  1. A link would be helpful. A search for Klipsch brings up umpetty-eleben posibilities but a search for Klipschorn does not bring up the item you refer to. In any event in the absence of the full URL posting the item number works almost as well.
  2. The amplifier(s) is(are) an add-on. Most probably they were fed a signal from an electronic organ ( acting as a preamplifier and signal source ) which was then further amplified by the power amp(s ) buit into the Lascalas. Upside #1 is that those add-on power amps are likely easily bypassed. Upside #2 is that they can be driven without a power amp ( The power amplifier is already there ) and they would therefore be a hello of a deal for anyone considering an all-Heritage Home Theatre setup. Upside #3 Is that if you do not like or want the add-on amps you could likely Ebay them and recoup part of your purchase cost.
  3. I have come to the conclusion that no dietary regimen, drinking habit,( alcoholic or otherwise ),genetic history, ethnic origin, sexual preference, religious background or place or residence is a particularly good defence against the multitude of ailments that we humans are subject to. Therefore,I long ago decided to quit obssessing about those issues and simply eat, drink, screw etc. in a reasonable manner and enjoy myself. As near as I can figure it I will live to 110 or not. My guess is that a 15 year old who dedicated him/herself to avoiding all the pitfalls available would die a frustrated virgin before age 20 from malnutrition and/or sheer boredom.
  4. Good call Gil! Damn! If I ever get my *** in a legal sling I will have to import you! If the analytical skills you display regarding audio matters are any indication you would be a damned good man to have in my corner!
  5. "Could they be reversed in comparison with the mid squawker and woofer?" Yes.This is a common practice among speaker manufacturers. It is also not uncommon to wire the midrange out of phase with the bass speaker. If your speakers sound good leave well enough alone. This is not an accidental miswiring but is a deliberate design decision. It has the effect of smoothing the midrange to tweeter transition. The tweeters will be wired in-phase with each other but not necessarily in phase with the woofer. The only phasing issue you really need concern yourself with is to ensure that the right and left speakers are in phase with each other.
  6. I am inclined to think that as pointed out above that the laws of physics ( both mechanical and electrical )have been and continue to be seriously considered by competent designers of horn loudspeakers. What has been overlooked so far in this discussion is that in addition to PWK's Electrical Engineering background he was also an acknowledged expert in the field of ballistics having earned patents in that field. I submit that anyone versed in the field of ballistics would have a keen awareness of the effects of air flow whether at the velocities generated by Howitzers or at the exit flare of a horn loaded loudspeaker. I am not BTW arguing that Mechanical Engineers have nothing to contribute in this field and I would not be the least suprised to learn that some ME's are employed in the area of speaker design. I am aware that ME's are involved in structural design and acoustics and suspect that some of those skill sets are transferable across the usual boundaries of the various Engineering professions.
  7. I read the book. Apparently Miss Belle never actually existed. In any event I have no doubt that Mr. Paul and Miss Valerie were soulmates.
  8. Congratulations Kudret!! Those look to be in lovely condition. I had one Hello of a time getting my Khorns and yours are in a damned sight better shape than mine were (and are) even after a lot of TLC,( My ill-luck became something of a legend around here before I finally nailed a pair to call my own! ) I would TELL you to enjoy them but my experience tells me that after you listen to them I would be preaching to the choir.
  9. Seti Re:"A while back there was a gathering at someones house where everyone was talking about this cheap lp cleaning system where you put the lp in and literally spun ? hand cranked it clean ? Anyone have a clue as to what i'm thinking of ?" That may well have been the Spin Clean Record Washer. It is available from:http://www.garage-a-records.com The Disk Doctor is another possibility.
  10. Welcome back Bud. I missed ya!

  12. Those are handles. The side panels on lascalas are solid. One nice looking pair of lascalas indeed.
  13. FWIW I had KLF30s before buying my Khorns. The KLFs were purchased in preference to the RF7s. That said all of these speakers are breathtakingly good sounding units when driven by good amplification reproducing good source material. You will never go wrong with any of them. I chose the KLFs over the RFs because they sounded more dynamic overall in their presentation. In addition the KLFs had more cojones in the bottom end than the RFs. OTOH I have to say that the RFs sounded a little smoother overall so the choice was not entirely intuitive and RF7s definitely can rock your world when powerful bass is demanded. Why the Khorns then? No easy way to define it but to me the khorns sound closer to what one might expect to hear at a live performance than any other speaker I have ever heard. They sound like being seated at midrow about 10 rows back from the stage.
