I am going to disagree here. If you are careful, you can make some very good cuts with a circular saw. But you DO have to take your time and be careful. Marvel
  2. What refurbishing will he do on the ST-70? If he changes the front end it sure isn't an ST-70 anymore. Mine now has three 6922s working it. Sweet sound. The 7199s were okay too, but I like my new configuration. This is so subjective. Marvel
  3. I think the newer mid driver for the Heresy (HII) is not designed to have as low a freq. output. The K55 should coast on the Heresy with a 700Hz crossover. That could also contribute to the differences you heard between the two models. Marvel
  4. The painter at the college where I work has used an interesting technique. When he uses poly, by the time he does his third coat he uses the roller as a squeegee. Holds the roller and slides it over the surface. He gets an incredibly smooth surface finish. I suppose you could do this with any oil based paint. Marvel
  5. There is some Springsteen music I like, but my son and I have both listened to some Sprinsteen vinyl and find it to be thin sounding. All the music is there, but it just isn't "rich" sounding. Glad it works for you. Marvel

  7. For a while, at least, cobalt was too expensive. Aluminum and nickel prices may noy have changed as much. Alnico is hard to machine, but the ceramics are so easy either. Always the cult factor...
  8. I have some unshielded speakers (not my HIIs) that sit within 8 inches of my monitors at my computer desk. Any closer and they cause problems. Just try moving one to the distance you want and see if it causes a deflection of any kind. Start out a little farther away and slowly move it in closer. Marvel
  9. I have posted this before, but check out this guitar builders site, Luthier's Mercantile International. The top right of the home page has a water based finish that can be simply stunning. The product is KTM-9 and you can brush or spray. You can use water or alchohol based dyes to get the color you want. It is made by Grafted Coatings, Inc, but for purchases under one gallon you can only get it from LMI. LMI site
  10. But a well written site can be found with a Google search. I do my church's website (and others), and I know we don't pay Google. The ads on the right side after you do a search are a whole other matter. Marvel
  11. I actually can't remember the last time I've had visitors...
  12. Too funny already! And I was just getting ready to put on some Moody Blues...
  13. Damon, Look at the slot across the bottom of these Yamaha cabinets. That whole slot is the port, and has a shelf going back just like the Cornwall does. These just have the entire width open. btw, I got a set of these for free. They sound pretty nice, but don't go very low. Marvel
  14. Bob, From looking at the pics on page 3, I believe that there are two screws on each side at the top of the sides, holding the sides to the top section of the Khorn. The screws go into blocks he glued and screwed on. The rod just goes through the back to pull the sides together against the horn. Marvel
  15. You sound like an architect when you start talking about 'two holers' and 'three holers'. Marvel
  16. The Band was surely one of the greats. Loose and tight at the same time. From Big Pink onward. Even the Basement tapes with Dylan, as bad as the audio is, has great moments.

  18. http://www.magnetsales.com/Alnico/Al1.htm#general Alnico costs more than ceramic. They are both hard materials to work (grind, polish, etc.)
  19. Tony, I keep far too much stuff. I found that it is a fine balance between keeping it and deleting it. One of my co-workers had it worked out great. He threw out things we needed and I kept things we didn't. Rick, Thanks for the pdf. It makes sense that you don't want the wave bouncing straight back. That is what D-Man was talking about with the splitter too. Marvel
  20. Yes! I finally remembered something right.
  21. Do you mean Wendell? EDIT: Oops, you are right. JT.
  22. Shawn, I believe Tony Reed has reflectors in the corners of his. I know some people on here have done it. Perhaps he will chime in. (although I have given him credit before and he has said it wasn't him ) Maybe I should take more notes, before I forget everything. Marvel found the pic. He doesn't have the dimensions, but the red is the reflectors and the blue is a shelf brace to cut down on side wall resonances. I think if you make the reflectors too big, you will constrict the channel width.
  23. Actually, her claim to fame was when she went from being a guy to a girl. A peculiar world isn't it? Marvel

You aren't listening to the identical material delivered between to different formats... you are hearing different material delivered between two different formats.