  14. Too damned big for most homes but if I had the $$ and listening room real estate they would have a new home in a "New York Minute".Admittedly - They really are not very pretty to look at.
  15. I have an acquaintance who has a pair of Cornwalls he is considering selling. I have no pics and as far as I can recall ( having only seen them a few years ago )they are finished in a dark veneer.I have never heard them. I suggested Ebaying them to him.I was thinking however that if anyone in Saskatchewan, Alberta or BC might be interested I would be willing to check them out and put the potential seller and buyer in touch. My only interest in this is to possibly pair up a good guy with a pair of rarely used Cornwalls and a buyer who doesn't wish to hassle with long distance shipping. Potential US buyers are welcome to inquire but bear in mind that crossborder shipping tends to be expensive and customs can be a major PITA.
  16. If anyone tosses a Khorn I will be there to catch it!!
  17. Great reading but from what I gathered from the article and plans a factory built Khorn was the better buy by far.Building a Patrician from scrach was obviously not for the inexperienced or faint of heart enthusiast. The Chicago Main Library looks to be a treasure trove of information about early audio. Keep 'em coming mi amigo! I look forward to your contributions every week.
  18. First the bad news! Your turntable and cartridge are the primary source of your dissatisfaction. That inexpensive preamp( while pretty basic ) is likey adequate for the purposes of someone just getting into vinyl. The Gemini turntable and its tonearm and cartridge are intended for DJ work and designed more for durability than fidelity. I think you would do well to Ebay the Gemini and find a TT that is purpose designed for home audio use. Now the good news! Your Gemini would likely Ebay for enough to pay for any number of turntables that are more suitable for home use.
  19. PICTURES PLEASE !! ESPECIALLY BEFORE AND AFTERS IF POSSIBLE !! YES I KNOW I AM SHOUTING!!
  20. Hi I am bi-amped and use Klipshorns While it is undeniably true that I cannot totally experience the sound that those behemouths are capable of reproducing I can still hear the difference between my beloved Khorns and lesser speakers. It is frustrating to know that others can hear more than I can from my Khorns but that said when I listen to my Khorns I experience something close to Nirvana. Remember that the sounds we hear are very complex.Every note we hear is a combination of the fundamental combined with its overtones and undertones As for the cutoff on high frequency with hearing aids the upper limit is typically at about 8 Khz and not 6 Khz. I cannot comment on the lower frequency limit beyond the fact that when my Khorns cause the jaws of acquaintances to drop in reaction to a thundering bass passage I find myself doing the same.Bear in mind also that there is not really much meaningful musical content above about 3 Khz and in any event the subharmonics of high frequency sounds can be ( and often are ) well within the range that a hearing aid user can hear. I do know that I can still easily distinguish between poor speakers and good speakers ( regardless of make ). Enjoy your improved hearing and your speakers. At worst the hearing aids will enhance your listening pleasure even if you regret that you cannot hear everything as you would like.
  21. No. That amp's rating is simply a ( probably exaggerated ) statement of its maximum power output into a 6 ohm load.If the impedance of the speakers drops below 6 ohms ( a relatively rare event ) then the amp will be called upon to deliver a little more power...Assuming of course that it has the capability of doing so. If the amp does not have the ability to provide the extra power then you will get greater distortion. On the other hand if the speakers present a higher impedance then the power output of the amp will be reduced ( a very common occurence ). The impedance ( the AC equivalent of resistance ) varies with frequency and is not by any means a constant value. Klipschorns for example which are rated as 8 ohm speakers can range anywhere from about 5 ohms impedance to 60 ohms depending on the frequency of the input signal.
  22. It woud be helpful to know which "Floor speakers" etc. the ad refers to. Well worth checking into nonetheless!!
  23. I don't recommend that unit as lovely as it looks. Do a search on Google and you will find many positive reviews but also many negative reviews. That model is prone to serious resonance problems due to the way the LP is suspended during play.
